Wasn’t expecting to watch morpho talk about a vampire movie and also MAID in my country today so my feelings weren’t ready but it was really good so I ain’t even mad
A lot of people tend to dismiss the suffering of the mentally ill when it comes to this discussion so thank you for actually giving it a fair assessment. I don’t think it’s an issue that really has a clear answer, and I say that as someone well acquainted with mental health issues and mental disability. Thank you for not just immediately pulling out ‘the sanctity of life’ or the ‘it gets better’ cards!!
I love your content! And I love how you dive into the nuances of topics without hesitation In my opinion the reason people were put off about the whole situation is because Canada’s mental health care is tragically terrible. My husband he’s schizophrenia and we recently had to go to the hospital to get his medication administered after a big move, and without listening to either of us they locked him in an interrogation room threatening to admit him without cause. What people felt by this act being suggested is that rather than increase the quality of mental health care they decided it would be easier to kill us. I know that’s not the full intention but it’s very easy to feel that way, especially when your loved one suffer from mental illness but you’ve witnessed first hand that all they need is better care from the people that are supposed to help and understand them
that is fucking horrifying i'm so sorry you and your husband had to go through that..when did canada go to shit i grew up hearing it was the better america and now all i hear is about how horrible it is what happened 😭
I honestly think this movie would have been better as a dark comedy instead of playing it as a serious metaphor for assisted dying. Like the pieces are there! Just look at this title, it sounds like prime material for a dark horror Comedy.
The problem when you pass such laws is that most likely than not, government will end up using that as a solution rather than “wasting” money on trying to improve the lives of people that actually CAN get treatment and get better. Rather than finding solutions to for exemple, people that can’t afford treatment, they’ll simply give them the option of “MAID” and even tho it’ll seem like an informed decision, it wasn’t bcz they could’ve helped save that person and didn’t (there are already homeless people applying to get MAID not because they suffer from an illness that can’t be cured, but poverty, something we can as humans help each other out to get rid off, but don’t). It’s a slippery slope that won’t go well especially in a primarily capitalist world, slowly we will push more and more people towards it when we could cure them, and less studies will be financed bcz that option is more economical. I think we will end up with the same dilemma of death penalty, where in and of itself, it’s not morally wrong to give it out bcz some people commit crimes that genuinely can’t be reformed like war criminals, but at the same time under flawed justice systems, you always end up with cases of innocent people technically murdered by the state, and I feel like just like we ended up scrapping death penalty in most places due to cases of executing innocent people, and I like to think most people would agree one person wanting to live having been killed while innocent is already too much, we will sadly kill lots of people before waking up to the huge problems it creates and it sadly already started when I remember a mentally ill person being advised to go with MAID and him doing it even tho he wasn’t mentally capable of fully grasping it and without informing his family that was already taking care of him and didn’t have financial issues, they simply got a notice after he passed and I found that so dystopian. This isn’t a simple 4 weeks embryo that barely exists, but whole human beings that will end up pushed thru that door not bcz of sickness but desperation thinking they have no option when there could be and simply bcz governments refuse to invest in it. And sadly I feel like when governments apply it (and more will), it’ll be way harder to overthrow the decision if we end up with multiplying cases of basically assisted murder because, it’s a bonus economically, and which government would let this option go…
i don't disagree with you. i approached the topic from a more emotional and philosophical place but the reality would be close to what you said but i still think it is an option that could successfully work in a country that isn't as corrupt as the us. the story of that man is quite terrifying though. that's just insane. i can't even imagine how i would react if i were his family
0:59 depends on the “type” of vampire like in world of darkness the older the blood of the vampire that bites you is the more powerful you are. The oldest being the original vampire and every generation of vampire after that is younger. So is not like Alfa or omega but you can say yeah I’m a 5 generation vampire it means that the Og is 4 generations above you and you are stronger than let’s say a 12 generation vampire ☝️🤓
@ I played once on a store a premade game just for it. And it was okey maybe not my pice of cake but I love the lore of world of darkness and the whole idea. Of it. They even made a book about the holocaust on the setting of the ghosts
You managed to sum up my feelings on MAID and mental illness perfectly. Being mentally ill myself and having lost my brother to his own mental suffering, I hope I have a pretty well-rounded opinion on the matter. As much as I wish my brother were still here, and I believe things could have gotten better had he given us the chance to help, I still respect his decision. I can never know the full extent of his suffering.
Holy shit you've actually covered this movie lol This was the first film I've ever seen at a film festival all the way back in March on a Thursday evening of all nights and I sobbed my eyes out for so long afterwards. This is my second most rewatched movie of the year (like 6 times including two watches at a local theater) and I was just waiting for you to cover it.
I started to watch your videos as something to put in the background when drawing but I do look at the warnings when on screen so I know what im getting into
I’m not sure that allowing MAD for only the elderly with chronic illness necessarily lessens the struggle for those with mental illness. The elderly have gotten a chance to live their life already. And doctors can concretely and objectively prove that they CANNOT get better. But for something like a mental illness, there is a far greater chance of improvement, or at least, quality of life.
i really like the saying “people should be able to choose when to stop suffering.” and “why should our grieve be more important than our loved ones suffering.”
Hey morpho it's me again i am sorry i haven't been able to watch your videos due to my toxic parents I have two book recommendations for you this time can you please read lapvona or tender is in flesh I would love to listen your review on it You are my favorite youtuber ♥️ Please My toxic parents take my tab away from me due to me getting 95% in this exam( they expected 99% 😒) this is common here in India they think these are bad grades today they gave the tab due to me having a science exhibition in school (they only want me to win the trophy 😒) and not because i study hard for 15 hours EVERY SINGLE FUCKING DAY and my parents have no sympathy for me so i will probably be back after few days Thank you so much for reading so till then byee
Who knows death would cease all the suffering morpho, i completely disagree with you. As a mentally ill person myself who has tried to give up on multiple occasions, i think my loved ones telling me to go on to the other side because they arent "selfish" would make me start tweakin and going insane. You said ut yourself that we dont know much about mental illness, so would it be fair to say that people should just be given the right to die when there could be a potential cure for them unlike terminal illnesses which are always a death sentence. Stop propogating the belief that mental issues are a death sentence, everyone would give up at that point lol. The real selfishness lies in our ecosystem, the indifference that we provide to the victim and giving them the right to off themselves at any point they want is only contributing to that indifference
"Mavis and Johnny if they were clinically depressed" 😭😭😭😭
“I wasn’t weird enough in my teens someone inform me please.”
I don’t think I have ever heard something so relatable in my life. Legitimately.
I like the part where John Morpho morphed all over the place

I watched the movie and it kinda is a dark comedy in a way, but the comedy gets pushed to the background in the 3rd act.
Edward holding hands with morpho got me

OKAY MAYBE I WILL!!
Serious talks with your friendly neighbourhood morpho! Dude you should talk about stuff all the time. You got good opinions and a nice voice.
