Spike is usually the most rational one. He's only not when he's the focus of the episode.
When he said: Why does this show hate Applejack so much?" I noticed his usual demeanour changed. He broke character. He's dead serious folks...and right of course. There was a time when fans didn't like her, sure, but the show.. Oh boy.
Actually, this episode is a good demonstration of the idiom "The shoemaker's children have no shoes". The general concept is that it's easy to recognize faults in someone else, but not so easy to recognize the faults in one's self, even if it's the same fault. I mean, this episode sure does exaggerate it. But the point is that even if you recognize a fault in someone else, you may not recognize that you yourself have this fault because, in your mind, it's a system that works. It's basically the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality at its most extreme. Just because a system works, it doesn't mean it's at its most efficient. Especially if that's how you were raised and taught.
No wonder Applejack is willing to go to the spa. The writers kept doing her dirty.
My mom does this; takes her two hours to do the dishes when we have a dishwasher. Also she carries buckets of kitchen sink water to pour it into the toilet instead of fixing the kitchen sink. She says we can't afford to fix the kitchen sink (it gets clogged easily) but she spends hundreds of dollars in plumbing bills several times a year after she accidentally flushes a metal utensil down the toilet.
An episode that just exists
Applejack was and still is my favorite character so this episode hurt to watch....
Why did the show writers butcher all the characters in the last few seasons? Applejack had always been kinda stubborn but never to this embarrassing extent. The writers butchered my poor girl.
The real sin is how Littleshy pronounces "milking" as "melking".
I know the gyroscopic toolbelt thing was a joke, but that could be an interesting bit of worldbuilding for a fanfic.
Rarity: runs her own business since episode one
Rarity becoming a melted marshmallow is one of my favorite things about this episode.
Applejack was probably counting on her highly effective tool pouch equipped with an advanced gyroscopic stabilizer to do the majority of her farming chores.
Personally, I didn't have much of a problem with this episode. Perhaps it appears a bit ridiculous that Applejack didn't notice the obviously pointless things she was doing, but I think that's just what the moral of this episode is trying to get at.
"Applejack being karen by ... and fixing things herself", I am pretty sure that isnt what karens would do
Things I enjoyed in the episode:
Twilight fell victim to the "5 second quiz" trick. Reads step 1, "open the gate", then opens the gate, then reads step 2: "Close the gate" then closes the gate. You would think Twilight would be the kind to read the entire list first then start the tasks.
The sprinkler thing is especially silly, because the way AJ did it is actually better than what Twi did -- assuming that water pressure physics exist in Equestria. But evidently they don't.
If I were Applejack, I would never be able to comment early on Littleshy's videos!
