I'm so excited for this game. I'm new to D&D tabletop in general, so this was really helpful! I learnt from Early Access that I need to take my time and explore more, as when I started watching streams of it there was so much that I'd missed.
Good video explaining things in a easy to understand way, expecially how proficiency affects your character. I hope you can continue with more videos like this for the expected flood of newcomers to DnD. Subscribed just in case you do ;)
I wouldn't use the wording "all ability scores are tied to your proficiency". I'd rather say they add up together if they both apply because one is natural aptitude and the other is usually mixture of things, but most often it's training. In the game, you proficiency will range from 0 (you have no training) to 4 (you're trained AND you're your character is experienced enough to be level 9+). Your natural aptitude will usually range from from +5 to -1. So if you have no training and horrible natural aptitude for a task, your "bonus" to the task will be a negative. Otherwise they add it up together or proficience can compensate for lack of natural aptitude and wise versa. The second paragraph is too lengthy to fit in the video, but the relevant part of the first paragraph is not.
Knights of the Old Republic prepped me for "abilities" more than I'd have thought.
Maaaan Kotor is such a great game!
imma say for someone who has only played rpg and never touched d&d you sir have helped me understand this game a bunch. Thank you
You are welcome friend, ty for the kind words.

I'm glad it helped! I also can't wait to unpack this game and explore!
