For the girl who is worried about her femininity and not being like her friends, I’ve seen a couple of comments about exploring gender and sexuality, so I just wanted to add that it’s also entirely possible to just not be interested in that stuff at 16. I wasn’t. I didn’t have a boyfriend until 21. I didn’t like wearing skirts and dresses in high school. Wasn’t interested in make up. Now I’m in my 20’s and, while I still don’t enjoy skirts or dresses as casual wear, I love getting dressed up, I enjoy doing my makeup just for fun, and I’m basically just more feminine than I was in my teens. Sometimes the answer isn’t gender or sexuality, but simply that we all develop at our own pace. However, I’m not saying that looking into gender or sexuality is a bad idea, just that it’s not the only option to explain a lack of interest in feminine things.
Tbh I personally find it offensive that ppl suggest that if you don’t like “girl things” that you’re not a girl, like there’s so many aspects of being a girl and a woman and it has nothing to do with clothes or relationships lol

for the person saying they weren't feminine enough because of not liking men, gender and sexuality aside, you don't have to be interested in the things your friends are interested in if they're actual friends they wouldn't mind if you don't relate in that aspect. People experience crushes and love earlier and some don't, you don't need to worry about it right now. Just focus on the things that make you happy and not what others are happy about, this also applies to liking the "girly" things like dresses and make-up etc. Also, talking about the female body used to be very uncomfortable to me, even thinking about it, because that topic used to be so taboo where I'm from and was never brought up by family so that could be the case with you too (i can only guess) but now after finally accepting that its normal I don't mind talking about it anymore i dont want to jump into conclusions about your gender and sexuality because that's your choice to make, for now like i mentioned earlier just focus on doing the things that make you happy now. I hope you finally find the peace you need.

For the person with the work crush while in a relationship- maybe not the best of advice, but I once heard if put like this: it’s like a menu. The other person is an item on the menu. You’re on a diet. You can look at that item, and you can think about that item- but you can’t get that item, because you’re on a diet (in a relationship). Since you have not bought the item, you have not done anything wrong. You haven’t eaten outside of the diet. Wanted it, sure. But you didn’t buy it, and that’s what matters. Maybe a little silly, but I found if helpful :)

To the girl not feeling like her friends or feeling un-feminine. When I was younger I was exactly like that, I actually took pride in being a tomboy. I don't know if you've seen those memes before of Other girls: A drawing of a girl wearing makeup, a dress and having her hair done. Me: A girl in sweats with her hair in a bun, eating pizza. I was the type of girl to take that seriously because every single example of a "slutty" or "dumb" girl would be a well groomed, pretty girl in a pink dress with makeup. Society actually teaches us that being feminine is bad but, also at the same time, pushing women to be as feminine as possible. It makes no sense. I was the type of girl to say I hate dresses, to say that makeup is dumb, to say I hate pink, etc. All because of the terrible ways that society portrayed feminine women. Like, the mean girls in movies are always pretty girls who like makeup, nice clothes and pink while the "nice" protagonist girl is someone who never wears makeup and who refuses to dress in anything besides sweatpants, your typical tomboy. Now, at 19, I LOVE dresses, I love fancy clothes, I love makeup and I love doing my hair. My entire room is pink, lmao. And I actually have this one girl in my school to thank. She was always so unapologetically herself, she'd come to school looking like she just walked on the red carpet. I admired her so much. And that's what opened my eyes and made me realize that she's all I've ever wanted to be but forced myself to not be. Yeah, you can explore your sexuality, and more. But honestly, you could just explore your relationship with feminism as well. Maybe you have the same problem that I used to have. Or maybe you're just not as feminine as your friends. THAT'S FINE TOO. Don't think that because you're a woman, you're SUPPOSED to be feminine. That's also bullshit. Anyway, best of luck to you. 🤗

I’ve gone through a similar experience but I’ve always been a tomboy. As a kid I’d rather wear basketball shorts rather than those pink or Orange plaid shorts that everyone was wearing. I always said I hated the color pink and I even once judged a girl who sat next to me just because she wore makeup at school. Once I got a few years into highschool, I befriended many people who were very different from eo and opened my eyes that I can enjoy whatever I want, unapologetically like they could. Now at 19 and out of school, I found that I enjoy doing my makeup, I like to put on jewelry. I may not wear dresses but I did buy my first skirt a couple months ago! People change and grow and that’s completely normal! To anyone reading this, never feel like you have to hide the things that bring you joy, wear what you want!

To the person who feels badly about not being like their girl friends: I can relate so very much to that sense of being different from your female friends, bored by “feminine” interests, and extreme discomfort with female secondary sex characteristics (in my case, it was my hips rather than my breasts). For me it ended up being that I am non-binary transgender. It may be that you are asexual, bi/pansexual, or lesbian like mentioned in the video; or that you are some flavor of trans; or simply that you just don’t conform to the stereotypes culturally associated with your sex (not that anyone totally does). I know that’s a lot to think about, and the confusion and uncertainty can be frightening, but I just want you to know that it is 100% okay to be different, that it is 100% okay to question and explore your identity, that it is 100% okay to be uncertain, that it is 100% okay to try on and change labels, that it is 100% okay to not label yourself at all, and most importantly, that it is 100% okay to be unapologetically you, whatever that ultimately means. On a totally different note, I definitely get strong autistic vibes from spoon boy. Being on the spectrum myself, I totally understand how one can endlessly relate any and every topic back to our special interests and never get bored of talking about them (or realize that other people have lost interest and/or are trying to steer the conversation towards anything else).

I was trying so hard to fit the mold of what girls did and it all made me so uncomfortable and I couldn’t figure out why. Then I tried dressing and acting however I wanted and it just felt right. It wasn’t uncomfortable to exist for the first time in my life.

For the person with the work crush while in a relationship- maybe not the best of advice, but I once heard if put like this: it’s like a menu. The other person is an item on the menu. You’re on a diet. You can look at that item, and you can think about that item- but you can’t get that item, because you’re on a diet (in a relationship). Since you have not bought the item, you have not done anything wrong. You haven’t eaten outside of the diet. Wanted it, sure. But you didn’t buy it, and that’s what matters. Maybe a little silly, but I found if helpful :)

To the girl not feeling like her friends or feeling un-feminine. When I was younger I was exactly like that, I actually took pride in being a tomboy. I don't know if you've seen those memes before of

Me: A girl in sweats with her hair in a bun, eating pizza.
I was the type of girl to take that seriously because every single example of a "slutty" or "dumb" girl would be a well groomed, pretty girl in a pink dress with makeup. Society actually teaches us that being feminine is bad but, also at the same time, pushing women to be as feminine as possible. It makes no sense.
I was the type of girl to say I hate dresses, to say that makeup is dumb, to say I hate pink, etc. All because of the terrible ways that society portrayed feminine women. Like, the mean girls in movies are always pretty girls who like makeup, nice clothes and pink while the "nice" protagonist girl is someone who never wears makeup and who refuses to dress in anything besides sweatpants, your typical tomboy.
Now, at 19, I LOVE dresses, I love fancy clothes, I love makeup and I love doing my hair. My entire room is pink, lmao. And I actually have this one girl in my school to thank. She was always so unapologetically herself, she'd come to school looking like she just walked on the red carpet. I admired her so much. And that's what opened my eyes and made me realize that she's all I've ever wanted to be but forced myself to not be.
Yeah, you can explore your sexuality, and more. But honestly, you could just explore your relationship with feminism as well. Maybe you have the same problem that I used to have. Or maybe you're just not as feminine as your friends. THAT'S FINE TOO. Don't think that because you're a woman, you're SUPPOSED to be feminine. That's also bullshit. Anyway, best of luck to you. 🤗

I’ve gone through a similar experience but I’ve always been a tomboy. As a kid I’d rather wear basketball shorts rather than those pink or Orange plaid shorts that everyone was wearing. I always said I hated the color pink and I even once judged a girl who sat next to me just because she wore makeup at school. Once I got a few years into highschool, I befriended many people who were very different from eo and opened my eyes that I can enjoy whatever I want, unapologetically like they could. Now at 19 and out of school, I found that I enjoy doing my makeup, I like to put on jewelry. I may not wear dresses but I did buy my first skirt a couple months ago! People change and grow and that’s completely normal! To anyone reading this, never feel like you have to hide the things that bring you joy, wear what you want!

To the person who feels badly about not being like their girl friends: I can relate so very much to that sense of being different from your female friends, bored by “feminine” interests, and extreme discomfort with female secondary sex characteristics (in my case, it was my hips rather than my breasts). For me it ended up being that I am non-binary transgender. It may be that you are asexual, bi/pansexual, or lesbian like mentioned in the video; or that you are some flavor of trans; or simply that you just don’t conform to the stereotypes culturally associated with your sex (not that anyone totally does). I know that’s a lot to think about, and the confusion and uncertainty can be frightening, but I just want you to know that it is 100% okay to be different, that it is 100% okay to question and explore your identity, that it is 100% okay to be uncertain, that it is 100% okay to try on and change labels, that it is 100% okay to not label yourself at all, and most importantly, that it is 100% okay to be unapologetically you, whatever that ultimately means.
On a totally different note, I definitely get strong autistic vibes from spoon boy. Being on the spectrum myself, I totally understand how one can endlessly relate any and every topic back to our special interests and never get bored of talking about them (or realize that other people have lost interest and/or are trying to steer the conversation towards anything else).

I’m not trying to plant any ideas in anyone’s head, but the person who was talking about feminity and feeling uncomfortable with things and not knowing why..those are the exact feelings I was experiencing before I realized/made the connection that I’m a trans man. I was trying so hard to fit the mold of what girls did and it all made me so uncomfortable and I couldn’t figure out why. Then I tried dressing and acting however I wanted and it just felt right. It wasn’t uncomfortable to exist for the first time in my life.
