It's crazy hearing about this, I went to the same camp and it always seems like a far of memory rather than a real place so having someone with a similar orienteering experience. It was less the compass and more the paces that messed us up though
In middle school, we played this hand game called tennis ( I don't know why it was called that but It wasn't actually tennis). You would take turns slapping the other person's backhand, whoever pulled away first lost. One time we finished the game and I won, My backhand was blood red.
I did that in highschool, though I was one of the tougher kids, so when I went off against a girl who had beaten most of the people I would linger around (pretending to be close to them when I was the group loner), we got bored of trying to get the other to back out and just started trying to see how fast we could go, getting in as many slaps as possible in the second.
I did that as a kid, we called it Russian Rock Paper Scissors. The difference was whoever won the Rock Paper Scissors would get to slap the other person's hand. Good times.

The stupidest thing I can remember doing as a kid was thinking that I'd lost my glasses yet again and running around the school trying to retrace my steps to find them only for a teacher to point out that they were on my face the whole time. The reason I was so panicked was because I'd lost them a couple times before and my mother said she'd whip my tail if I lost them again.

The stupidest thing I can remember doing as a kid was thinking that I'd lost my glasses yet again and running around the school trying to retrace my steps to find them only for a teacher to point out that they were on my face the whole time.
