  • A 1964 Burroughs film showcasing customers using its computers in multiple government and private sector applications. Portions of the film have been slightly restored, as it contains valuable historical information, including RARE footage of the BUIC military computer (D825) built for the U.S. Air Force. This is one of five Burroughs related computer history videos we have posted on CHAP site. - Hope you enjoy them all. Thank you for watching. An index to various film topics is below.

I was born in 1964 my father was supervisor of assembly engineering encoding systems programs unit 3612 for Burroughs. Their employee club Burroughs Farms including golf course and lake was a great place to spend some time as a kid.

I was a field engineer for Burroughs in the 70s-80s, a bit north of Detroit. Our group held our summer picnic at the Farms one year. A great place...

Enjoying going through looking for B5000 and B6500 details. It's hard to imagine that such a beautiful architecture existed as early as 1963. I don't there is anything on the market today that compares.

Even if you don't like computers, those vintage documentary clips are fun to watch.

Who doesn't like computers, if computers are everywhere! Even in your TV or washing mashine!

A lot of times you'll see old school Burroughs consoles used as props in movies and TV, due to their many 'blinkenlights' and stereotypical "big iron" appearance. The "Bat Computer" on the original Batman TV show is a B-205. Dr. Evil is another well-known hard core Burroughs user. Geology.... topography... AND water resources..... As if there were any OTHER reason to get a computer...

Burroughs was so fine in its prime days. Merging with Sperry Univac may have it down a few bits. Smaller size and volume may have forced it to join Univac. 😮😮

Great films these. The Payroll at Westclox Scotland used a Burroughs comptomoter into the 90s it was what they were used to.

Eventually Burroughs bought Sperry and gave birth to Unisys.

This absolutely could NOT have been made in 1964... as the 747 Jumbo jet was not commercially available until 1969.

Hi Roger, your comment interests me. I don't see where a 747 Jumbo jet is mentioned in the film. Can you point me to it? ~ thanks.

@@ComputerHistoryArchivesProject At 1:05 That is a 747 AFAIK. That didn't fly until 1969 and BOAC didn't get any until 1970 and didn't fly any until 1971.

Hi Michael, yes , I see what you mean now. Actually, that little clip of the plane taking off is of more recent time period, it was added later since the original film clip was damaged. The rest of the film of the Burroughs machines is from 1964 though. Good catch! Thanks! ~ Victor
