      baw bee Nepinak I think that carpentry takes a lot of trial and error and learning how to build using TH-cam, but then it needs to be put into practice.

      Hey thanks Chris. I hope I don't disappoint you but im self taught. I learned by trial and error plus a little patience. When I purchased my house in 2012 I bought tools an very little furniture. Been tinkering since then.

      @Destinysproblemchild 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I love your tutorials and I would love to be able to make something like this but I live in a small apartment and dont have any power tools like a circular saw and all that,

    • @DIYCreators
      @DIYCreators  7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      +duvallkid1991 A circular saw can seems to be intimidated if you're not used to using it. They take up small footprint and they're very handed to have. It's really a key part of making, having the ability to make straight cuts.

    • @Destinysproblemchild
      @Destinysproblemchild 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thats true I just wouldnt be able to use one in my apartment or on the property lol It would be easier for me to find someone who has the space and all the tools lol

      Well. Except the soldering, that may be rather difficult

    • @josephalejandro9202
      @josephalejandro9202 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheCyclonesEye Soldering is surprisingly easier than it looks like.

    • @Leowulfs
      @Leowulfs 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheCyclonesEye Haha idk man, have you cut wood with a handheld circular saw or a hand saw? It's easy to ruin a cut.
      The difficult part is getting wood clamps and spacers to give you good control - which is surprisingly expensive. That's where the miters, table saws, jig saws, etc. make the work easy and once again... No DIY'er will just have a professional grade woodworking workshop in their garage.

    "AL's PRETTY CREATION's" ... im a master furniture maker I've been building contemporary furniture for 26 years now. my furniture incorporates lights, glass, water and mirrors. but in my 26 years of building houses and furniture. I have'nt seen many brothers like myself woodworking or cabinetmaking. especially here on youtube and I've been looking. I first discovered your videos when I was looking here on youtube for new ideals for floating shelf for a client when I stumbled across your floating bookshelf. your floating bookshelf was similar to a previous bookshelf I built a while ago. except mine had led changing lights and beveled glass inserts. when first seen your video. I thought it was going to be some silly ikea hack but to my surprise ... you did complete scratch build. keep up the good work excellent video.

    I don't know if you did the 'black box' riser on purpose, or by accident, because of the difference in height you mention in the video. Whichever it was, it looks brilliant. I really like the trim solution you've used on the drawer faces for this and the Murphy bed. It's a simple solution that gives a nice depth to the drawer faces.

    lol, dyi for professional woodworkers, with thousands of dollars in tools.

    • @jc5604
      @jc5604 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Perfect example of this generation not understanding that you actually have to practice a skill to become an expert. They just want it handed to them. I bet this guy started out like everyone else; making bird houses in shop class.

    • @sergstroble3245
      @sergstroble3245 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not everyone has thousands of dollars to buy professsional tools to practice with. if you have that much money to buy those tools, then you are not a amateur woodworker. with those tools, anyone could make this stuff yes, but for 95% of the people who watch, they will never buy the kind of tools you use, because to make it economical, they would have to be a professional and do only wood working to pay for those tools.

    • @jc5604
      @jc5604 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It takes time to acquire the tools. All of the tools you see in your grandpas garage were acquired over a period of years. First you get a circular saw and master it, then a year or so later get a miter saw and master it, and so on. My comment is implying that patience makes the tool shed.
      Hell, start off with a circular saw and some garage sale hand tools. You'd be surprised how much you can accomplish with simple tools. And you'll probably appreciate the product much more when you have to use hand tools.

    • @sergstroble3245
      @sergstroble3245 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol, how about you try doing some diy stuff with just a circular saw. would love to see how good that looks.

    • @jc5604
      @jc5604 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Like i said, you're part of the generation that doesn't want to work to become an expert. You saw The Matrix and equate TH-cam to uploading skills into Neo. Sorry, life doesn't work that way. I gave you advice, if you choose not to use it, then that is fine by me.
      Teach a man to fish, or so they say.

      I would have thought the parts where he was using a bench saw without the guard would have posed more of a threat to his arms. Wood glue really isn't that corrosive.

    Lol to everyone complaining... DIY stands for Do It Your Self, it has nothing to do with what tools you have and don't have. If you wanna DO IT YOURSELF, then you need to find a way. If there is a will there is a way.
    Gotta say great job by the way and thank you. I do not have all those tools, but its helps to understand the level of work that you are doing and how I can get there! A Lot of cool stuff, would love to have that in my home one day! though it's worthless without your skill. I'll ask God for that too!

    I see a DIY and then I say hey, maybe I can do it, I got my Drill, Hammer, Screws and a Saw ready to work...Wait what??? what are all those tools?? That won't fit in apartment...I will need to rent a separate apartment and spend a couple thousand dollars in tools to be able to Do It Myself :( . Anyway, excellent table. I Love it. But Definitely I won't be able to DIMyself.

    As many have commented, really impressing! Not trying to take away of your craftsmanship but pretty sure 50% or maybe 55% of all the work is done solely by those amazing, expensive tools and accesories.

      Thanks, but I couldn't disagree more. I made this lamp by hand just to prove otherwise th-cam.com/video/a5yiMhJaGCo/w-d-xo.html The tools helps with how fast you can get the work done (patience it still required). If I gave someone access to my shop, there is no guarantee you will get the same results. My tools are not expensive. The most expensive tool I own is my tables saw $550, it took years to get my collection.

    About to get a desk together by using a solid door slab that will be stained and poly'd.
    For the shelves and drawers you made here, if they were stained, would it have needed as much sanding as you did?

    Love the slant on the right leg. Nice touch. Do some research on cross cut sleds for your table saw though. It'll help you avoid binding and a potential kickback. I'd hate to see the community lose a great TH-camr to a table saw injury. Great work! Blessings!

    For someone who has no table saw equipment, what are your suggestions to go about making custom desks like yours but on smaller scale?

    • @DIYCreators
      @DIYCreators  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You will need at least a circular saw. It will take a lot of patience but it totally possible. I am working on a series for viewers with limited tools. This series will help you make straight cuts and get a lot done from limited tools. Here is the playlist th-cam.com/play/PLE6IL_H-YxnztDZbRLT9ItW2J7q2ejT40.html Hope this helps.
