Giant Cassowaries are one of the most fascinating creatures on this planet and also one of the most terrifying. They are one of the closest things to a living example of a tiny prehistoric terror bird or dinosaur. They are very athleticly gifted. We just never get to see them in action
They're obviously at every zoo here in Australia. At the Perth zoo, they had a big fenced off section for the cassowary. Humans walked on a board walk through the enclosure. One of the cassowaries came right up to the fence when I walked toward it. Glared me dead in the eye and just continued to stare at me like it wanted to kill me. They are spooky. I've unknowingly swam near sharks before, nearly stepped on deadly snakes, etc, but none of them scared me as much as a cassowary.

After living in an area of cassowary habitat for fifteen years and having constant visits by cassowaries, my experiences tell me that they are nowhere near as aggressive as the reputation that people have imposed on them because it makes for a good story.
