So many people commenting on here have not done the research lately. Hard top RTT's are selling for anywhere from $3000 to $4500 in Canada. They come from the same factories. In fact a few guys are selling some on Kijiji or starting their own websites selling them and they are even using the exact photos off of Alibaba. To say "just buy from your local manufacturer or shop" is just dumb. They are literally doing exactly what she has done but larger numbers. Shake my head. Anyway thanks for the tips I am in the negotiation period right now with a few sellers.
I am currently bieng offered DDP shipping to California for $654 and the product value is at $680. Totaling a little over $1300. I understnd its more expensive this way but would it be worth it for someone like me who would rather not deal with all the customs stuff? Would i still have to pay other fees or is everything taken care of under ddp?
Great channel you have here. I was wondering which rooftop tent/supplier you went for? I have contacted a couple of them and they all tell me it will be 1000$ USD for shipping to Canada (I am in Quebec). How did you get 300$ shipping?
Wow, I almost did this but opted to buy local and pay the mark up. I am glad I did because the additional fees erase most of your savings plus I have support from my vendor. Glad this worked out for you guys though.
We personally wouldn’t take the risk of ordering a slide in camper. But we know friends who order tractor and heavy machinery parts all the time. The key it do enough research to find out if the seller is legit.
Thank you so much for making this video. Been looking at all rtt options on alibaba and wondered what all the delivery and import fees would add to the price.
I recently purchased four tents from China. Two each from different manufacturers. I ordered in October 2021 and one set shied up in March. The second in April. My freight of more than the tents themselves. It was about $1000 per tent for freight. I live in Kentucky. You must have done a great job negotiating.
@@TheRealJimmy831 one of the companies, MatMo I believe, sent the tents directly to my door. I didn’t have to deal with customs or anything. I would deal with them again, If you can afford to tie up $8000 for six to eight months. I sold the tents for $2500 each in less than a month.
Awesome info guys thanks heaps! Do you mind me asking what supplier you bought it from? Been chatting to a few on Alibaba but would be nice to know what tent matches up to what supplier as there's not many videos online with an up close look of the tents. Thanks heaps.
Couldn’t find that store anymore. Looks like they changed the store name or something. We still have their contact info. We’ll check and let you know !
@@AldoandDarsh the only thing i don't understand on alibaba when you register, they ask to enter your compagny name and it need to be a legally registred compagny....how it work is you don't have a compagny?
It's a risky thing to purchase from a seller when the return is nearly impossible. BUT... if nothing goes wrong (as is your case) then it is certainly a great saving and cost effective way to get the product you like. I am glad it all worked out for you and the RTT you have sure looks awesome! Good luck and happy trails.
This was excellent, thank you for making this video. Do you have a link to the actual tent you bought from the seller? Thats exactly what im looking for!
Hey glad you liked the video. There is no link to products rather seller profiles who place different products on their page. You gotta get in touch with one of such profiles to see what they actually have.
Hi I am trying to do the same. I see in video description you mention about 40% higher cost for shipping, costumes, etc I am getting 800$ qoute for tent but estimate of all costs is extra 1500-2000$ on top of the tent price. Does it make sense? Which freight forwarder die you use?
The cheapest hard shell RTT that we could find here in Canada was around $2300 - $2800 without shipping. So ya it made sense for us. Our package was handled by Binex Corp (Vancouver - Toronto) and Mathers (Toronto - Halifax).
Cost of shipping is per tent yes. Seller will provide you with a quote based on the quantity and weight of the product. They usually have a bunch of shipping options that you cab choose from.
I've purchased two rooftop tents from Alibaba over the last 4 years. The first one was a soft top that I paid $1000 including shipping by air in 2018. The second one is a hard top that I paid $900 including shipping by boat back in March. If you take your time and send inquiries to a number of companies, you will get multiple responses and can work out a great purchase price.
Damn. Not worth all the hassle for me and good luck with “warranty” that is if you even get one. I’ll rather support Canadian distributor’s or manufacturers of RTT. But as they say, to each their own. 🤙
All the kijiji post I found of RTT for sale are the exact same picture of the ones on alibaba. So someone did this exact process but ordered a bunch and are charging an extra $2000. Cut out the middle man and do it yourself seems best for me.
It's very difficult. They go very quick on facebook marketplace and always retain their value because people don't use them much. I've been looking for almost a year now for a deal on one because I'm not trying to spend $850 or more on a frickin tent.
@@frankpaige3026 I hear ya. It's just an option, but a valid option. I purchased a Autohome Airtop Maggiolina for $3600 back in 2010 new. I still have and use it on my off road trailer. It's been a really great tent. Last year I came across a used Autohome Columbus with a set of Thule adjustable truck bed racks for $800 on Craigslist - next state over from me. I called and told the guy I won't even dicker on the price, and leaving right now to come get it, and to please not sell it before I get there. It was a 3 hour drive one way. Got it! I put this rack and tent combo on my sons truck. The fiberglass shell shell has some normal dings from being used over the years, but the fabric and everything else is 100% perfect. Have your cash available and be ready to move quickly!!
I don’t recommend buying from them. For example it seems they stole designs and marketing images from the company Unidragon and are selling cheap and shoddy copies of their jigsaw puzzles on to other companies who are then stuck with big batches of them that no one wants - so they are forced to try and rip off their customers by selling them on. The jigsaw puzzles are so bad they are almost impossible to do and they don’t hold together. They’re also not the size they were advertised as. They’re a total scam. I wonder what their other products are like?

WOW... what an eye opener. I was happy that I was getting a hard crest roof top tent for just US$500... how untrue..
Great video and it is in my opinion a thorough explanation. You guys rock.

Who makes the smitybilt overland xl rooftop tent? I want to buy that tent without the branding and the price.
Do you like the quality of the tent so far? Is it holding up good? Thanks!
It’s been good so far 👌🏽

Hello, I am a roof tent manufacturer from China, hope to cooperate with you
all the fees cancelled out the saving tbh. Also a lot of people are handling the product so there’s a higher risk on damages . Not worth it,but thanks
Maybe not worth it for you. The one I am looking at is $800 asking price and to buy in Alberta or B.C it is $3500. Totally worth it IMO.
Another way to save a buck, buy slighty used.
