  • Here's how to paint a procreate watercolor childrens book illustration in procreate. This is kinda like an iraville or taryn knight style illustration tutorial.
    Free sketch: www.mediafire....
    Free colors: www.mediafire....
    🎃STUFF I USED FOR THIS VIDEO 🎨
I used a combination of brushes and a paper texture for this project:
Little pine/gloaming brush (in the Drawing tab/Procreate Brush Library)
-Fineliner Pen/Abstract Round/water blender (Amazing watercolor for procreate kit, link below)
-St Petersburg paper texture (this is the smooth paper effect)
The watercolor brushes and the paper texture are products I sell on my etsy store to support the channel. These tools help you create organic looking watercolor-textures in Procreate.
Amazing watercolor for Procreate Kit (brushes):
    drifterstudio....
St Petersburg Paper texture (the paper effect is optional, but it's very cool):
    drifterstudio....
(The watercolor kit comes with a very clear TH-cam tutorial and you can also contact me directly if you need anything or if you want a refund. I'm extremely active on etsy and I'd love to chat with you)
If you cannot afford the brushes/texture, please message me on my Etsy store in the links above and I can help you. I love to teach art and help traditional artists try out digital painting. The income from the Etsy store helps this project be financially sustainable. I really try to use the best hardware and software I can afford and make the videos as good as I possibly can.
The background music is called 'Yestalgia' and I have a license from Artlist 🙏

Ha! Brilliant 🤩 I love the new tips you shared today too, definitely going to try the selection tool to erase the edges. One thing I thought when you did the sweater in this, was that it would also have looked super cool exactly as it was without cutting it back to match the sketch, a gorgeous fuzzy sweater 😍 Thank you, Calvin, very much appreciate the time you take to do these for us 🙏🏼☺️

I adore your videos and your brushes! May I ask what you use to print out your illustrations? Do one have to print it out on special paper or is the effect that comes with your package enough? Thanks so much!

Calvin, long time fan - is there a reason you aren't utilizing the clipping mask feature? E.g. on pumpkin lines?

  • @eddysepulveda
    @eddysepulveda ปีที่แล้ว

Very hice! One question though , why not use clipping masks instead of having to erase outside the borders every time you painting a wash?

thank you so much! you can use that method, the result is the same and it's faster. mostly I'm trying to keep the concept simple, and since i can fast forward the tutorial, it doesn't really matter so i try to use the simplest techniques 🙏

Have you ever done a children's book Calvin? I'll be using your brushes and watercolor paper textures to do illustrations that will be printed in a children's book and didn't know if you had any tips!
I know the watercolor background is about 4,000px x 5,000px, so do you think there'd be any issues if I select and transform elements in procreate but then print the final versions to be 8"x10.5"? I figured since the size of the original artboard with your watercolor texture is so much bigger that if those transformations create any pixelation or blurriness it shouldn't really translate since I'll be making the final prints so much smaller than 4,000px x 5,000 px. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

hi! I have a few coloring books for sale but no children's books yet. I have a chunk of experience with printing and I think it would be absolutely fine to resize the 4000px x 5000px artwork to 8" x 10.5" (of course, make sure the artwork is not being distorted). Printing quality-wise, that would be totally fine for a children's book. Scaling down artwork is never a problem. If you are doing this in photoshop, make sure everything and all the pages and stuff are in the same color space (sRGB).
Every time you add a step to your production process, you are introducing a possibility of errors with colors. Make sure you double check everything and keep your source files. When you assemble the final book, check all the obvious stuff, but it's easy to miss if one illustration is slightly desaturated and 'dull'. this is what will happen if you accidentally mix color spaces during production and then assemble them all into a final book layout.
