The commentators was one of the best parts of this classic show 👌
Absolutely agree! Gabe is one of the best! He reads the players and gameplay so well.
@@gheffz i friend of mine went to the wsop. Unfortunately he wasnt able to get into the money but he came back with a selfie with gabe and that's a huge win in my book.
@@sadgfasdg542 Agree! Thanks for sharing.
thank you for continuing to upload these :)
use to be free and available 24 7 before they put it behind a pay wall
@@vernajewel91 yeah but it costs money to put a licensed production in front of people.
@@AinsleyHarriott1 I mean it was free on TH-cam for 10 yrs. This shows like 20 yrs old how can they charge people for it 🤣
38:33 "he sounds like a rapper" 😅😂👌🏻
_If the cards don't cooperate no amount of skill is going to help you!_ Gabe was one of the best commentators of the past... so entertaining... He reads the players and gameplay so well.
the commentary is edited in after the recording
Absolutely awsome old school legends paying the finest game on the planet
"Everybody's havin fun" great Phil quote after Jerry's joke
6:09 I love the commentators reaction 😂.
That was a fantastic hand by Jennifer, though.
Got to feel bad for Esfandiari, losing two big pots whilst playing them perfectly. Poker is so harsh sometimes.
Are u really care for rich people, meanwhile u are poor?🤣 Do u think he feels bad for you?😂
He is a gambler, this 80g suckout was prob spit in the sea. He played much bigger games already to this time
The luck factor is very high. Most people now playing high stakes have made their money elsewhere. Don't feel too sorry for him. He won 19 million in a tournament
@@ronhunt2254 that doesn't mean that he own 19 million. You had to count all tournament buyins also the one that he didn't cash, plus he also selling his action his winnings are not 100% his. And when you count the tax I really doubt that he had more that 1,5-2 million net worth
This was long before he scored his One Drop win as well . He was being backed mainly in these days , so it’s a lot of pressure knowing your playing with other people’s money as well . That’s where staying calm like he did is so crucial . Gotta love the guy!!
The Golden Era. Legends at every seat.
Home game warm 2000s vibes
Thanks for this videos
👏👏👏👏
at 39:43 Johnny blew out Daniel's ear drum
Salute to Henry Orenstein, if he didnt invent the Hole Card Cam we wouldnt be enjoying this show right now
Always chabad behind it
Phil started playing every hand and we know what happens when Phil plays every hand lol
What this lunatic doesn't get is the obvious truth that these people generally play much broader ranges with low end pocket pairs or low suited connectors unlike amateurs playing AJs, KQs or Q10s much more than anything else. It was so easy to bust him here, he was playing so bad it's unbelievable even for amateur standards.
Wow to see this game here from back in da day with these legends in 24 September 2023 is just classic
25:32 the “solemn draw out march” lol
Im all in I watched the live stream yesterday but I find this much better
Every time I see AJ and Gabe doing the intro I mute it and like to think I'm watching the intro to a bad early 90s PC mafia game
20:04 - I never noticed how much Antonio made that noise before this video..... wow.
22:06 - We love ya Gabe, but Todd was actually pointing at the board as in "I'm playing the board"
34:21 6 handed, and Hellmuth puts all his money in with 66 on 852. The best in the world, Phil Hellmuth.
He understands the need to stay balanced between his genius play and his fish play. He was ahead of the game, truly.
Now we have to watch guys like Nik airball
Never over till its over. The bet was correct and the call was correct. Daniel knew what he was holding and put him to the test. Great TV.
Bring back all these old school players!!!!!
Yeah, you gotta dig up a couple and get a couple out of rehab, but I miss these games!
Antonio’s laugh always gets me
The greatest poker show ever
This is what I live for
I was a td in the boom. It was incredible
His magesty's number 4 hahahahaha
I remember seeing Gabe in Las Vegas 1977 walking around the casino floor with two massive bodyguards , He was socializing around the tables.. The place was packed.. This was during "Welcome Back, Kotter" television series. USA.
17:48 - you know Negreanu is [almost-more-than] one of the top 5 players in the world when his read is perfect and the commentators still say this perfect read isn't his most impressive one! :P
I love Gabe, but man, that outfit and moustache… 🤣🤣🤣
This is a great lesson on "Don't Play Unsuited Gappers".
The rubber room suite😂
Legendary
23:03 that grumble…
IKR 😂😂😂
Phil "Their picking on me Mummy... boo hoo hoo!" ffs. Grow a pair!
This is from 2006.
It's amazing how far poker strategy has come. Some of these plays are head scratchers.
AQ used to be so undervalued. Got limped such a large percentage of the time
hellmuth always knew it
but yet he is going broke
Never seen someone call so many hands and call anyway
Back to the age where poker and most important thing people who’s playing poker were interesting characters. Not like now where all this pro player are boring nerd type guy growing in front a pc.
The golden age of Online Gaming and TV Poker.(2004-2010) Both ruined by PC nerds.
@@kevinfinnerty8414 ruined by solvers, HUDs, coaching sites, then on top of all that regulations and Black Friday. If it wasn’t for Black Friday we would still have Full Tilt, Pokerstars and UB.
HONEY HE CALLED ME WITH A SMALL PAIR
What the heck is Chan wearing?
chan only plays top tier hands
When I'm in any pot or a big pot, I always ask myself , "Why am I in this pot ?"
Wheres the next episode? :(
Im all in
One of these times Danial is going to play that bluff and someone will break it off in him!
Welcome back kotter.
Phil phil
That is the new phìl
For $25k and a 30% Pot Bet I think Daniel should’ve called that River Bet.. I didn’t expect him to fold to anything under 50% pot
She had a conservative image and he just felt he was beat.
Agreed on the conservative image of jennifer. She wasn't running many 3 street bluffs. Plus daniel knows her well. They were friends and he bought Jennifer's old house. So probably just made a read and didn't like it.
One of the few advantages of playing so tight is being able to occasionally make these plays. The problem is when you have a monster you don’t get paid unless they also have one. Some people will even lay down fairly strong hands to a super tight player just because they don’t want to reward them for sitting around waiting for the nuts for 6 hours ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I always have a slight grin whenever i see girls try to fire bluffs since it's never truly convincing. That river bet was garbage where she was saved by her image. She needs to bet anything north of 35k.
What’s a Set?
These are 100 times better than the new episodes. The new episodes are unwatchable. Would like to see all the players from this video playing on the new episodes.
Mate there practically dinosaurs nows
They are all only 17 years older
❤️
The waitress is sweet😊
So when Daniel said “I’ll show you a card after you fold”, that’s a tell that his hand is weak? So I guess when I have the nuts, I should say “I’ll show you a card after you fold” to make them call. But if they fold, I’ll just say “jk” and fold my cards face down lol
Negreanu was a huge fish in this game. Every hand you watch back he plays it badly. I wonder what he thinks nowadays of his showing.
He accidentally tried to incite Antonio to fold. "if you fold, I'll give you something you want." Because it was a sincere slip up, it was a text book Tell.
Say what you want about Hellmuth but he's a legend most of these guys have gone broke he at the top 30+ years
Forgive my ignorance, but how come they are playing with a mix of cash and chips?
In this situation, I believe it is more of a show than standard thing. But I have seen plenty of cash games where they keep cash and chips mixed together. The chips has a real dollar value so it doesn't really matter if you bet with chips or cash.
It was definitely for show. Casinos want you using chips so they can hold onto the cash.
If they don't have a specific chip denomination like 25k chip, they can use stack of cash instead. Anyway I enjoy use of cash. It feels like old school.
The golden nugget let’s 100$ bills play
Back when this was originally filmed/aired you could play in most Las Vegas casino poker rooms with cash - but not anymore.
For the high stakes players they liked playing with cash for the main reason that it allowed them to circumvent US tax laws, but it also made it easier to lend/pay money to other players.
In regards to this show: it was all done to just make everything look more impressive - stacks of hundies all bundled together and tossed in the middle looked better to the viewer at home than if they just scooted out 3-4 chips... its the same reason why at the WSOP Main Event final tables that they don't color up the chips: it looks more impressive to have the final two facing off against each other with thousands of chips in front of them even though it slow and impractical to have them actually play that way.
As said, they can't play with cash in the casino any more - the biggest reasons are to prevent money laundering and tax evasion, but the other main reason is about trust: if somebody sits down at your table and plops down a bundle of 100 $100 bills and says its $10,000 how would you know its all there or that some/all of it isn't fake unless you stop the game and have it counted and tested?
Phil doesn't have the "nut straight" with a 4 or 8....if a heart against buss
Jen Harman was an absolute legend of the game back in those days, does anyone know if she still plays at all? I know she lives in Vegas and has kids but not much else beyond that.
Before COVID i remember playing at a table at aria right outside the Ivey room and she was in there
She was at a couple of WSOP events this year and turned up on DN's vlog a couple of times, I think.
I miss that lovely mousey Jennifer
Wa wa
Denyel Nagrana
Johnny played 3 times, always had daniel first to his left.
Why do they have real money on the table, couldn't the Golden Nugget swap it for chips?
PokerGo's strategy is just awful. Only a tiny proportion of people will ever pay to watch High Stakes Poker reruns. Why not put them all for free and coin the ad revenue and mod roll ads. Im a TV executive producer who works at the highest level. Surely a no brainer for the management to see?
Negreanu is a master at reading men, but any other gender, and he falls apart haha
But the part the players didn't get ... Phil was the 'lady'....ha
Violent??? How about Chilidish and rude.
Harmon quit blowing bubbles with your gum your mother is watching
Daniel is a fantastic player but also the luckiest imo
Jen Hartman one pretty lady
Hellmuth...cash games are not his forte. 🤣 Also, Harman reads men better than she reads women not because of the mans ego but simply because she plays with men a massive majority of the time.
Why is so phil sm worse at cash games than tournaments. Im new to poker so Im just trynna understand
@@Nooop655 I do not know enough to say for sure but there are different strategies when playing tournament rather than cash. Tournament you are sort of one-and-done if you lose all your chips (sans rebuys) whereas cash games you can just keep buying in until you no longer want to. This results in (I think) tighter play in tournaments, looser play in cash games.
Because there is loser play in cash games, you end up facing hands you may not see in tournaments as often. AK is a tournament is stronger than AK in cash because your opponent may decide to splash around with a suited 7/8 or offsuit J/10, etc. in a cash game.
Plus Phil steams easy so he is easy to take advantage of in that regard.
Again, I ain't no expert but this is sort of what I have picked up watching and talking to others over the last couple of years.
Also, in tournaments blinds keep going up.. your stack is going to be eaten away just by the blinds if you don't play. And when you have a small stack, sometimes you just have to go all in and corss your ffngers. In cash games, if you play within your bankroll, you should always play full stack and wait for the right opportunities.
I miss Jennifer Harman.....she's great for the game
Хуже чем Хельмут никто в мире не играет.Ему надо заниматься чем нибудь другим
Очень старое видео... И в очень посредственном качестве
Harman is soooo boring
Even though gabe was surprised she wasn't wearing eyeblack under her eyes?
Almost as boring as that Jerry guy.
no one likes phil hellmuth, unfortunately he is rarely aware of that obvious fact
In my opinion he is the one of those pros who can participate today mb on the same level. Respectfully
Phil is actually a pretty nice guy and he's fully aware that maaaany people don't like him.
@@CAPTEINRIGGS Do you go out with him? because based on what I've seen over the years watching him play, he's definitely not a nice guy.
i love phil. so funny character
So I guess if I’m ever playing a big pot against Antonio in my life & I have the nuts, then I will go all-in, then tell antonio “I’ll show you a card if you fold”, because apparently, that’s a super obvious tell that you’re bluffing. Got it
It so obviously was a huge Tell. Weird to see a pro make such a huge slip up like that, rarely happens.
Jennifer Harman was always such a terrible player. Genuinely awful.
I guess we can't complain. Got the first 12 episodes for free.
Phil is one of the worst cash game players I’ve ever seen
