  • The Earth has always been changing. Pangea wasn't the only super continent, and it certainly isn't going to be the last. What were the landmasses before Pangea?

      +Dylan Pierce There's several scattered all across the interwebs, though I can't really pull any up atm. My advice would be to look up the possible supercontinent "Amasia", since it seems to be the most plausible at this point, imho. There are others however, such as Pangea Proxima and Pangea Ultima, but these would seem to require that the American Supercontinent (North & South America) to change their drift angles by 180 degrees, and return from wince they came.

    Oh, no. South America didn't run off with north America. North America was near South America and Africa got all jealous and left south America, even though it had been hanging with the islands just because they were close. Then After Leaving South America, Africa split up with Antarctica, which broke Africa, but it fixed itself. And then Antarctica left Australia, which made India not want to hang out with them anymore, and making it hang out with the big guy, Eurasia, then Australia just wanted to do it's own thing, so it left everybody, and it started breaking into a bunch of pieces like a sissy, and Antarctica felt sad so it isolated itself, but South America secretly loves Antarctica, so it stays close to keep it company.

    All my memories gather round her

    Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
    Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye
    Country roads, take me home

    I hear her voice, in the morning hour she calls me
    The radio reminds me of my home far away
    And driving down the road I get a feeling
    That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday

    • @sonochinos
      @sonochinos 8 ปีที่แล้ว +62

      TH-cam Official Billion = 10^9, Million = 10^6, Thousand = 10^3. Thousand million = 10^3 × 10^6 = 10^9 = Billion. Welcome to math

    • @Ultr4lit3
      @Ultr4lit3 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      yes, but he said "thousands of millions" that can refer to 1 thousand 2 thousand 5 thousand, 11 thousand even 999 thousand because all of that fits within a million meaning that if he said billion it wouldn't be accurate

      Metric system is standard in 90% of the world, and its simple, flawless and natural. And your imperial sistem is ridiculous, you are measuring distance with the lenght of King henry's feet. Rest of the world is just laughing at you guys. Just look at this, this doesnt make any sense:
      Inch = 0.083 feet
      Foot = 12 inches
      Yard = 3 feet or 36 inches
      Mile = 5,280 feet or 1,760 yards
      the fuck is this suposed to be man, you have to be scientist to measure lenghts.
      In comparison to metric system:
      10mm = 1cm
      100cm = 1m
      1000m = 1km
      It cant be simpler and easyer to use damnit. USA is a joke lol

      The way the continents formed was due to the physical laws of the universe, and the way your brain "randomly" generates images like continents works on those same laws. You'd expect a similar outcome.
      Another example of this is the golden ratio which tends to occur in nature, if you ask a person to draw a random rectangle, it will probably fit the ratio almost perfectly, just as flowers, shells and faces do.
      Life is full of patterns.

      This used to be confusing to me as a child but geographers have something to say about such an issue. Eurasia is geographically one single continent whereas Africa can be an independent one. Geographically, a continent has its own climatic zones and affects ocean currents greatly. More importantly, it has its independent set of tectonic plates. Africa matches all such conditions independent of Eursia. The Americas are separate continents for the very same reasons. Also, Australia is considered a continent, not an island as it matches the criteria.
      So, back to the question--Aren't the Old World and the New World supercontinents? Not in a strict sense, until they are so distorted in form that they can no longer match those criteria independently.

    OH - did I miss the beginning footage? It would be nice to see WHERE the continental plates were once located LONG BEFORE they wandered off to unite as PANGEA as it may help understand the Ediacarian and Cambrian periods better. Why? Because the land masses were shown to be so have been so different then, showing for example that India and Madagascar were united AGES before they had any contact with the African coast...

    4:25 The coal in the modern day Appalachian Mountains existed in the rock layers deep beneath the continents far before those mountains formed. Most coal on Earth formed between 400 and 300 million years ago, entirely from compressed plant matter and not animals. It was just after the continents collided, forming the mountains, and forcing the rocks up that the coal could be exposed at surface level.
