- The Flaming Lips' 'Embryonic' documentary.
I've reuploaded this from the old delocreative TH-cam channel, since they unfortunately took down all of their videos.
Per PsychiatricExplorations: "Blastula debuted at the deadCENTER film festival in Oklahoma City. It was subsequently streamed on the internet starting on September 24, 2010."

wayne belongs to the golden generation of american musicians but he never stopped making great music , that's the point , he works hard and he loves what he does and this is the best thing we can say obt him . keep rockin' dude !
I'll never forget the first time I heard this album. I loved all of the other albums from 'The Soft Bulletin' through 'The Terror' (excluding the Heady Fwends collaboration which I didn't have), but even though I'd owned 'Embryonic' for about a year, I'd never actually listened to it. How can I describe that first spin? It was like being shot by a howitzer, but instead of obliterating me, I experienced everything in four dimensions. I felt like I was seeing the universe from outside. That the Lips achieved this so far into their career is a testament to their greatness. This video is a superb companion piece to the album and I'm so grateful that you've preserved it.
It's so goofy when TH-cam channels take down all their content, thank you so much satellite.
I love the freedom this band has. They can take you away to a castle in the sky or make you realize not everything is ok or as it seems to be.
Great Band !!!!
This was a very interesting album it is my fave Flaming Lips album for sure but it literally was nuts nobody forgets the first time they hear this it’s 100% one of those
Love hearing Wayne, and especially Drozd, explaining the process
You Bats is such a turning point for the record. Some of the best recordings are born from just a lick played for the first time
Thanks for reuploading! I was hounding for that live session of Worm Mountain and didn't know it was a part of a documentary too.
Not only can drozd play guitar and keys at the same time, but he can do this as well-
6:23- six twenty seven
Which is my favorite part of this whole video-
I also appreciate the Pink Floyd, Pompeii camera work during this sequence….
♥️
It got a smile outta me
Do miss Kliff (n in key parts, this kinda illustrates just How he grew away from the Lips) but not 1/3 of how much I miss Ronnie
Thanks to thesatellitehead for another great Doc.
Does anybody know if Steven and Wayne were fighting again during this time ?
It looks like Steven is hiding the right side of his face, it looks like he has a bit of a black eye.
While Wayne has puffy eyes behind those ski goggles ?
Oh man, thanks for archiving this one!
Lots of good stuff got deleted in the delocreative & George Salisbury purge, I didn't save it all but I'm definitely glad I saved this one.
@@thesatellitehead #sad
@@thesatellitehead I have a lot of it saved in a hard drive, I'll send to you one day.
@@thesatellitehead why do you think he deleted all that stuff? and what happened to him anyway, seems like he retired or something. One specific thing i really want that unfortunately got deleted is the i wanna get high but i don’t want brain damage music video.
thanks for the reupload
I miss Wayne. Hope he’s good. Meant to talk to him some day after being a part of the background of a show once.
Wake and bake happy 4/20 goood morning
Always appreciative of the awesome stuff you share. This is great...thanks!
Very cool little doco, thanks!
What A Great Band! WooF!
Whats the first song they play? was it ever released? doesnt sound familiar but I like it
17:04 when he says Wilko I automatically think of Dr Feelgood which is a very different thing lol
Hey Mr. Head, I should know this but what is the song they are playing in the beginning?
I actually don't know either lol
Hey guys do you know if any of the demos have been released?
To me, it's a REALLY brilliant single album buried in a good double album with too much filler. There are very few double albums that I wouldn't say this about - Pink Floyd's The Wall, The Clash's London Calling, and Wilco's Being There are the only ones that come to mind right now.
In rainbows?
Make music like this again. Not so impressed with much post Embryonic.
They seemed to have become obsessed with slower songs. I prefer their rockers. Even their 3-disc Best of Collection focused too heavily on the slow stuff.
Not that great at all
I wanted yoshimi part 3 (I feel like, in a way, at war with the mystics was part 2) so I wasn't ready for embryonic when it came out. Now, many years later, it's fucking awesome in it's own right. Now, many years later, I can clearly see they never fell off. Not once.
