I work as a backend developer for a travel company in London and you'd think that I'd have had enough of developer life by the end of a long week but I actually really look forward to your videos
I figured why I am so fond of your vlogs, you just like an old friend and share things with us. You didn't try to do something special to attract viewers and you just be yourself. Always feel comfortable and relaxing while watching them. Keep it up and I will always be your fan.
I think you sound like a really decent person, as you’re relatively young and in a tech lead role, how do you find it? I can imagine the technology side of things probably doesn’t phase you but how about the people side of things? Offering advice and guidance to your team for people who could be older or more experienced than you. How do you manage that process?
Gerald Mariscotes I don’t doubt that for a moment, but the role of a tech lead is far more than just being a good programmer, it’s being a good mentor, decision maker and communicator. You become responsible for other people in your team and the team as a whole, generally tech leads don’t do much programming, they use their previous programming experience among other qualities to make decisions and provide technical and non-technical direction for developers.
Imo its not about who is senior or such and such, in tech its a good practice to share what u know/learnt, so its not uncommon for such situation to occur
There isn't much room between desks and the desk of the person sitting behind you. 2nd hand claustrophobia :) Also the person who did the personalised map of Berlin is a legend, what a nice thing to do
Hrududu agreed. Love that personalised map idea, especially if the person compiling it has spent some serious time there or lived there. It’s actually a great idea for a ‘where to eat’ plan for an area like Liverpool St area near the Monzo (and my) office ... I live nowhere near London and so I tend to pick places I’m familiar with ... probably walking past some great places to eat...
that clip of all of you just eating on those step was so like - soothing and then transitions back to work - I really like that like lunch atmosphere and the music - it was just really nice

Jake... that’s your forth video in a month. Are you okay? 😂 Seriously though, loving this! P.s: Bingo is so cute! And you said you’ve got other dogs at your office? Could you maybe have them cameo in a video? :p
Hi there, could you please do a video on your home desk setup, what hardware you use, what software you use and why. This will be a great help for beginners like myself. Thanks for the great content.
@@ReagueOfRegends your point is irrelevant, my original question was why there was only whites in the company and no diversity, what does it have to do with it being a European country or not!
Hi I've just subscribed! Your vids are great for aspiring developers who want to get an insight on what life is like. You should post more of these types of videos keep it up
Some things: 1) Is Bingo the office pet, or does someone bring him in? 2) Group lunch at 4:40 - This looks like it could belong in some promotional video to work at Monzo. Was this staged? Also, it seems like everyone at Monzo is in their 20s. 3) 7:15 Look at those miniature butcher knives! Now I'm asking myself why I don't know places like this! I imagine date night with Jake would be amazing.
1) someone brings him in - there are quite a lot of dogs in the office at any one time but Bingo is probably in the most often 2) No this wasn't staged, but we realised at the time it looked that way.
Can you elaborate on the purpose and format of the 'one to one' ? Traditionally Id expect it to be with a direct manager about performance but judging by who you went on one with seems more of a mentoring style?
Hope you can upload a video how you plan your project before to code, like how you plan data structure, database design, etc. Because i always code first before planning the project itself 😅
I did! I was kind of hoping he would put them in his backpack and when he got to work he would take the bowl of cornflakes out of his backpack and they would still be in the bowl with the milk and he would sit at his desk and eat them!!!!
I would hate a quiet open plan office. I would need music because the sounds of people typing and making all sorts of small noises would drive me crazy, and if I had headphones, the fact that I'd be annoying others with my typing etc would piss me off too. I'd rather my own office with no music, but obviously that's impossible in the UK.
Have thought of moving before to work for an english company abroad but my worry is the translation of apps do they usually have language experts that deal with that from belfast my self.
I heard from more than 1 person (on their high 30s and 40s) interviewed for a job at Monzo that the company was very ageist, this video kinda proves that! Awful!
Anyone else think he was gonna put his cornflakes in his backpack? 😂
Came here just to comment this 😂😂

0:30 Glad to see someone tying the knot the right way.
Jay Kay , I do not get your comment. Other than a direct knot, how else may on e be expected to tie their shoes?
Some people make two loops and then tie them together instead of making one loop and passing the other end around and below it.

Monzo seems a good company, not many accept pets in the office and the people working there seem happy and productive.
It looks like every employee is below 25 years old.
And all white, no asians, no blacks no other origins, why is that?
