  • Tim and Rosemary visit Holkham Hall in North Norfolk, as they retrace the steps of 16-year-old Victoria on a two day visit there, in 1835, two years before she became Queen. It was part of a PR drive by her mother, the Duchess of Kent, who was keen to show Victoria off to her future subjects. And it was obviously working. Tim reveals how, in nearby Kings Lynn, the townspeople insisted on pulling her carriage around the town in celebration of her visit, and he also discovers the young princess's love of music and how on this visit she was involved karaoke, Victorian style.

After her unpopular predecessors, Victoria’s life mission was quite literally to revive faith and support for the monarchy. She was carefully paraded about to get the people to love her

Because she was one of the best rulers that they ever had. She created a great cultural expansion, advances in industry, science and communications; and the building of railways and the London Underground. Before she became queen it was still believed that a woman could never rule as good as a man. But she proved them wrong by being one of the greatest leaders they’ve ever had.

12:00 - no, I don't have to wonder whether those from upstairs appreciated what those from downstairs did for them. They were born and bred in a conviction that it was a god-given order for other people to serve them and never for a moment did they feel a slightest hint of gratitude for the work of the others that was done for them. If anything, they would probably look at your foie gras rings you labored on for hours through a magnifying glass, conclude they were not perfectly symmetrical and banished you to a workhouse.

  • @OstblockLatina

I sure do hope that image at 8:53 is purely fictional, because if it isn't it means that somebody stole a bird's nest with newly hatched chicks for a child's pleasure and sentenced several young innocent animal lives to untimely death to satisfy someone's whim. Thanks to multiple livestreams from bird box cameras I witnessed the amount of time, work and hardships birds have to go through to build their nests, lay and brood their eggs and feed their young before the new generation is ready to begin their lives in the wild. Very often losing some of them in the process because of attacks of different predators, weather and temperature irregularities, infectious animal diseases and food shortages, or just completely unexpected and random accidents, and it makes me furious to think sb would forfeit all that with such a thoughtless, cruel and egoistic deed.

Honestly tho, if I was a queen visiting this place, I'd order to have servants hold screens around my head whenever I'd be walking through that entrance hall because the tasteless motley of textures, patterns and colors "adorning" it is literally painfull to look at.
ALSO OMG the Victoria's supposed bedroom - it should have a notice hanging on its door prohibiting people suffering from epilepsia from entering it because the chaos of patterns and colors put all over it is sure to trigger a seizure. It reminds me of that hotel the guys from "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" were staying in. *"TACKARAMA"*
