These videos are very helpful for me. Thank you so much! I am not a certified interpreter, however, I have worked interpreting in the past. My main concern is I cannot remember more than two sentences at a time, so when there is too much information before the interpretation break I seem to miss important information. Do you have any video to exercise memory while doing consecutive interpreting? Also do you know any resource where I can learm more about signs for note taking during interpetation?

This segments are too long, so Ms. Nidka, do not worry, nobody will remember these entire segments. or memories cannot retain so much information, it is not only you, nobody will be able to remember these long segments. In real life we have to interrupt the speaker when it happens. so we are able to interpret accurate, and no miss information.
@@florharmon2558 First of all those segments are not too long and interpreters are expected to be able to interpret much longer segments with high accuracy. The best of interpereters can interpret up to 10 minutes of speech consecutively and accurately. Just to get the CCHI certification it is stated that segments in the oral interpretation test may be up to 2.5 minutes in length. In all of our published videos there a no segments over 2 minutes long. Can it be done? Of course it is probably being done in many parts of the world right now across many languages. Is it easy? No it requires a lot of hard work and practice.
Interpret Your World That might be true. But it requires at least a year (or more) of constant training. Actually, interpreters that can do that are few and far in between. In fact, the wages that a lot of these companies pay is not enough to retain any interpreter that is actually capable of reciting back 2+ minutes worth of information from one language into another. I'm curious to see what interpreters are actually doing this. The ones that do will never work for $15 an hour. They would work for the UN or for a company that pays big bucks. I have yet to see this type of company regularly advertising employment. Smh
PS. Your commentary was also very discouraging to that other commenter (Flor). I worked at a hospital doing interpreting for a few years. Our supervisor always told us that in the beginning we should interupt medical personnel if they gave too much information. In fact, she said no more than two sentences at a time if the interpreter needed it. In the medical field, it can be a liability to not do this if you didn't understand the provider or if you were not able to catch all the information given. You should be allow to interrupt them and ask for repetition or clarification.
in real life they do talk faster, but if asked to speak lower, in my experience they adjust, also they do provide space to interpret, so the video does represent real life with spaces. ofc video is much more ideal than real life, but still i feel its not accurate to say real life is non stop

I am working as a medical interpreter and believe me sometimes there are providers that talk like they are going to write a Bible and get mad if you don't say word by word everything they say. Sometimes they speak a little bit of Spanish and they notice if you are omitting something.

Its always hard at the beginning, don’t give up. A 40 hours course will really help as well.
