Daaaaaamn!!! I just bought myself a 2001 Boxster, when you was talking about your new car I was really hopping to be a Porsche!! Can’t wait for your Porsche videos! Congratulations!!
Hi Jeff, I hope you are ok with the fires in the southern highlands. Thanks to all the firefighters doing a wonderful job for us here in the bluey’s and across the state. Take care of yourselves mate.
I have a nearly identical 996 that I purchased 2 1/2 years ago. It has been a great car. The earliest (1999) model are the best of the series. Mine is a March 1998 build. The double row IMSB rarely fails. Enjoy!
You’ll LOVE the 996! Bet you got a GREAT DEAL! I’ve owned a 2001 996cab since new and will never sell it. Just did the IMS and the original was in perfect condition! The coolant reservoir will need replacement if not already done, the trick to installing it is to drop the engine down a few inches! Have fun with your new toy!
Great buy, I got one earlier this year. Much maligned for its looks but the more you look at it, the more you can see nods to 911’s past in its styling. Really easy to work on and reasonable parts prices as well, as there were so many made. Looking forward to seeing how you go with yours.
sorry to hear about the accident but glad your ok. That A5 is a nice car. I was in Scotland for two weeks in August and rented one. Great on the highway too big for the smaller roads of the highlands. Enjoy the 996 and i look forward to see what you do with it. I have a 2003 996 turbo and its a great car, only big thing was the radiators started to leak and i had to replace them, not cheap. The headlights don't bother me, maybe i've gotten used to them. It the best Porsche for the money at this time, hopefully the IMS was taken care of or its not an issue. good luck and have fun.
I had a regular S-line A5 coupe' , really nice car , but also a big and low car , best suited for long stretches , with not to many tight parkings ;) congrats on your new , it's allso German quality . Greetings Martin , Denmark
Regardless of what people say, I've owned one of these for over 7 years and had heaps of fun! It's relatively easy to work on and the driving experience was fantastic especially after I'd upgrade the suspension component. Very little went wrong. An awesome wagon. Good call!
I helped a mate buy a 996 a few months ago. I was pleasantly surprised how well it drove. 996 isn't a popular model at the moment. I bought my 964 when everyone was telling me they were rubbish. Best thing I ever did. Used it for 5 years as a daily driver, and for the last 5 years it has had an easier life. Not sure the values will go up, but I reckon depreciation will be far slower than an Audi. I reckon you have spent your money wisely!
Hello Mr. and Mrs. JEFF, I wanted to congratulate you for your excellent work on the porsche (not yet finished) the Datsun and alfaferrari in progress, your good mood and your mistakes that sometimes make you grow a cry of green man in anger (Hulk) against himself is just memorable. I look forward to the continuation of the current projects. I take English classes at the same time it's a treat. All the best. Hello from France
Jeff, first, congratulations on the new purchase and not getting hurt! Secondly mate, you are the only bloke I know of that doesn't " see what's next". You're always "moving forward" with this that and the other. Emus and kangaroos are two good examples of things that are always "moving forward" , and look what happened to Skippy on your Audi! Cheers mate
Excellent Choice Jeff!! The 911 will make for great content too with the IMS bearing. Please look into leatherique to dye your interior. A lot of the BMW guys I know have used it to go from grey to red, or even grey to cinnamon and it looks proper good!! Keep the great content coming love your channel!!
Love it. Great choice Jeff. Gotta say I had it picked during the drive to pick it up. Really looking forward to the content that the 996 will provide. As always watching with interest.
Congrats! I was thinking you might get a 911 when you were talking while driving. These are the best Porsche values and I think they're at the dead bottom of the depreciation curve. IMO, you can drive this for 10 years and sell it for more than you paid for it.
Good choice! Looking forward to the big turbo and methanol injection upgrade. A wide body kit and new suspension should only take you a weekend or so. 👍🦘
Congrats! Awesome purchase man! Sorry about the Audi and Kangaroo. I've never ever seen a kangaroo, but we love them here in CA. They make for great cartoons.
Thats a super dailydriver 👍 i had never problems ( 9 years) only a good service . Have fun 🤗🤗🤗 All the best frome switzerland daniel . Good christmas and happy new year !
I approve bloke and tell your better half that I will be cruising through Doomsden... Sorry Dunedin in two weeks so I will flick the light switch off when I leave. Great choice mate, looking forward to what is in store. Two Porches, a kiwi girl ... Your on the right trade and clearly have your head screwed on. If you run out of room, I have just built a Titan shed and happy to look after the 911. Merry Christmas and all that good gear. Regards, Your new Qld subscriber 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Ever watch the movie, "Gone in 60 seconds?" - that features your car mate, same colour too! Doubt IMS is an issue if it's made it 20+ years already. 996 is a terribly under-rated car, and I say that as an air-cooled aficionado. In terms of driving dynamics it really moved the game on. People forget how well it was received, it won all sorts of awards at the time. Bad luck with the Audi vs Roo, but I think you'll enjoy this car.
Sounds like the Australian kangaroo is akin to the American white tail deer. The deer love to total out cars here too. Fast on their feet, dumb as a squirrel, and they get hypnotized by head lights.
That sucks!Lol poor Kangaroo RIP. I had to tow a customer who had hit a deer with their Mercedes doing 60 MPH. The insurance company had no choice but to total it. It did roughly the same damage that your Audi recieved plus all the burnt fur stuck to the under carriage. Lol, be safe glad you didnt get hurt. 😁
It’s slightly bizarre I have been looking at 996s for a while. Sadly Mr Wallety says no. When it comes to buying used cars I keep to my one hard and fast rule: the car must have all the keys (spare, valet, etc, etc) and the old maintenance bills as well as the service history. Otherwise I won’t even look at it.
Hey Jeff, I just realized I was editing yesterday on our cat channel I saw the Patreon notification come throught. I clicked on the video, watched and then commented forgetting I was logged in under the other account. So, it might have looked as if you had a rogue patron. Just wanted you to know that Ozzie and Zeke are ok. Lol. Heidi
I had a 996 4s for 4 years,....i foresee new radiators/condensers, lower control arms, engine mounts, gearbox mounts, Aos,... in your future :) but doing it all yourself saves quite some costs. Enjoy! :)
good example why euro cars are not worth owing here in oz, just water pump prices on some are ridiculous.i will stick to my toyotas and parts same day if needed
Oh you got my dream car everybody hates them while I actualy like that its the black sheep of the family hope to get one before they become too expensive
The 996 is a good car that gets a bad rap. People wanted to hate it from day 1 because it was the end of the "classic 911", and it was never fairly judged on its merits. IMO, the only thing that lets it down is the (typical for the era) styling of the dashboard, but doing a center console delete improves that greatly. www.google.com/search?q=996+center+console+delete&tbm=isch
I'm intrigued by the balancer getting damaged, I've never seen a soft tissue impact do that before! Do Australian insurance companies allow you to buy back the salvage?
@@neilt8790 In normal parts of Australia it would have been classed as an economical write off, so you can buy it back, fix it cheap and get it back on the road. For someone like Jeff, this Audi would have been easy to fix. NSW has to be difficult and any written off vehicle cannot be registered. That Audi is now only ever good as a parts donor vehicle.
@@HomeBuiltByJeff I wonder if other states would let it get registered.. Send it to the west coast! ;) In all seriousness mate, glad you're okay. Sad to see the beast go but hey, new toy! Now just need to work on making Mrs Jeff happy with it....
Pretty soon that S5 will appear in New Zealand as a shoddily repaired pos with the seller lying that "Even vehicles with just minor damage get classed as Statutory Writeoffs in NSW" and using your minor bumper damage as photographic evidence. It's been happening for a couple of years now with ex Australian cars.
Yeah, I'm presuming your S5 is on the Repairable Writeoff list but dodgy sellers here are just calling them all Statutory Writeoffs to cloud the issue.
There is no such thing as repairable write offs in NSW anymore due to dodgy repairs. Once written off it is done, probably why they are sending them OS.
Home Built By Jeff Ah, so basically if it's deemed "uneconomical to repair" it now goes on the single list? The dealers and sellers here are saying "any repair" or even having been stolen and recovered, no matter what damage, puts it on the list.
I did 30 years as a police officer and if I had a nickel for everytime I investigated an accident and heard "There I was, minding my own business and all of a sudden a Kangaroo jumped out in front of my car!" LOL Glad you weren't hurt!
They are awesome cars mate I have had my 1998 two years now adore it. They are such a bargain for the money. Any thoughts and questions should check out the 996 Carrera owners club Facebook page there are a few of us Aussie's on there I just made a laundry list of stuff to fix on mine and worked through it been daily driving it for 12 months now. Put 40000 on it in two years keeps on getting better and better.
Do not ever let Mrs. Jeff drive the Alferrari or you will never get the keys back. Glad all are safe. Nice 911. the turbos of that era almost make sense.
Can't believe you passed up the opportunity to get a nice AU Falcon!!
I just don't think I am cool enough :(
More like he didn’t want overheating issues or leaking Power Steering pressure switches!

Hey mate, I had a Roo jump into the front LHS guard of my RS3. $15k damage just for that, but at least my car wasn’t written off. Enjoy the Porsche 😎
I had the same with my A6 Allroad, $15k repair!
So excited for you! I like the headlights as well (my daily is our 996 turbo). You are really going to enjoy this car. Heidi

Absolutly love it!

Glad you weren't hurt in that accident, the new car looks like a fun daily I am sure Mrs Jeff will enjoy it.
I always thought the front on the base car was a bit boring. The turbo looks pretty cool though.

the 996 actually aged gracefully.. beautiful car mate...
Doesnt matter about the Audi just glad you're ok, the new beast looks nice congrats mate.
That front bumper has been painted, did it hit something as well?
Love everything about the 996's except for the slab sides, did you consider a Cayman?
I previously had a Cayman S, so it was time for a 911 ;)
A sad end to the S5. Such a cool car.

Definitely an under dog and I think you made a good choice
everything is reliable when sorted. :/
"YOU KILLED SKIPPY"!!!!!!!!!!!!
"What's that Skip? You've been run over?"
Damn it's beautiful. Congrats!
This is the most Australian thing ever. lol Glad everything worked out.
Shame about the Audi, but it would make a good donor car. ;)

do a back dated conversion on the front?
Haha... ah, no ;)
That same thing happened to me in Los Angeles.
Those damn LA roos ;)

sick car
And that’s the problem with newer cars: minor bingle = big $, rendering them effectively a disposable item. What a rip off!
You should buy back the wrecked Audi ( the owner was a bit dodgy ) and put the motor/trans into a 350Z
Haha. The 350Z is definitely not one of Nissan's pretty cars that deserves attention, and converting it to 4 wheel drive is far too much work ;)

I'm glad it wasn't the Alfa
Here in the uk , german parts prices are off the scale , god know,s where they get the prices from , think they think of a figure and treble it !!!!
