This chap knows as much about bare bow archery, as I do about child birth.

Not to use tips of fingers as it will create more tension in the fingers making the release inconsistent, the hook should be on or just behind the first joint, although you have more fingers holding around the string the hand relaxes better and clears the string cleaner. You should always use finger and arm protection, draw weight on a very small area on the string can cause nerve damage to finger and Bracer protects against failed arrows on release, the arrow and string can do a lot of damage without protection.

Great advice from a real barebow pro.

So then, since this video gets so many views, just for completeness's sake, would you mind adding a quick comment on what the release should then look like, if the fingers are that deeply hooked on the string?
Afaik the fingers aren't supposed to change their grip during release, you should mainly just pull back the hand, right?

@@TheHadMatters an untrained eye wouldn't see any difference. A training method you can use a can of paint with metal handle, hold to the side of your body with fingers on first joint, just to relax fingers. You won't see how it should look but you will understand the feeling better.

Do all barebow target shooters nock it high? I nock my string level with the rest and when I draw I have one finger over and two under. I will try with all three under or maybe play a big with wherei nock the arrow and see if I might end up preferring a higher nock point! XD

If the point of the arrow is flying higher than the rest of the arrow does that mean a low knocking point?

You anchor on the cheekbone, is that with your thumb ? If so your the first I've seen so far, besides myself, that bends back their thumb (like giving a thumbs up sign) to anchor with on the cheekbone.

      Hi Dan,
Thanks for the comment. I actually keep my thumb tight behind my fingers so that the thumb length runs across the cheek rather than it being extended to have only the top touching. My priority is to get the arrow close to my eye so that I’m looking down the shaft rather than across to it. Hope that makes sense? The one thing I’ve learnt teaching archery is that different techniques work for different people so if you are happy with your technique, stick with it!

Your anchor is the most important thing, it is the aquivelant to the but stock going against the shoulder for a rifle. If you want to hit the same place every time u most do the same thing the same way every time. There are several different ways to place the fingers such as split finger, 3 finger under, & drawing to the chest, the split finger being the most common. With split finger the middle finger should come to corner of mouth while corner of jaw should nestle in the crotch or v where thumb joint attaches to hand this give u a constant & familiar anchor every single time.

Sound is terrible. Looks like you need to check your nock placement.

would a nock low initial flight (like video) indicate a too low knock point?

Anchor point has nothing to do with your face.Your “ Anchor” is when your scapula is set & the places on your face are only references!
