    The Schottky Diode is a Freewheel Diode(Flyback diode).
    when the Mosfet inside LM2596 switch Off (No Current is flowing) that means the inductor will generate High voltage around itself and that will cause damage to the components especially LM2596 and the diode will prevent that because it will be in the forward bias and that allows the current to flow through it.

    The diode has the same function of a diode on a basic Buck Converter diagram. It is called a rectifier or a catch diode, it is used to close the loop circuit on the load side to remove the stored energy from the inductor.

    • @accurateapplianceelectroni9703
      @accurateapplianceelectroni9703 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the proper name for the diode is a Schottky Zener Diode. there is no such thing as a "Catch" diode.

    The Shottky diode is to make sure no voltage spikes occur as a result of the inability of a current through an inductor to change instantaneously.

    purpose of schottky diode is to remove reverse current in case of inductor load.

    • @matejsojka6683
      @matejsojka6683 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      actually no... reverse current is how it works. That LM2596 works as a PWM switch from input to output. When it is open it will charge the capacitor and inductor and when it is charged it will just switch off. Feedback is sensing that. When it is switched off output current flows from the chraged inductor through that diode to the output and when the inductor is depleted voltage on output capacitor will go down and via feedback that LM2596 will turn that internal mosfet on.... that diode is mandatory to work... More complicated dc/dc converters are using second mosfet to that diode and that will open when the main is closed to bypass that diode for lower losses and better effenciency. Also need to be said that it is acutally not turn on and off like i said it is actually fixed frequency (higher is better) - what is changing is PWM duty cycle. This chip is running at 150kHz and you can find for the same money 300kHz version from xlsemi.

    Can I connect the OUTPUT 2 pin to something other than the coil? To something that will control the connection between the battery and the coil. Depending on the signal on pin 2, something will connect and disconnect the battery from the coil. Will I achieve, for example, 10A with the LM2596t which has a max of 3A

    I need some help here. I am trying to use this module to make my own RC Nitro car glow igniter. And when I connect the wires to module the glow plug does not ignite and nothing seems to happen. But I measure the voltage at the output in the module and in the glow igniter it reads 1.5 V but when I put a glow plug the output voltage dies.
    Any suggestions what might be the problem.

    Can you please do a follow-up video (or reply here) adding a voltage output limiter (5.1v Zener reference) feedback loop to pin 5 of the 2596 to disable output when the threshold (5.1v) is exceeded. This type of protection would be helpful if only a few components are required.

      @@tomvienna1518 Correct! The guy in the video misinterpreted the coil's smd code, which is 33μH. Not 330!!
      In this coding system, the third number implies the number of zeros following the main value of the coding, consisting of the two initial arithmetical numbers, that is in this case, 33 followed by 0, meaning none zero exists after 33, with the value always being given in μH...

    if you dont know what that SD is for then a video of electronics isnt for you. OUTput is NO AC so there not for filtering. and the top part of your out is Feedback (telling the SMPS the outout power) the SD continues the circuit when the gate is closed or you get a power spike. its also low losses to make the circuit efficient

    I guess watching videos, even as good as yours and others, doesn't ensure success or even an adequate understanding ...
    I'm trying to find a battery power source to power four strobe light units installed on my PARAMOTOR as we fly in often congested airspace. Air Force and civilian aircraft like to fly low over the water just off the beach here in Northern Florida just where we'd like to fly.
    I purchased supposedly 12v truck led strobe light KIT to attach to my frame. I finally got a multimeter this week and measured the demo battery pack that comes in the strobe package (allows strobes to work on the store shelves) and - the batteries were providing 19.5 vdc.
    So these are likely the fairly standard 12-24v LED strobe lights sold everywhere.
    I have a spare 6S LiPo 50C battery pack that provides 22-25.5 vdc so I figured I use this. My plan was to wire up the LM2596 to measure the output voltage and adjust the potentiometer to 19-20 vDC output to test the strobe lights. Input measured 25.1vDC.I put the multimeter leads on the OUT side and made a short piece of twin lead wire connect the IN side and inserted them into the XT60 connector.
    BOOM
    A firecracker went off and the capacitor was gone. I turned the Multimeter on after I inserted the twin wire, don't know if that caused the overload - no load when connected?
    The video said the LM2596 was rated for 30 vDC. A flying buddy offered that perhaps the 6S LiPo's amperage was too much.
    I measured the 6S LiPo and it jumped around but seemed to be between 373 and 420 mA. It's a new Chinese multimeter and I probably don't know how to use it properly.
    The small battery pack seemed to measure between 95 -200 mA when connected and would drop to ZERO when the button was pushed. Not sure I understand that behavior.
    Any comments you'd care to offer to me. I have another spare buck to use but need to figure some other combination to power the strobe lights.

    These modules are so cheap, would it make any sense to use 3 of them to step from 30v to 20v, then 20v to 10v, then 10v to 3v? Wouldn't doing this guarantee much less heating of any particular module? Total cost = $2.37 :) Someone tell me if this is a hair brained idea. Also, if 3 is a good idea, what about 6?

    • @ΠάριςΑζής
      @ΠάριςΑζής 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This kind of technique was used in the past with the analogue regulators, because they had to transform the excess energy in heat, in order to provide the necessary (desired) output regulation. These buck converters are working under the switching regulation principal, which does not suffer of that heating problem. Therefore this solution is not necessary when using buck converters. Of course a good design is always of utmost importance and its price almost always reflects it's quality...

    The value of the inductor is wrong in the drawing. A printing of 330 on the inductor refers to 33uH type. The Schottky diode should be something like an 1N5822/1N5825.

    0:32 "Linear voltage regulator rubbish" Not sure but it sounds like he just insulted every linear IC engineer." Linear IC's are not Rubbish. They are a necessary part of electrical component family. I am offended. Who the hell are you ?
    Many more components in this circuit than in a linear 78XX regulator based circuit which had only three components. I wonder what the output impedance is ? I doubt the DC out , "ripple" is very clean. Guessing about.707 * Zener Voltage. If so then this is very noisy. As current draw increases so should the ripple.
    This circuit is intended for a using with a pure DC (Battery) Source, not a converted AC source.
