This video was quite helpful to me in gaining a basic understanding re: the Yanmar 2GM. I am currently considering the purchase of a boat which has the '83 2GM rated 13HP@3400RPM. I have not yet determined if the engine is raw of fresh water cooled and am curious if the heat exchanger you show and mention in this video was an add on or OEM as I would prefer to use fresh water cooling, if a DIY option exists.
I've been asked a question regarding oil viscosity. In my 5 operational diesel engines (Mercedes, Kubota, Toyota.471 Jimmy etc) I use 15-40 to the exclusion of all others. On Vancouver Island the temperature rarely dips to more than a few degrees below freezing so 15 wt flows well at that temp. In northern Canada/Alaska where winter temps routinely drop to double digits below freezing a thinner viscosity would provide better start-up protection. Remember >80% of engine wear occurs within the first three minutes of starting...........bear
As per video and my best recollections; these two cylinders should idle around 800 rpm. As faster idle will make shifting the marine transmission a bit more difficult and create a higher shock load on propeller as well as internal gears. Not critical I suppose but idling at specification will ensure longest life of components.........bear

Mine idles at about 1.2k do you know if this is normal or can be adjusted?
