The Great Crochet/Knitting Cart Debacle

  • Hello fellow yarn loving friends, today we are going to be answering the age old question of :
    To Craft Cart or Not To Craft Cart! I know this is a hot topic in a sense and that many are die hard cart crafters and there are some of us that see the terms "Craft Cart" and something completely different comes to mind. I think which ever side you stand on you need to be honest with yourself... Is it really working for you? OR is is making you have anxiety❓
    These are the questions I asked myself when I made this video to talk about my own experience. I open up about some struggles that swayed my thoughts on them and I am going to be honest... that is hard for me. I talk about my struggles with my level of OCD that I deal with, the products I choose to keep in my "cart" and how I stay organized in my notebook as well as some of the vital notions I feel I must always have.
    I hope you enjoy sitting in the woods and chatting with me during this morning with me. I also hope you enjoy the story of my Great Craft Cart Debacle and I want to think Caroline from ‪@carolinefortheloveofcrochet‬ for tagging me in her own craft cart video. If you want to talk about your Crochet Craft Cart then please consider yourself tagged and tag me in the video so I can hear about it!

    Do you have a craft cart? Do you use a craft basket? What do you love or hate about it?

      I have a craft caboodle that is actually a cleaning supply holder. It fits all my tools and has 4 slots for items. When I’m on the go I put my wip in a small book bag.

      I use a lot of bags for everything. I love Puff Stitch 1 yarn bags and totes because of the whimsical fabric she uses to make the bags. ❤

    Hi Kim, great to see you outside today, I do not knit, but I do wish to learn someday. I do not have a craft cart at this point, but will also love to have one. I have only been collecting things for about 2 years now, and being on a limited income makes it more difficult to get the things that I really want, so for now I am slowing but surely expanding and getting more and more things that I need to do more creating with. I do appreciate you sharing your love of knitting and all your goodies and things that are awesome to get. Hope you have a blessed rest of your week.

      Thanks for watching Sindy! Yea I have been a knitter and crocheter for over a decade which sounds crazy to me since I never had any desire to do either of them! For me the carts are not worth it, to be honest. I mean we use ours but they are limited, take up space and not really portable. They were great in the younger years of homeschool to house the crayons, glue, construction paper etc that we could push into the laundry room when not in use. As far as crafts I never needed "Everything" at one time anyways, so just using a bag, a box, a basket etc for the project, yarn, pattern, hook/needle with some snips and a darning needle is all I needed. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I'm a basket person! I also use big sturdy bags. When the cart craze started, rolling carts weren't easily found here in South Africa, but baskets are always readily available! I find it so easy to pack a basket for crafting in a coffee shop and when we travel.

    • @yarning4asmile

      Not to mention the baskets are so pretty! I have a few of the small ones that are perfect for socks and that I use for coffee shop like outings too!

    That was fun seeing all the goodies in your basket. I have to use containers that close securely for my projects because of my cats, so backpacks, plastic totes, tins with lids, drawstring bags, things like that. 😸

      What book?? I love books!! Don't get me wrong that first craft cart was my jam for years... until one day I was pushing from the kitchen to the living room and two wheels popped off and everything went everywhere. lol I refused to get rid of it. The bookcase one is the one I was talking about I may spray paint for the studio. I am thinking of setting it or the grey 3 tier as my "Sewing" cart out there so I can push it in the closet when not in use since I do not sew to often but that also could be because I don't have a designated space right now. I saw you were a homeschool family as well. We are on year 8 this fall and I have a 15 (soon to be 16 yr old and a 12 year old). :) Thanks again for the tag and praying y'all have a blessed school week.

      Thank you. It is crazy how loud the guy cutting grass was! He was actually way down the road, and the sound just carries up like crazy. I tried to soften the birds in the background as well. I always worry they are to loud but there is not much I can do to make them quiet down lol.

    We are so much a like it's eery haha. I should have one journal to keep me organized. I'm organized to a fault. I get overwhelmed easily. I do all that you do. My problem is to keep going with my organization. Like I have lots of journals I started. I have notebooks of patterns I've printed off the web. I have a cart that I pushed into my craft room because it became a catchall and got overwhelming. I keep scraps of yarn with the pattern with the yarn label and put them in plastic sleeves and filed away in my 3D ring binders. I also have binders for you tubers I watch and printed out their patterns. Haha. It's organized chaos! I'm just discovered your channel and feel like I found a friend who would get me. And my fav show is Friends haha. It's kismet.

    • @yarning4asmile
      @yarning4asmile  ปีที่แล้ว

      lol I have a video where I show off my binders! I am the same, sometimes my over organization keeps me from relaxing and because I thrive in an organized atmosphere when there is chaos I almost shut down in a sense because of the anxiety. I have 3 craft carts. I use the top of two carts to hold tools and notions. I use the other shelves to hold WIPs in small project bags. My only issue is that I like to make blankets, and only the top shelf can hold a larger blanket project.

    • @yarning4asmile
      @yarning4asmile  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that is hard with those and one of the reasons I went to separate project bags and baskets. I also enjoy blankets and have several planned but it’s so hot here I just think about them

      Has yours gotten better over the years or worse? I think with kids and learning to mediate on mantras has helped mine. My doctor has asked if I wanted to set up an apt to speak to someone about it but I really don't and do not knock anyone who does... I just feel mine are controllable on my own. Although there have been some crazy incidents, like when I was buying groceries and this thought came over me that I left the oven eye on... I knew I did not but it became overwhelming so I had to drive home 20 mins one way to "check" see it was off and then drive 20 mins back to finish buying groceries.. 😒 That was right after my wreck a few years ago so I think that stress was still fresh and played a role in that compulsion. It also flows over on to my videos and this channel... I do stress that the sound is not clear enough, that they have to much this and to much that... that is actually what kept me away from my old channel... but I am trying to work through that. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @LindaSimpson
      @LindaSimpson ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@yarning4asmile Mine has gotten better as I have gotten older, I think life in general taught me that what will be will be, I didn't want to speak to anyone either, no shame in those who do, I was nowhere near as bad as some people and my heart goes out to them. Being married to Rick, who is so laid back, he is almost horizontal LOL has been a big help and support too. In the beginning I was very stressed out with my videos, now, it is what it is, there are worse videos out there and we can only do what we can in the time we have set aside to make our videos, I am more nervous doing my lives, but I am getting better. You just be you Kim, you will get there, don't stress over the little things. Big hugs xxx

      Mrs Linda, I hope you are enjoying your time off. I know you may not see this reply. I honestly just found out how to sort comments to replies from my replies... so this is a bit delayed but I appreciate you sharing that with me. I have been trying to be mindful when feelings like that come up with this channel and just step away for a few days when they do.
      I am big into refocusing and have been trying to replace negative feelings with activities that bring joy. This morning I woke to seeing this video Mikey from Crochet Crowd put out.. and my heart dropped for him, and BOD had a similar video a while back. There is so much pressure as a creator... but there is a lot of joy too, again thank you for sharing and I am sorry in the delay of my response.
