you are ready for the next step Tommy. Your riding is fine and your commentary on road position and observations show you are in control. I did my bike direct access bike test at 52, the next day I bought a Suzuki bandit 650. That was fun 🙂
I think it is getting that way. I've still only managed about 250 miles since my MOT so I'm still very much a beginner but I do think I have taken to it quite well! That sounds like a fun bike 🤩
Thank you, I found it very useful. I was actually amazed how much progress I had made. It is so much more natural now, despite only cramming in about 250 miles in 5 months!
Video like these really help very new riders over the first few months as they helped me alot The concern of stalling is something I struggled with for the first 2 months so your definitely not alone on that and gripping the throttle too tightly after I learnt to relax everything got easier Soon as you learn to relax and loosen up, clutch and throttle control is almost second nature you will still make plenty of mistakes and it's a learning curve for many of us new riders but that's a normal thing so don't worry Keep it up man
Hey, thanks I'm glad you have found them useful. Everyone goes through the same teething problems. Like you say it starts to get better and more enjoyable when you start to relax a little. Thanks for watching! 😀
Recently made the jump from 125 (van van) to a big bike (nc750) .. kinda miss the ease and lack of faff of a small bike. I don't think it matters what you ride tbh, as long as you're enjoying yourself.
You’re doing a great job Tommy. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. Just found your channel, subscribed and currently binge watching all the vids. Stay safe out there and best of luck.
My other half was a motorbike courier for 24 years and he says if you don't have apprehension getting on to your bike there's something wrong. Appreciate that you are on 2 wheels and you could die around the next corner or be seriously hurt, it's not to be taken likely. I'm 53 years old and first thing I did after getting on my bike was to take out life insurance ( which I never had before) I also included private healthcare on my bike insurance in case of an accident. I had a near miss today, merc van on my side of the road after a bend, luckily I had good reflex and brakes. If you have a family, think about insurance.
I bet your other half has seen it all then. Glad you had lightning fast reflexes, it is a shame that you have to worry so much about what other road users are doing. I got decent life insurance when I bought my first house, all covered as you never know what is round the corner as you rightly point out.
"A million things going through my head" 🙃Oh Boy ! Ireally relate to that😬 Because I have to remind my brain every time I have a Motorcycle Lesson to Stop thinking all negative thoughts and get into a "I Can Do This" attitude or, even better "I've Got This" frame of mind😎 You will find when you start your Mod 1 training, that most 650cc bikes that Training schools use, will pull away from a dead stop on tickover🙂 So stalling at junctions is a lot less likely to happen to you🙂 I am curremyly doing my Mod 1 training using the training school's sole 650cc Suzuki and that will do about 7mph on tickover in first gear🙂 The Suzuki also has a lower centre of gravity compared to the 650cc 4 cylinder Hondas that most riders use for Mod 1 & 2 at the training school I am using🙂
@@TwoWheelsTommy Passed my MOD 1 0n 30th April🙂 MOD 2 set for 20th May😎 I reckon you might find a couple of 1 to 1 lessons on a 650 will be a good idea before signing up for a full DAS course and that will let you try some different 650's to see how they suit you from a riding position point of view🤔 I was surprised how many of the modern 650's have a cramped riding position with your legs angled back similar to racing bikes😶
Nice one! May 20th will come round quick enough - good luck 🚀 That is a good point, they have a Honda Hornet, and some CB650R's which don't look too bad 👌
@@TwoWheelsTommy Thank You🙂 If I bought a Honda I would buy the CMX1100 or 500 because with their mid position footpegs they would be much more comfotable for cruising and long distance Touring🙂
Nice work Jon, the fun begins now! Better weather is just around the corner (Ironically it just started raining as I type this!). Thanks for watching 👌
Good look on your journey I did mine in January £175 so you got a bargain not long till the good whether comes now so we can get some lovely long rides in and just disappear for the day think it will be good experience and a grate way to continue learning
You have so much fun on your 125, I picked up a Honda Grom for more "daily" type riding. It's a lot of fun, but you have to ride with the throttle pinned most of the time to keep up with traffic - and it still reports 120 mpg.
I don't know how you can do so few miles as a newbie !! when i got my first bike i enjoyed it so much i didn't wanna get off it, and now i've got a bigger bike and a full licence still pretty much don't, it's too addicting for me haha. GL
I hear you! I can't get enough of it but I have a lot of time constraints sadly what with running my business, lookjng after my little lad, and renovating our new house. Summer should be more fruitful, particularly July/august as I won't have to fanny about with bloody school runs 🤣
@@TwoWheelsTommyknow what u mean, i run my own business too, as well as grandparent duty 3 days a week, and sods law says it always seems to be the nicest weather when i can't get out lol, but i've turned into a constant weather forecast checker so manage to get out whenever possible, and as the daughter in law is a teacher, school hols is my best time too !!. GL
@Bob-ts2tu Yes! Exactly this! Easter holidays coming up which will afford me longer days at work (I keep my bike at work) as I won't have to mess about with school runs. This will definitely allow me more time for riding. On the other hand, my wife also works full time so I will have to take my lad to work with me some days which slows me down. Can't win! Sam can get the bus to school after next summer and I will be taking full advantage of that when the time comes 😁
I was going to visit IoW and have a tour about... but after watching your wonderful productions, I think I've been there already! 😁 Would you, when convenient, would you do a lap of the proposed Diamond Course? I had hoped to visit a couple years back, but the races didn't materialize. Again, thanks Mr . T... (I think you'd be just fine on a 600!)
Haha there is loads more to see, you should visit! I'll be going further afield when the weather improves. That would be a good idea, I'll have a look and figure out what route it was due to take. 👍
You're really feeding my desire for a cb125f! Don't know how I can persuade my wife and kids to let me have one though! It's really fun watching your films and enjoying your rides! 👍😃 I've never driven a motorbike, but really want to!
Hey Sam, good! I can relate to this, I have always wanted to ride a motorcycle and kick myself for not doing it in my 20's. I mentioned it to my wife a few years ago and got shot down in flames, you know the old 'they're dangerous', 'you have a young child', 'what a waste of money' etc - you know the drill. All fair enough of course. What you need to do is make it sound like a good idea that benefits everyone. Fast forward a few years and fuel costs shot up etc so all of a sudden having a (much more) economical mode of transport starts to seem like a good idea! Drop some seeds, point out how much time someone is saving when they filter past you in traffic etc.... Worth noting you are an adult so you can make your own decisions and your wife should respect that. But partners can dig their heels in so tread carefully - you know their limits 🤣 In the end I told my wife I was going on a motorcycle taster session, and came home having passed my CBT. You shouldn't have to do this stuff, but you gotta do, what you gotta do. Good luck, let me know how you get on 💪😀
Book yourself a CBT, you will find out pretty quickly if its for you. Then the look of joy on your face will convince the wife and kids that you too should have a CB125F ;-)
the saying that you only truly regret the things you didnt do is pretty apt here. you're probably old enough to have more sense than a kid who thinks they are invincible, so as long as you don't do anything stupid you will be ok. You ride to live, not die lol, and doing a long ride in the country on a sunny day is a real joy, so at least give it a go and like most of us who started later in life you will probably wish you started sooner.
I remember my first solo ride out, i was shit scared, one thing i haven't done much is riding in the dark, that's a different ball game, i was going to do my full license this year, but unfortunately i cant, so ive had to book my 2nd CBT in may, its hard to believe it's been 2 years ive been riding, where has that time gone.
I was the same. I had so much dread but it actually turned out ok, as I'm sure 99% of first rides do. I was very glad it was over though 🤣 The time does fly, it feels like I only did my CBT last month.
Whoever designed it needs to give their head a wobble. I literally sat in traffic for 10-15 minutes the other day whilst recreating my CBT ride (See other videos!). Who designs a roundabout that bottlenecks traffic trying to leave a town. If you see me out there give me a nod 💪 You saying my videos have kinda ASMR vibes? 😀
If you haven't already done so Tommy it might be worth buying a copy of Motorcycle roadcraft: the police rider's handbook. Across the country there is also a training course run by police riders called Bike Safe. It is worth doing. It's used by all the emergency services and forms a key reference for riding instructors
Thanks for the reminder, I was meant to get this for my birthday but my wife forgot. It still hasn't materialised so I'll give her a nudge 🤣 I have looked into Bike Safe, sadly the nearest place that does it is in Sussex so that will have to wait.
Hi Tommy lad, I thought you did better on your first run, I'm only joking isn't it funny how a little experience goes a long way. I am from an age when You bought the bike and off you go no instructions. Thankfully it is a bit more structured now.Anyway well done now get your test done 😂. On a completely different note what is the drone camera you use. I am looking at getting one but don't won't to spend stupid money any advice appreciated. Take care Tommy Lad and ride safe as always. Alright Dale, it is a close-call between the two I reckon 🤣 My Dad was the same, he had to ride around the block and do an emergency stop when he got back to the instructor to get a pass. I'm gonna ramp up progress now, just one small work project slowing me down at the minute preventing me from preparing for my theory in the evenings. Should be good to go in a weeks time 💪 I'm using a DJI MIni 4 Pro, but not in this video. The following shots were recorded on an Insta360 X3 👌 Ride safe yourself 😀
