Every judge knows these cops are out there fishing for money and the damage it does with the Insurance Cartel in charge is out of proportion with the alleged wrongdoing.

@23:44 ~ Seems like this lawyer was afraid to ask for dismissal. Maybe he’s too nice or he’s just not used to judges being willing to dismiss over technicalities. I don’t know. But the other lawyers were ready to ask for dismissal if somebody coughed at the wrong time. Lol. And it seemed like the judge basically had to beg this lawyer to ask for dismissal.

Only for a mandatory court appearance ticket where you were released at the scene. And it has to be the officer's neglect, you outright refusing to sign will be a separate criminal charge.

LOL, I motioned to dismiss my parking ticket in Seattle (head-in parking in a back-in parking space) because the parking enforcement officer was not present. The judge refused to dismiss - I was given a $10 discount in exchange for waiting 3 hours in the courthouse lobby.

Do established lawyers want to be traffic lawyers, Do they just do it for the extra money, or do they do it because they were unsuccessful other places so had to do the easiest type of law? I’m not asking this to be nasty or anything whatsoever, I’m just really curious. It’s not like my career is any more prestigious than theirs, I’m not even a lawyer so they have me beat already. I’m just really curious. Does anybody know?

    • @JD-dz9lx

Great question! I’m an employment attorney and I’ve been practicing three years, so I can only give my personal observations. Most of the lawyers I know do it for extra money, or they do it because they have a client that they’re handling a non-traffic matter for (immigration, employment, other criminal), and that same client also needs help with a traffic ticket. However, I do know some lawyers who only do traffic tickets. In that case, that lawyer will go to court and handle several tickets and charge maybe $250 a pop. If the lawyer’s got 10-20 tickets, they could be making $2500-$5000 a day… and it probably wouldn’t take all day to get those tickets taken care of, especially if they know what they’re doing as far as the law and negotiations and their relationship with the ADA’s and judges go.

I was really surprised to see in Broward County, our citations are handled by a hearing officer versus a judge. They only earn $80/2 hour session which isn't very much. I can't imagine they are very invested in that role. It concerns me that an actual judge won't hear my case.
