That is one mother of a graphics card. And the addon-thingy that lets you control everything is super cool. I wish we could have that for every card :(
There is an LCM connector at the bottom right, i assume LCM_5v is for some kind of silly RGB lighting they did not want to load down the main rail or fill with noise or whatever "Lighting control module" or something like that why they would give a tap for it i have not the slightest
“A lot of times I get pictures which are completely useless to me”. Shots fired Steve, up your PQ game. Jokes aside, low volume cars are even worse, having the 2nd biggest purchase of your life be sold for thousands over sticker just because you’re an enthusiast and the manufacturer decides to make low numbers just for enthusiasts, and naturally you’re already paying a premium to the manufacturer for this, then the dealer decides its markup time as well and suddenly a pricey but excellent value proposition becomes a damn near $100,000 Ford Mustang and nobody wants to play that game
Actually Hardcore Overclocking yea that’s always been clear, you usually clarify the photos are better than usual from GN as well, just couldn’t help but imagine some would be sure to take it as juicy “youtuber drama”. They even have channels dedicated to that it’s crazy.
I agree with the 12GB Titan Xp vs 11GB RTX2080ti price tags, I work with Iray sometimes and that gig of memory means a lot to me, lol. As for the missing memory chip on 80ti PCBs, As Steve (Gamers nexus) started to note, various chips had a digit in the ID on the GPU die model number that indicated what memory chip controller was disabled in the GPU die, that corresponded to different chip pads on the PCB. adding the memory chip would do nothing as the controller is laser cut in the GPU to disable it. In this example, I will guess the 'A1' refers to the M11 memory chip that is missing, tho it could be the 'K1' designation, too lazy to go hunt down the Ask GN that was in.
Its not just a mem controller that is disabled but an entire SM... Maybe a Titan card will come with all SMs enabled??? Im not so sure on that myself but we can all wish right?
Ben Quigley I would be very surprised if they don't come out with a Titan RTX at some point. With 4608 CUDA cores, 12GB GDDR6 and a 384 bit memory bus. Basically the full TU102. With the 2080Ti FE being $1200, I think it's reasonable to expect around $2000 or more for the Titan.
could be ... for example my gtx 780 lightning has got some led`s for indicating work on every single phase and it has got about 6 or 8 phases wich were run in 2d mode and the rest is waken up in 3d mode by the controller
Do you ever sing praise to anything without an asterisk? :D Great video as always. Keep those manufacturers honest. That card is one sexy thing, too bad the rest of us are stuck with black, papery-looking PCBs. At least they aren't green anymore.
Looks more like a flexible V_core VRM that could be run in double-stuffed 8 phase or doubled-up "16" phase modes depending on how the PCB is outfitted in production, with this model foregoing the doublers and running in 8 phases. Maybe Galax will do a run with doublers for the competition cards?
my idea about these weird Phasecounts.. 16 Phases, 3 connectors+pcie. let's assume that "up to" 4 are on the PCIE, and "up to" 4 of the others hanging of each 8 Pin. the Controller is seeing 8 Phases, but there is other Chips around the board which can "cut" the 5V to some phases to disable them. Why? if you are close to hitting one of the Power Limits on one of the 12V inputs, you can disable one of its phases and activate another one which gets the same PWM, but draws the power from somewhere else.
Required card for entry into overclockers carnival this year......only 100 made 😒 Um, yeah , so I'm going to go out on a limb amd say there was some picking and choosing of who was allowed to buy one first.
Next best card after this will probably be the NVidia Titan RTX. TechPowerUp has the Titan RTX with 12 GB of GDDR6 and is listed as 18% faster than the NVidia 2080 RTX Ti. Release date might be Q1 2019 and expect $3000 Titan V prices. That's another card that Buildzoid would love to do a PCB review on I am sure.
This might be an extreme long shot but I have this card and it died about 2 years ago. Died in the sense of : It boots, the GPU bios message shows, but I have artifacts (horizontal intteruppted lines). I have now taken the card apart ,and al of its thermic pads were fully dusted, I am ordering replacements at the moment but wanted to ask : Anything else I should look for on this card ?
What do they put on top of the VRM as far as thermal transfer? I see it on my cards. Its not thermal pads and it's not exactly thermal paste. Whatever it is? , it is more spongee than thermal paste.
Hi there Buildzoid! Is there a reason gpu manufacturers don't use solid state capacitors instead of electrolytic capactors? Is it mainly a cost thing or are there some other reasons?
Actually Hardcore Overclocking thank you very much! I was watching your pcb analysis of the msi gtx 1070ti gaming and heard that the capacitors were of unknown origins. You guessed that the capacitors might only be rated for 2k hours, so I was thinking, maybe I can have them replaced with better capacitors.
I have one of these works of art... I think I have all KFA2/Galax HOF cards ever made. Now, the world is a funny place, isn't it? When I received the bill for the card, far before receiving the card, everyone was telling me how expensive it was... Go figure, the Strix is now at the same price and Amazon is selling the FE for £1499. How things change, turns out it was cheap. Now to get my hands on the KingPin, the way MSI has been going lately, I don't think I'll bother with the Lightning, which would be a shame since I also own all the Lightning cards.
Hey buildzoid, if my card has a 5+1 phase controller, but vcore only have 4 phase. There is actual spacing for the phase, so if I successfully put a powerstage onto the space, will the controller auto detect it and run it as 5 phase instead of 4? Or the controlling scheme has already be configured, so the extra powerstage wont do anything there.
Any info about the memory config on the FE edition 2080ti, i hear there is a huge faliure rate on the cards and people are thinking its memory, have you heard anything about this or what might be causing it?
the connector on the top edge of the PCB (between the GPU and the display plugs), is the NvLink thing. Not really NvLink as most of it is disabled on the non-Quadro/non-Tesla cards, tho apparently it's the replacement for SLI, supposedly. SLI is not on the RTX2070 unlike the GTX1070, so who knows what else Nvidia is gimping this time with SLI support. The other thing on the PCI bracket with the twisted wires going to it, is just a button thing, "HyperBoostX" whatever that is, guessing to control fan speeds or Bios (Primary/secondary) select switch.
I'm just going to say this once so: I FKING LOVE YOU. I learn so much with you. Continue with the great job. PS: You could do a budget motherboard that I would buy it xD. Try to get some brand to construct it :).
Question? Is Galax a typo or is that a name change from Galaxy? Because I know of Galaxy very well and I even have a 9800GT Galaxy card, but not once heard of Galax? before this video.
Cheers. I guessed pretty close. This must of happen between last time I was seriously interested in PCs and recently where I have picked up again. I dropped off around 200 series and picked back up at pascal.

if you think of radiation then - no. It's purely aesthetics, the nice touch is the marking on all of the SMD on the card and being on white background, real easy to read that.
It makes me feel better as the galax HOF isn't as epic this time. Because It' was almost impossible to get this card imported to my country back in 1080 HOF and Ti HOF era and that made me really really. After current stock issues which made the strix unavailable in country for another 3 months, I am a bit glad that I went with this ugly AF zotac amp card. Hope it will last for a good amount of time. The temp seems solid at least
Easy my friend. This is Nvidia being greedy, they first built them with 12 but then they thought naa, no one will notice. No for real, it is because of the PCB and the components of the 2080ti and Titan RTX are nearly the same, they just leave some components out and deactivate some parts on the chip itself. In this case, the titan actually has 24gb, with one ram chip holding 2gb, while the 2080ti just gets 11 1gb chips. So the place for the chip is used in Titan/Quadros. Nvidia also produces the same Turing chip for them and then tests each one to determine its quality. If its the best it will be a titan or Quadro, if it's usable it will be a 2080ti and Nvidia deactivates the bad parts. This is actually an industry standard and also happens at Intel or AMD(don't know with them though). Intel will just deactivate bad cores, for example, it is not anymore an 8core chip but a 6core chip(maybe it would go from the i7 lineup to the i5). And here I am again, not completely off topic but well. I hope I could help you, if you have more Questions, just ask :)

LCM = Liquid Crystal Matrix. The card have display for the readings.
Oh! I was guessing Liquid Cooling Module, but I was wondering why would they run it on 5v instead of 12v. Well, that makes sense!

Is there something special about those chokes I don’t see them very often. They look like an interesting design
the white PCB looks nice
Another 2080 Ti that isn't available.
Where n when can I buy this?
They were already made available for sale and have already sold out.
With only 100 made you liked needed to know someone who knows someone to ever have a chance, these never came to Newegg for example.

@@Zarcondeegrissom the wires connector, the lever
yeah, HyperBoostX button, I will guess it switches to a higher boost clocked bios. It's a good question, what the hell is "HyperBoostX"?
on the 1070 HOF the switch just turns up the fans to 100% , it doesnt change the gpu clock . I dont think its different on this card
the funny thing, i think this card comes by default with a waterblock and with a ln2 container as an option
Any chance we'll get a look at the EVGA 2080Ti's?
man this thing is just flat out beautiful! it's so dumb that nvidia doesn't allow partners to make titans.
Why is the pcb white? is there any use from that or its just for the bad looks?
16Phases... But does it give 16times the detail in 76?

Couldn't it be eight shared phases? Maybe the other two are unused or used in some other way. No idea why they would do that. I'm just wondering.
