Joshua is one sneaky, unscupulous bastard... But the logic he used in his one last challenge was kind of interesting. Basically in either possible outcome Neku would win in one way or another; shoot and kill Joshua and, yeah, Neku would (theoretically) become Composer and Shibuya would be his to decide what to do with... But he would also be murdering his partner in cold blood (even assuming Joshua would die in the first place) and it would ultimately leave Neku worse than when he began.
Spare him instead, and it creates a rather interesting point in the back of Joshua's mind... In his view, Neku basically began his twisted game as the worst living person in all of Shibuya; stiff, downright rude, and bearing a cold disregard for pretty much everyone else around him. If that person had the capacity to change for the better, then so does everyone else. Kitaniji ultimately succeeded in what he set out to do, albeit a little too late to live to see it.

@@TheRezro Secret Reports said he would destroy just the UG and nothing would happen to the RG. But since he didn't destroy UG Shibuya at the end of the game, then the UG is still ok.
@@rosefaetum Did I miss something? He said that if he win (what he did) then he would finish his plans. So why he didn't? I though that they in fact were given another chance in RG (it is why Shiki is her real self), as existence of UG wasn't really anyone business. Whole reason why he end UG was because he concluded that there are no irredeemable people, and so selection didn't really serve purpose. Though I could be incorrect. It is how I did see those events.
Apparently, Neku's entry fee for that last game was the bullet in his gun. So actually, Neku couldn't have won unless he was able to get Joshua's gun -- but Neku obviously didn't see through this trick, so that wouldn't have really even been an option.
The worst living person in shibuya would be a criminal, not liking people doesn't put you in the top 100,000 worst people in shibuya

Most of the missing lore is in the Secret Reports. To get those, you need to replay the game and do secret objectives. Every day has a Secret Report, they are written by... a certain character I won't spoil. But if you don't wanna bother doing that (I won't blame you lol), just look them up, they answer lots of questions.
There is still some stuff you can do. In Another Day, if you go to Pork City (the place where you fight Sho on Week 2 Day 7), there is an ultimate boss you can fight at the top. I won't spoil who it is, but I'm sure you're gonna like it. Also, still in Another Day, go to Molco > Dogenzaka > Shibuya River to find out what happened to Joshua after Sho blew up at the end of Week 2.
And then there's A New Day, which is the new content exclusive to the Switch version. To unlock that you need to find and fight the 3 purple reapers. There is one of them in every day 7.
I don't know if you're gonna record that, but regardless of that this series was awesome to watch from start to finish! You definitely earned a subscriber. :p

Little interesting note for people, if you go back to play the first day when you're by the dog statue looking for a partner, Shiki, you can actually see Joshua just standing there. Keeping an eye on Neku.

Joshua healed the final boss because you didn't activate his fusion command. It's not explicitly explained in Final Remix. If you didn't tap for Shiki or tap and drag for Beat, they would have also healed the boss. Joshua's fusion activation is a downward slash.
Also, this is not the finale. ;)
Wow... just wow... this game has legitimately changed my life, watching you play it alongside it is definitely gonna become a core memory. Johne, remember this:
Things might change, and people will come and go, but the ones that matter to you the most will keep going back to see you and hang out with you, it might not be as frecuent as you or them would like, but both will do a lot to keep together
Also it is a wonderful world, where you can meet all kinds of people, and if you want to talk (or anyone reading this random comment) feel free to do so, there will always be people who will care for you, even if you don't know, and will be there for you when you need help

If we were to compare the three characters: Megumi, Minamimoto, and Neku, they follow paths similar to the Law, Chaos, and Neutral routes of SMT respectively. Joshua served as an antagonist to all of the Players as he was banking on Nihilism until Neku proved him wrong.
The last “game” was meant to be a test to see how much Neku changed as a person and how much he broadened his view of Shibuya, and ultimately, the world.
And seeing as how Shibuya still exists, Neku succeeded.
Basically. It was in fact quite clever adaptation of this concept.

Edit: Wow, so happy you caught on at the end of the video! What you said is literally what the creators were trying to convey. I'm happy you were able to find out how Joshua felt after the ordeal. If you want to know more about the game and more details that'll patch up all the holes n' stuff, read all the Secret Reports! Anyways, I applaud you buddo.

Joshua is clear Lucifer type character. I mean one made properly, not mistaken with Satan who is in fact his archenemy.
@@TheRezro I think he deserves a good ol' decking in the face, but I can see how he could see people as un-amazing, since he was lonely all his life and never had friends; much like Neku. But he changed as well, which is what Johne noticed as well. Him being a "satan" character isn't *too* accurate, but I see where you're coming from.
@@rosefaetum Megami is Satan, as arbiter of blind justice (despite what most people think Satan still serve God, seducing wicked in order to punish them) and as I said they are in fact political enemies as Lucifer (or specifically Raziel) is savior of Fallen (humanity). Despite his trolish behavior Joshua (who clearly isn't a human) never have bad intentions.
i guess there won't be many people who would find my comment useful but that won't stop me
before i start i would like to say that i really enjoyed your playthrough (that's how i found your channel!), that i would really like to see you getting the switch ending and that another day and secret reports are something that's worth seeing for yourself (for different reasons though lol)
so it all began when joshua and megumi both realised that shibuya has gone corrupted - not by itself, but because of the people (such as makoto on 2n week for example) - and decided to deal with it. while joshua intended to just annihilate it with all the residents, megumi, whose love for everything in shibuya was so deep, suggested to decide its fate with the game
for the game joshua picked the most cut off, nihilistic and misanthropic person he could find except for himself - neku. he made this choice keeping in mind the possibility that if even such person can change towards better than there's hope for the rest of shibuya - and that's exactly what happened in the end.
remember how on 1st week neku almost killed shiki in rather cold blood just to get this over with? by the end of the game he couldn't even bring himself to kill joshua because of how much he started caring for other people and his partners specifically. and in my opinion, joshua made everything he could to make neku hate him so there would be a better chance of him shooting in the end (e.g. being a real douche, even though we know he's more than that, pulling that twist in the end of the 2nd week, supporting his emo phases (when neku was all like "people can keep their gardens/worlds to themselves" and stuff) and picking neku of all people to begin with). (i also have a theory that if neku did shoot joshua he would've just confirmed his believes about the inability for people to change and end shibuya anyway but well, that's just my speculation).
also i don't think he violated the rules because he didn't intend to fight megumi himself, i think he was trying to make neku find and fight him in his stead as a proxy that neku was. and he didn't really did anything to disrupt the game other than that, and even that was what all the players kind of tried to do
there is also a detail on joshua picking neku, at a glance, neku doesnt appear to be someone capable of winning the game, proven back at week 1 almost screwing himself and shiki over, but even so, he ended beating everyone on its path, seeing in a way, joshua was also doubtful of his choice, as in it wouldnt been hard for him to lose at that point, joshua picked him as a way to see if his insecurities were right or not
Johne You ain't done yet, story wise Do the corrupt guys on day 7 of each week, you will unlock the final ending.
There's also an extra story featuring an alternate reality, with a secret boss at the top of Pork City, warning All of this extra stuff can get really hard or tricky, be aware.

@@jsrhedgehog9981 So if I have to be honest, yes and no, the secret day content at the very end explains a bit of why some things are going on, but I don't think it's required and will be explained if you have never touched the added day content from Final Re:Mix.

MANN I loved watching this gameplay so much TToTT !! Just the artstyle, the characters, and the music.. it's all so good!! I honestly didn't think I'd like it that much, but now it's one of my comfort games. I'm definitely gonna consider getting the game for myself one day. Thank you Johne for providing such a wonderful gameplay!!

In case you still don't know, what happened at the end was, because Neku didn't shoot the gun at Joshua during that stand-off, Joshua noticed that Neku has changed, became a better person, and wasn't selfish. As a result, Joshua decided that Shibuya should continue on after all. He brought everyone back to life and fixed everything.
I know you're already playing the sequel but I think you should've played "A New Day." It's an additional episode added to the Switch version of this game and has important events that ties into NEO.

Thanks for playing this game blind as a BAT! For me, it's more entertaining to see/hear your surprise reactions to the story and characters! So much emotions and hilarity. Ahh, good times. I don't really care about the gameplay, tbh. You can suck at the gameplay as much as you want and I'll still watch the playthrough, as long as you don't rush playing the game and the plot is interesting. Your voice acting is TOP NOTCH! Even when the plot *THICKENS* or there's a twist that catch you off-guard, you still managed to stay in-character for the person you're voicing! That takes serious skills in my book! XD
The final battle in the ds version once the fusions start to apear,the upper screen serves to multiply your damage to defeat the boss beacuse you do almost no damage...so your partners are giving you the strenght to defeat kitaniji,
I dunno if you understand what i write upthere hehe...
Anyways thanks for giving this awesome game a chance!

This game has a big impact on the way I view life. At the beginning I was like Neku at the beginning of the game and as Neku grew as a person I also started to grow as a person. And a lot of the things Joshua said I agree with so I was able to equally relate to them and love them both. Also I think “Trust your partner” is going to stick with me the rest of my life. And I constantly hear Joshua saying “Neku I thought you couldn’t afford to loose, give up on yourself and you give up on the world”. This game has also helped me understand why I should keep living.
HERE IT COMES, emotional episode. I was just checking your channel to see if it happened and I lucked out it was 2 minutes ago since you posted this. Also I like this fight way more on DS, basically there's a light puck system where you and your partner pass a bonus damage puck between each other and it gives you a damage multiplier on the character that has it. And has this boss goes further each of your partners trapped on the top screen increases your damage multiplier, and you deal more and more damage to the boss.
I love this game so much, i found this game in middle school when my best friend move away, i was always shy and depended on him. This game and its simple message stuck with me- My world ends with me and i can only grow through interacting with the world and other people. This game is so beautiful and im so happy you got something out of it.

To use everyone's Fusion Attacks against Draco Cantus, you need to use their action (tap for Shiki, drag for Beat, slash downward for Joshua). Otherwise, Draco Cantus will heal some HP. In the DS version, one of them would occasionally flash, and you'd have to press the corresponding direction on the + Control Pad to boost Neku's light puck (which gives him more power).

I'm trying hard not to cry. This is so beautiful. My heart feels for these characters. The idea of Neku having to fight and fight and fight, just to see the one day where it finally gets good... and when it finally came, it's too close to home... god bless you and this game
I think that Joshua picked Neku, because if he could go through Shibuya's worst and prevail, then Shibuya would be saved on Megumi's end of the deal (despite not doing so himself). This is a cool game.
(as in if Neku can, then without a reasonable doubt Shibuya was salvagable? And so Joshua rebuilt Shibuya from scratch, but as a restoration)

Thanks for the let’s play! I would’ve never even heard of this game, much less played it without your vids, which is sad because this was a beautiful game. One of few single player game’s story in recent years that kept me interested and intrigued from start to end!
It is quite hard to not know this game considering that it has crossover with Kingdom Hearts in Dream Drop Distance.

I’m pretty sure the only thing Joshua has to do with the biblical Joshua is the name Joshua, which comes from the hebrew words YWHW and «to save». Jesus is a modernized form of Yeshua, which is more or less a variaton of the same name.
There are definetly some parallels between Megumi and Satan, but he also seems to have some similarities to Prometheus.
All in all though, I would recommed reading the secret reports, which explain alot about the RG, UG, «the fallen angel(!)», Sho, Joshua and especially Mr.H.
Because Sho literally can take Joshua’s place as composer, I would say that its more «polytheistic» though- it’s unclear whether Joshua/ the Composer (as far as I can remember) is the highest of the angels.
Basically. But for reminder people tend to forget that God the Father, Christ and Holly Spirit are avatars of the God, not god in straight sense. So it isn't contradictory.
Yeah, I remember really liking this game back when I first played it about a decade ago. I first picked it up because the 'control two characters at the same time' gimmick sounded interesting, but I stayed with it because it was just... good. Very good.

Congrats on completing the game! It's one of my favorites and used to be my all time favorite. So glad it got the switch port. Also I don't know if you were planning on covering the post game but I would highly recommend doing so. There's loads of new stuff to do including bonus chapters, battles, and alllll the secret reports. The switch version adds a whole new bonus chapters that I can't say much on myself (as I haven't played the switch version) but trust me the post game is totally worth doing

Aw man this was so good! It’s always so hard to part with a story you’ve become fond of...
You know in a way TWEWY has kind of a similar message with P4. That we all need bounds in our lives. We can't grow without forming bonds and clashing with other ideals. It's the bounds we form with people that we can find new ways to be ourselves
I think I’m beginning to understand the outcome of that final game.... it never occurred to me before, but I did run into a video saying that “trust your partner” might have played a role in Joshua’s final decision. Choosing not to shoot was probably the correct answer, but damn it’s real painful to not even know if that’s the right way. I hope I can get a complete understanding reading through the secret reports again

TheRezro yeah I had a very vague understanding before, 2013 was when I first saw and I thought he just changed his mind at the very last second after seeing Neku’s tears, but nah my prepubescent mind didn’t see the deeper meaning behind it

God this was such a wonderful lp to watch. Ive seen the game on both systems and know like all the lore for it and it was so cute seeing someone experience it for the first time is so amazing.
If you didn't I def recommed getting the secret reports and do "another day" and "a new day" cause it goes more into Joshuas motives and everything and clears alot of stuff in general. Cause, without spoiling, Joshuas motives for what he did are super depressing and while I will never justify them. Add alot of depth to his character and easily make him my favorite.

How'd that work out for you?
Johne, if you want to understand the rest of the game get the secret archives. You can get it completing side quests in every chapter in the game. Once you do that and beat the secret boss in the extra day (the tin pin day) you unlock the secret ending which complements the game.
If you are too lazy to do that just look for the archives on internet, see the secret boss and see the secret ending. They are quite a thing.
I miss the original credit theme from the ds version, this theme is still pretty good. On to the bonus day I hope... Its hilarious 😂
Oh one thing I just learned today, feel rediculous, if you go back to Day 6 on week 3, because you did not do Reaper Creeper, you Unlocked Shadow Ramen, You can get some neat stuff, but it's pricey and If you go there on Day 6 week three, you get a special item... That's all I'll say about that.
Lol, I had the same reaction to the ending that you had when I played it: Not sure I get it, but touched regardless. (I also have the same theory about it as you do. I haven't played the extra content yet.) Great LP, thank you!

nice job I recommend doing all the secret reports if you plan on starting the post game and another day is good if you need to do any shopping but yeah there's still some story after you beat the game if you look for it
