- In our final video, we put all the prior videos to work in a charcoal and graphite pencil. I'll walk you through creating a detailed portrait of a young girl is demonstrated, focusing on key techniques and tools. We start with General's charcoal pencil and the importance of selecting the right hardness for different parts of the drawing.
You'll see a little bit on techniques for drawing eyes are shown, including how to leave highlights and blend areas to achieve depth and realism. These methods are then applied to other facial features, such as nostrils, lips, and shadows, with emphasis on controlling contrast and softness using a stump for blending as we go through the video.
We'll focus throughout the video on varying mark-making to add texture and depth, using an eraser to create fine lines, and adjusting the composition to refine details. The video also explores historical art concepts like the "checkerboard" technique, which influences movement and balance within a composition. The process involves balancing different elements of the drawing, ensuring highlights and shadows are effectively rendered to bring the portrait to life. We hope you enjoy.
NOTE: Bear with me 3/4 the way through the video, the camera man had a small filming glitch. :)
