It was awesome dude, just mega updrage a curado or scorpion 70.. maybe got a better choise even? Like a 50 size spool and maybe even up bearings? Scorpion plus a 50 spool seems golden already
Very nice results, thanks for this video. I've suspected many tackle manufactures harm themselves shipping the original bearings with too much oil on them. Even a brand new baitcaster should go through acetone and one tiniest drop of oil to make the best of purchase.
I have no experience on abu standard bearings but it looked like they did not spin very well. It could be due to sealing or the lack of cleaniless in bearing. My bearing cleaning process is: overnight soak - spindry - dip - spindry - dip .... repeat untill there is difference. It is possible to spindry the bearing with dremel but one has to wear at least eye protection if somethin goes off. From some of the bearings you can also remove the seal by just removing the tiny seal clip from outer race.
I can't say for sure if this would make so much difference with slow spool speed but I still think it would be nice to see the result with full spool with braid backing. Braid is usually almost weighless and the spool diameter would not be compromised.
I really enjoy each and every of your videos, even though I may have to trade my old shimanos for some pitchifun :)
Most average priced reels are "over greased" by the manufacturer because they are trying to sell a product to average consumers. It also helps tame the spool for casting and gives longer term protection for the bearings. Not everyone is trying to get max distance or try to finesse fish with a $100 dollar baitcaster.
I'd like to see you do the Shimano Casitas next please. I've seen lightweight shallow spools for them, plus you already have bearings for it ;)
Awesome test! This reminds me of when I first got my tatula ct. I put a small amount of 30 pound braid on it, and tested it on a cheap 35$ john coo UL bait finesse rod. The lure I threw on it was a Daiwa DR minnow around 4.4 grams/1/7 oz. It had no problems casting that lure a decent fishable distance. If you aren't testing a tatula ct with other stuff, I wouldn't mind seeing what you test that reel out like that, if you have it.
I dont like how I have to pull off the handle side plate to get to the 2nd spool bearing. A stupid design by Daiwa. Or I would have done it already lol
@@THEREELTEST yeah, I left the bearings as is with that reel. That reel seems nice and slick out of the box.
I recently learned that the inexpensive 30ish light shallow spools for the abu garcia max3 series will fit in the revo x gen 4 ( regular width not wide spool or winch versions). Most of these range between just under 10 grams to around 12 grams and all are a huge improvement over the 20+ grams of the stock spool. They are pretty common on eBay and Ali express and I'm sure you can find them in other places. I gave mine a good polishing with a dremel and a bearing upgrade and it is casting light lures really well. The handle is the other really heavy element on the revo x but it is the super comfy knobs that make it heavy and I love the way they feel.

When you put less line on the spool you decrease it's effective diameter and increase rotation speed which, together with not so great bearings, can shorten the casting distance.

FILL UP YOUR SPOOL GUYS! There is physics involved; it is misinformation to not fill your spool up while expecting maximum performance, further casting distances and accuracy.
A full spool not only has a effect on distance and accuracy but also your gear ratio.
When casting with a "full spool" the distance gains come from more line coming off the wider diameter spool; that's why BFS spools have a wider circumference. The shallow aspect of the spool [line capacity] and porting aids in lowering the rotational mass and friction (lessened by line contact at the spool) which has an effect on lure weight options to be cast; in the context of BFS allowing for small lures to be cast further and more accurately.
Gear ratio is effected by line capacity due to the fact that it takes more turns of the spool to take up more line; there is a calculus involved in this part of the development of reels. Example: Changing the tire diameter on your car will affect the speedometer. [Speedometer calibration is done by tire size]
Shimano, Diawa, KastKing etc. exhaust alot of resources in Research And Development of their products and in my opinion I think it's in our best interest to approach modifications and expectations of performance, durability and functionality from the same perspective(s) as they do. Let's follow the science. (No pun intended)

Did you try flicking the lure? I'd like to try something alike for a creek I fish in a lot for trout with a ton of overhanging trees like willows and stuff, so overhead casts are not an option

Done this with a Max reel (not with a black max, but with a Max Winch) Casts real well actually and no need to upgrade the brake mags as well. Might make a video of this down the line...
I put a couple drops of wd40 on the bearings and let it soak in for an hour then go make some casts then wipe off the excess and add one more drop...i notice a big difference in casting but you will have to reset your settings because it will cast farther and smoother.

Hi there, i have a question! Is this a good reel to combine with a light baitcaster rod (5-15g). Will i be able to cast light lures? (3-10 gram?)
You removed the lubricant from the bearings but did not re-lubricate them with perhaps a thinner product. The result is that you have removed the reels ability to survive getting wet. Don't be surprised if in time the bearings begin to rust. This was a bad idea.
Exactly horrible idea. Don’t listen to someone who doesn’t feel comfortable taking the reels completely apart.
1 drop of quantum hot sauce oil will be better than run the bearing dry
And pe line will also reduce spool weight with line :)

ive used hot sauce and its awful. Id rather use the stock oil. Hedgehog Alchemy Oil is worlds better than Hot Sauce.
Try with the Shimano SLX. What about changing the handle for a lighter Chinese one? You think that reducing overall weight would help? I'm gonna change handles and clean BB on my Shimano Caenan 100 and my Revo 3 STX, see what happens.
the SLX is going through some tests so I cant clean its bearings. Reducing the handle weight wouldnt help with casting.
Went to academy today. Looked at lews, daiwa, shimano, Garcia in the $99range Walked away with 3 Revos. Easily the best $99 reel

that info, i do own a lot of abu reels , one thing i found out is if u use them for 3-4 hours with 1/2 jig then u can use any lure even1/8 or lower weight lures with ease
Maybe the heavier lure gets the bearings spinning fast enough that it thins the oil

what are your thoughts of turning the Lew's Speed Spool LFS into a bait finesse reel. If so, is it worth changing out the bearings to something like the Spool Hi Speed bearings.,
It should do as well as the Revo X since they are almost the same reel. Id clean the stock bearings 1st to see if they will work, then try after markets if you think you need them

I think u should remove the bearing seal to make sure the bearing totally clean..& u better clean the tension knob bearing, it seem that revo x using the same concept as shimano bc reel
I used to do this with the stock bearings on reels but I got impatient. The solution is to get a bearing blaster for RC cars and use brake cleaner to blast the bearings. Each bearing done in a few minutes.
That’s crazy the stock bearings are that bad on the REVO X . I cleaned my SLX bearings and they spin like crazy now .
yeah those bearings were REALLY bad. Abu definitely cut corners with them
Where was that? Here in FL, you would not be able to not catch a fish on BFS tackle. In a really bad day, you would still catch a few mayan chiclids.
That said, today I went to a little lake close to home and could not catch one moly for my fish tank. But I did caught some bass on top.
In FL you can catch Peacock Bass, Chiclids Pan Fish, Or a saltwater fish with it

Do you think I can do modifications to this reel for bfs. I have cleaned the bearings and put reel butter and it spins freely and the spool weights 30 grams with 6 lbs mono and is the one with the brake cup???
30 grams??? that might be too heavy, but try it and see what happens?

You should have thrown this after two improvements with the corzza rod again and then with aliexpress rod and evaluate how only the rod affects the distance.

I'm noticing that too, people are not leaving any fish for others, I'm a catch and release guy 99% of the time,
I came across a bridge with a Culvert underneath and somebody had pulled out all of the decent size bluegill cut the fillets off and then tossed the carcasses back into the stream and I'm sitting there scratching my head going what kind of POS would do such a thing? I mean, fishing is a free sport activity where it was used once purely to put food on the table but if everybody did that there would be no more fish left at all 😓 because of that sort of pressure people need to wake up but there's not going to be any fish unless it's stocked by a fishery and that will be a very very sad day because how do you take the young ones fishing and teach them fishing unless there's fish to catch??? so for future generations anybody who's reading this comment think about what you're doing think about are you leaving anything behind for a future generations and is believers of Jesus we're called to be good stewards and watching out for this planet and the condition that it's in for future generations is just that blessings and aloha Timothy

you forgot the ball bearing under the control knob the long end of the spool shaft fits into it , Plus just soaking the bearing in acetone is not the best way to clean them use carb cleaner with the long red tube put on your bearing holder and blast them with the carb cleaner good you will know when there clean because they will start to spin really fast .

It was the old Hedgehog Studios tool but do yourself a favor and get one from Aliexpress. You will save a ton of money and they will work just as good

Recently, My revo x started having issues. It emds up letting line out even though the button isn't engaged and the drag isn't loose. Any suggestions or information is greatly appreciated

You should invest in an ultrasonic cleaner, bearings take a whole 10 minutes. My acetone comes out cloudy every single time, regardless if it's a factory fresh reel or not. Also, acetone evaporates quickly, bearings can air dry about 15 minutes and would be ready for oil. Here's one of my reels after a cleaning and lube. I ran them dry. You can oil them after but that would slow them down. Dry bearings are louder though

THE REEL TEST They are a company located on staten island and have a lot of high end gear it’s like tackle direct. They have a good website with a lot of detail about reels that you don’t really see anywhere else. They are the only website I find that tells you that the metanium dc has platinum service. They have also partnered with tackle advisors, which he told me not to get a metanium dc and go with a aldebaran but obviously I didn’t take his advice.
Brake cleaner works best.

Do not do this. All bearings are “slow” when cold due to proper lubrication.
The bearing will roll faster when its under load and the grease has warmed up to proper operating temperature.
This will destroy your bearings in no time.

THE REEL TEST but the video didn’t prove much. Marginal casting distance from removing grease which does degrade bearing life isn’t worth it. You’re feeding bad information to people.

I supertune all my reels (except my shimano excense spinner)
Bearings are made of hardened steel or ceramic. Other parts will wear (even with grease). I have had main gears and pinions wear, slip, bind, and increased handle slop while properly greased.
Worst case scenario, buy new bearings in 3 years when they wear out. That means you are out fishing. That's a good problem to have!
