The outtakes in princess and the pauper, and magic of pegasus one were LEGENDARY. Also, barbie Rapunzel was certainly the best Rapunzel adaptation before tangled came along. So iconic.
So may get a bit of hate but... kinda prefer the barbie version. Just coz they went against the norm for rapunzel adaptations and her hair wasn't what helped her escape, they instead kept that as a dream sequence and gave her a magic paintbrush (is her love of painting in the original story or did tangled steal that from this movie?) and later her hair is used in a different way to trick the prince. It just feels like a more original spin on the tale, plus I like penolope a whole lot more then Pascal and I like how rapunzel's parents (at least dad) actually played something of a role in the barbie movie rather then just being a bit of set dressing like he was in tangled.

As a kid I refused to watch Barbie in the Nutcracker just because I liked the Nutcracker and hated the fact that he almost dies and then proceeds to turn into ugly human and dance with Barbie. I still refuse to watch it for same reasons-
Same with Beauty and the Beast. Its not my favorite, partly because for the longest time I thought Beast actually killed and or ate Maurice when he takes him to the dungeon. And admittedly I actually like his Beast form more than human, doesn’t help his actual name is never even mentioned at all.
It's hard to put into words how much I adore how Barbie evolved in the early 2000's and continues to be presented to this day. It's completely unapologetic about being simple stories about something going wrong and a girl fixing it. It doesn't act like it's anything special, even when it has underlying themes of queerness, classism, sexism or ableism (no matter how small they are). And Barbie as a character went from a role-model to look like to a role-model to BE like, fulfilling any role in her toys and movies, getting the tagline "You can be anything!" on a toy for little girls is such a stellar move. Heck, the only thing she can't be is a different ethnicity (since that could be considered cultural appropriation or otherwise offensive for a myriad of reasons) so they added characters to fill out the racial diversity and make sure no girl felt alienated, even if Barbie's looks aren't what matters anymore. But her not changing design also signifies a message of bodily positivity too "you're allowed to be pretty and pursue whatever career you want, but you don't have too". It doesn't care anymore about anything but spreading a simple, good message to little girls and that's just fucking awesome.
I get kinda sad seeing how barbie isn't much popular with kids these days, it was my whole childhood and such a good way to teach good things to girls. Also the quality of the dolls has been so disappointing
I guess the meaning got lost among misconceptions In fact, I kinda stopped watching it after childhood because of people making fun of my taste and all the negative opinions attached on it I'd say I kinda regret leaving something so good
But Preminger is the most powerful villain ever like he's just "If I can't marry the princess to annex the kingdom, I WOULD MARRY THE QUEEN" then proceed to laugh like a Preminger.

I know it's part of their charm but if the classic Barbie movies ever got a graphic remaster - change nothing else just the graphics - I could die happy.
It honestly kills me (it's hilarious) how loved Preminger is. He's basically a power hungry misogynist (if you wanna argue that take a look on his attitude towards Anneliese), he certainly was coded in a way to be at least disliked, and here's the fandom totes going against it. It's so intriguing.
To be fair, his design is boss and he's voiced by Martin Short. He's despicable without being annoying, he's actually a lot of fun to watch. Contrast that with more realistically despicable characters, like Madame Carpe. The difference is that few of us have to deal with scheming advisors who want to take our thrones, but most of us could deal with exploitative and abusive employers, so the hate we have for the latter hits harder than the former. I had my phone up too loud on the part where they played Odile’s laughter and my mom said “what the hell was that?” while we’re sitting in a restaurant 😂😂
the crackhead reviews are most certainly the highlight of the franchise
I had these on VHS growing up and had a talking Penelope the dragon plush, along with the unicorn one (whose name I don't remember) from Swan Lake. These were my childhood.
"Bibble is my lord and savior"
I relate to this on a spiritual level-
For Christmas I got a tapestry that says “a bibble a day keeps the depression away”
Oh man, it's been so long since I've seen most of these. G2G gotta rewatch Fairytopia before I forget
Edit: I'm 30s in and nostalgia just slapped me in the face like a fish
Barbie movies are a fever dream that keeps on giving
Yes I shipped Nori and Elina (barbie) as a kid, yes I still ship it now.
you don’t know how badly i wanted my reviews to be in here and then realize it’s just all the reviews i’ve also liked on lb
I'm sorry if yours weren't!
5:07 why does her hair look like ramen noodles-💀
Please don't stop with these reviews. I need this joy in my life😂
4:08 OHHHHHHHHHHHHH, so it's like Dragon Quest 8! Gotcha...I think...
Fun fact about the Barbie Rapunzel one, Barbie as Rapunzel actually came out before Disney’s Rapunzel.
0:27 yea she had the Sakura vibes
I couldn't tell you how many times I rewatched the berries sequence on mermadia
BRO “THE TURTLE LOOKS MICROWAVED” PART KILLED ME XD I CANNOT STOP LAUGHING ✋🏻
I remember wanting to watch The Barbie Diaries so bad as a kid but never being able to. I completely forgot about it until now. Time to fulfill my childhood dream lol
I had step sisters for one singular year as a child before they just kinda left and to this day the amount of times I had to watch Barbie Swan Lake is only compensated by the fact they introduced me to Labyrinth with David Bowie.
I grew up on Fairytopia and Mermaidia, and I think like one other Barbie movie I cannot remember the name of. I had forgotten about these movies until my friend sent me a close up shot of Bibble's face as a reaction to something I said and my god when I tell you that I burst into hysterical laughter
I didn’t even know that Otto moaned- LIKE 😭
omggggg pleaseee ive been trying to figure out why i have such a visceral memory of the nutcracker ! its literally this 😭
2:06 I literally said "holy Shit does he look like an anti-semitic caricature" out loud to myself
