The 107 year old man who hid Bhagat Singh: Naseem Mirza Chengezi

The man who protected freedom fighter Bhagat Singh remembers... In this video, watch 107 year old Naseem Mirza Changezi recollect giving shelter to one of India’s most well known freedom fighters, Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
Naseem Mirza Changezi was born in the year 1910 in his ancestral home at Pahari Imli near the Churi Walan (‘bangle sellers’) area of Old Delhi. He belonged to a family of freedom fighters who fought alongside the likes of Rash Bihari Bose, Bhagat Singh and Shivaram Rajguru.
He recalls assisting as a secret messenger for freedom fighters, passing on messages and pretending to be a street vendor. When Bhagat Singh came to Delhi with intentions to bomb the Central Legislative Assembly, Naseem Mirza Changezi’s family sheltered him in Daryaganj in Old Delhi. After Bhagat Singh executed his mission, Changezi went into hiding in Gwalior.
Changezi's ancestors came to Shajahanbad in the early-17th century when Mughal emperor Shahjahan laid its foundation. Old Delhi was known as Shahjahanbad in those days.
Changezi, an ace hockey player, was selected by the Delhi Hockey Association in 1942 and recollects participating in many tournaments in his youth.
Naseem Mirza Changezi breathed his last on April 12, 2018.
