    My family much enjoyed going by tram to St Kilda beach. From the tea and coffee shop in the end of the pier, we were watching the sailing boats in the sea and pleased with the beautiful sunsets. Thank you for the nice video.

    I was fortunate enough to spend five days in Melbourne in November 2018. I walked to St. Kilda from the CBD and caught this very same tram back to the city. Having visited almost 60 countries during the course of my life, Australia is by far and away the best (where else will you find kangaroos and kookaburras?) and Melbourne is hands down the nicest, friendliest city of all. Watching this video transported me back to when I was there and gave me enormous joy. Thank you for posting this and especially in high resolution.

      @@Schony747 You could spend a lifetime traveling just in Australia and not even see the half of it. It was never on my list of must-visit countries, principally because you have so many creatures that want to hurt you, (and I really, really don't like snakes) but as I had planned to visit family in NZ I thought I should at least spend a few days in Australia on my return journey home. I now realise that one of the biggest mistakes of my life was not doing this 40 years earlier. But at least I finally made it and what a wonderful revelation it was. There is rarely a day that passes now when I don't reminisce about the all too short time I was there. Truly a magical land.

    I have a strong sentimental attachment to St Kilda, I lived there a year or so, there I started to understood some serious shit about life. I spend so much time stoned in front of the beach by myself thinking about everything. I lived, worked and loved in St Kilda, I felt for some time that I belong somewhere.

    Hey - it's interesting to see how ther line had changed since I last drove it over 10 years ago! You misspelt "concrete", btw! But a point of interest you may want to consider including is that the McDonald's at St Kilda was once the scene of a tram loop. Trams heading west on Carlisle Street - presumably the old 69 - would simply continue through the loop and head east along Carlisle Street again without the need to change ends.

    Wow, I don't understand the traffic lighting system. You have to look clear across an intersection with moving traffic, to see if your light is green.

    • @tjwilkins7065
      @tjwilkins7065 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn't drive car in Australia. So if you have manual transmission. You have to change gears with your left hand! Is the accelerator on the same side? Do you have to use your left foot instead of your right to accelerate? Its too much!!! And why is the cars making a right turn in the outer lane.

    • @Schony747
      @Schony747  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's basically the same as left hand drive car on the right! It's not hard. I could drive a left hand drive in Europe and the US.

    • @newremote
      @newremote 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tjwilkins7065: When you've been changing gear with your left hand all your driving life then you don't even think about it. Just comes naturally. The foot pedals are in the same position as for a left-hand drive car. As Schony says, any competent driver can change from left to right without too much trouble. And the traffic lights are on both sides of the intersection, they don't always show on the video. On some intersections you have to wait in the outside lane so the tram can go through. Then you can turn right. These are called hook turns and can be a bit tricky at first, but are really straightforward. At about 30 minutes you can see a black and white sign indicating a hook turn. There are usually several signs to warn you as you approach the intersection.

    Ah yes, the re-upload cured the faults of the original upload. The sequence from about 6:00 to 7:24 was particularly troublesome but now ran smooth as silk. So was it editing software or something else that caused the original glitch? Cheers!

      It was a good video! Especially now that Schony has managed a glitch-free new upload. He has re-edited(probably) or done something, possibly reinstalled his editing software(guessing here), but one way or another, Schony has eliminated the glitches that infested the first uploaded version. How much better this would have been with the editing out of the stops as most of the posts from Europe now seem to have. The incessant sound of the indicator when stopped, gross overuse of the bell - yes needed sometimes but nowhere near as often as used, eg 25.50 when the taxi had moved way before the tram even started. Ended up as usual with these Melbourne videos turning the sound off and that made it a lot better. I travel to Melbourne often and the tram system is badly clogged in many areas by increasing traffic. Pity the foresight wasn't there years ago where dedicated tram tracks as in Europe were laid down. Despite all that it was still a good vid - but edit for sure if you can in the future.

      oh dear, do I take it you're a driver instructor for a major urban transit system so you know best about when it's necessary to use the bell and indicators and so on? You appear to know so much more about how to do it than the actual professional driver
