@15:33 you can see the blade took a lot of damage. After the first quench he should have checked the hardness, then tempered it back to a straw/bronze along the sharp edge of the blade, then quench the edge in oil.

Good Bladesmiths have been using leaf springs, Railroad Steel, industrial hacksaw blades...etc. to forge fantastic above normal knives for a long....long ...long time. The Best Belt Wedge Axe I carry to the woods each day when falling timber is made from a chunk of old narrow gauge railroad rail and has a bit made from Swedish Industrial Hacksaw blade steel and it will no kidding cut today's average mild steel chain 3/8" or 1/2" in diameter...I have done it many times to win a bet of a 12 pack of Beer after work and my crew just stand there with their eyes as big as silver dollars and their mouths open....cause they can't believe their own eyes....it will cut grade 2 bolts up to 7/16 in diameter like hot butter and not even leave a nick in the bit.....It was made by my Great Uncle who was the Smithy of the family back then and he made extra cash making custom Fallers belt axes from old narrow gauge rail and making his own custom to each fallers likes ASH or Hickory when he could get the raw wood to mill into handle size 10' to 6' lengths. He passed on his skills and knowledge to his Oldest and youngest Sons who have since done the same thing with their knowledge. Every guy that works for us that works the yard, landing or falls with us has one given to them after their first year of working with for us. Some of them would rather trade their dog or truck than part with the Axe.

MASSIVE FAIL: I love it when they do that soft edge only dip in water, as if it does anything. Gods bless the person that came up with that pointless little entertainment flurry. And *Heat Treatment what?* Even cutting just that thin barbed wire he *mangled the blade* and then ground it clean again for the last shot of the blade. And anyone notice the *mighty crack* in the middle of the *weak point* he ground down the length of the blade? Have another look. There's a massive crack that goes through the blade from one side to the other. Right on that weak point grind.

That really hurts to watch him chop at that barbed wire, you can see the damage to that edge.
