  • Viewer requested deeper dive into how to use and navigate CarPlay. Conveniently I receive a call mid video too which introduces how to receive calls while using CarPlay as well.
    Any other options or other deep dives you may want please feel free to ask for them in the comments.

    Great video - we also activate Apple CarPlay for BMWs over here in the UK!

    Great video. The only thing I wish was a wired CarPlay option. Sometimes I like to have use of the home Wi-Fi while in the garage sitting in the car and when wireless iCarPlay is enabled the phone will not use another Wi-Fi network.

    You would have done well to show the steering wheel functions of carplay. Something that doesn't seem to exist ANYWHERE!

    Great video! I have an unrelated question that no other genius can figure out... I have a 2020 540i and wondered if there is a way to turn off the auto rewind feature on XM. I lose my XM signal for about 5 seconds when entering my parking garage and the XM automatically rewinds back to the beginning of the previous song. My girlfriend has an X5 and she has a time shift option on her audio sidebar menu but my 540 does not. It only has "jump forward" and "jump back" buttons. I try using the jump forward button to get back to the place I was when I lost the signal but it doesn't jump far enough. Please help! Thanks!

    Is there a way to link CarPlay connections of different phones to different Driver Profiles? I.e., when I switch my profile - my CarPlay connection is active, when my wife switches to her profile - her CarPlay connection becomes active (instead of selecting phone connection deep in the menus)
    Thank you!

    • @BMWofFW
      @BMWofFW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Unfortunately, unlike other settings and hotkey presets, phones are universal in the car and need to be manually switched for which phone gets priority (my hope is that in a future over the air update, they will allow different phone priority listings dependent on active profile. But as of now that's not the case).

    Thanks for the video. I have a 2019 X3 and do not get an audible notification when a text comes through. The banner on the screen shows up momentarily, but then goes away. I have all of the notification options enabled and still nothing. Is there a setting that I need to change in order to get an audible alert for incoming texts.

    • @BMWofFW
      @BMWofFW  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      double check your settings IN apple carplay… if you’ve upgraded to the latest iOS you might have your automatic do not disturb while driving active which can interfere with your notifications/how they’re delivered.

    Hi thank you for the video
    I would like to ask you about the street speed on the dash board?
    Thank you

    • @BMWofFW
      @BMWofFW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s easy! The street speed on the dashboard uses a combination of the camera above your rear view mirror and GPS information to let you know the speed limit on a given road. So it will change as your drive depending on the limit posted. If the left side of your steering wheel has a button that looks like a speedo with the letters LIM, then you also have Speed Limit Assist… works similar to cruise control but will allow you to not surpass the speed limit (unless you press down to the kick down option, i have a video posted about that under the Genius video list)

    • @BMWofFW

      you would have to to go COM>Modile Devices> select your device name... third option from the top is connection type... that's where you have the option of BMW iDrive (bluetooth only) or Apple CarPlay. you can hot key the mobile devices menu but it won't let you hot key any further in that menu.

    • @BMWofFW

    One question. Just bought the carplay future for my bmw m2comp f87 over connected drive store, but it’s not stretched over the entire screen and it’s really annoying me. Its like if i had the split screen on while in normal idrive mode. How can use CarPlay in full screen?

    • @BMWofFW
      @BMWofFW  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      depending on what year your F87 is you can code it for full screen carplay. late 2020models have the larger screen and driver to allow for full screen carplay from the factory. you would just need to code it for on. if it's OLDER than that then you will need a software upgrade to the newer version THEN code it . Hope that helps.

    Can you show the phone during connection to carplay? What happens if you are texting while connected? Which screen is the dominant one? The screen in the car or the phone?

    • @BMWofFW
      @BMWofFW  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Show the phone in what way? The phone screen is no longer linked to CarPlay like it used to be in iOS 12 so you can multitask (while not recommended though). If you are texting and a call comes in it will interrupt like normal and you can resume your text... if you were voice to texting it will interrupt and you’ll need to start over on the text. And technically neither screen is dormant, your phone screen will shut off like normal and still allow CarPlay functionality but you can wake it up at any point. Hope those help!

    Quick question: is the applecarplay refresh rate lower than the idrive's refresh rate? i have a 2017 2 series f22 with idrive 6 and i am not sure that the activation i did on my car is original version or working as it should

    • @BMWofFW
      @BMWofFW  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      idrive 6 has a lower refresh rate than idrive 7 just because of hardware... however as you update your phone there is software in your latest update to help mitigate the difference in refreshrate
