  • THIS MOVIE IS OBSOLETE! Please watch the updated route here: ( • Luigi's Mansion PAL an... )
This is a LOTAD (Low-Optimization Tool Assisted Demonstration) showcasing a brand new any% route for the PAL version of Luigi's Mansion. Being a LOTAD, this run is not optimized to the level you would expect from a TAS and clearly wastes time in several instances throughout the run sucking up ghosts, setting up for tricks, obtaining health, moving around etc.
This route takes advantage of 'inbounds skews' and GameboyHorror clipping, recently discovered tech that allows Luigi to achieve the 'skew' state (formally thought only possible on the glitched 'Floor 1.5') on regular, in-bounds floors, and subsequently clip through certain pieces of collision with this state, past certain walls and doors into areas that are otherwise inaccessible so early on in the game. Most notably, obtaining a skew in the Area 1 hallway allows us clip down into the Dining Room, where we can continue the sequence break and eventually perform the traditional major any% skip using a skew on Floor 1.5 to clip down into King Boo's Altar just minutes after beginning the game, without needing to capture any of the Area 1 portrait ghosts (Neville/Lydia/Chauncey). This also means that this route is the current 'true low%', as it collects no money, boos, or portrait ghosts (besides King Boo).
The reason this run is done on PAL and not an NTSC version is for only one reason: unlike the english/japanese releases of Luigi's Mansion, the PAL Hidden Mansion mode changes ghost spawns in almost every room in the mansion (among other things). For our purposes, the important change here is that regular mice now spawn in the Kitchen, which allows us to perform an inbounds skew there and clip into the Area 2 Hallway, from which point we can continue the same route that would otherwise be possible on NTSC (gold mice, such as the one that can spawn in the kitchen on NTSC, cannot damage you and thus you cannot obtain a skew using them).
This tech is relatively new, and further applications and developments surrounding it are still forthcoming. At the moment, ground mice (while inbounds) and ceiling bats (while on Floor 1.5) are the only known sources of damage that allow you to get a skew while grounded (if you can get airtime, such as walking off the well ramp in courtyard, you can use other no-knockback damage sources like the flying fish enemies to get a skew as well).
IMPORTANT NOTE: While this is currently the fastest public tool-assisted any% completion of Luigi's Mansion, the current PAL route shown here is still slightly slower than a theoretical TAS done on the Japanese version of the game which would obtain all Area 1 portrait ghosts as normal, perform the newly discovered 'Chauncey 1-cycle' skip ( • Chauncey One Cycle: Th... ), and proceed as normal afterwords clipping onto Floor 1.5 with the chest and continuing from there. I am currently working on updating the regular any% TAS to include this skip, which will definitely be faster than this by about 10-20 seconds. However, this route /would/ be faster, if one of the following things were discovered:
-clipping onto Floor 1.5 from the Area 1 hallway (this would also instantly make this route viable on NTSC versions)
    -clipping out of Anteroom
-clipping into the Rec Room from Courtyard in order to skip watching the well cutscene
-clipping into altar room from courtyard, or anywhere else before the regular any% clip
    thanks for watching! enjoy :)
