- In this video we'll be disassembling and cleaning our neglected Xbox One. A Thermal Paste will also be reapplied. I've purchased the console recently and judging by the present warranty sticker, it has never been opened or cleaned in the past 7 or 8 years. This means there will be tons of dust blocking the heatsink gaps and the cooling fan. So guys lets disassemble and give this poor, neglected Xbox One the care that it deserves.
I will be going through the whole disassembly process, step by step. So lets begin.

This is the first person ive seen take the front panel off before reinstalling! It makes it infinitely easier, I didn't realise you could detach it

Lol, yeah I saw other videos where they were forcing the whole top/front panel assembly back on the case while warning that it was very difficult and almost impossible to get right the first time. Yeah, because you need to take them apart!

I was going to play forza horizon and the time it took me to customise a car it was getting hot
Like really hot, took me like 2hrs to clean it and put new thermal paste in it, clean and put new thermal paste in your consoles people you’ll thank yourself 👊🏼
Since 2014 without cleaning it (never opened once), you can imagine how "clean" it was after almost 10 years of dust.
We were 8 years too late to give it a clean 😄

I cleaned mine today after almost 7 years and i can say that it was disgusting like this was. Great job! Still searching how to clean the power supply because it makes more noise than the xbox herself
I have to clean my power supply too. It's a bit noisy 😃
mine did the same, get some lubricant for your power supply fan, its fairly simle to take apart. i used WD40 but theres better lube to use im sure that wont attract more dust. the noise has gone away for about 4 months now.

I did some cleaning on my Xbox One, but the video that I've watched taught me how to reassemble the console in the most horrible way lol Now seeing how you do, it will be soooo easier this time ^ ^

I think if u use the spackle tool to evenly coat it then put a dot in the center it’s better for thermal paste application

Haha i know how that sounds, ( like there is a tons of stuff that could go wrong) but actually the Xbox One is really simple to disassemble and work with. On the other hand we have the newer Iphone's which are completely non repairable, and are not even meant to be disassemble by the user. We have to give props to Microsoft for designing the Xbox One the way they did.

This truly is the utmost. I have never needed to do this for any other console I have owned plus I have only had my new xbox for a year. Microsoft really let me down this time..
What truly boggles my mind is how an xbox with a giant circle vent (xbox one series s) can overheat so easily. Have you seen the size of the fan? Its HUGE for such a little tiny xbox.

My original black Xbox one from 2015 or 16 for Christmas, still runs amazing haven’t cleaned it like this or dust clean I do want to tho idk how much longer it’ll last but runs amazing never have problems
If you haven't cleaned it or changed the thermal paste now is a good time to do it. Thermal paste tends to lose its properties as time goes

Was just gifted an Xbox and holy it was a rat's nest in every way except literal lol. Cockroaches got in it and it was overflowing with dust. It was working but overheated to the point of turning itself off quite a bit

That's the thing with these Xbox One Fats and PS4 Fats- they are often in a poor condition. You should get yours checked. It's a really pleasent DIY task

Have you ever changed the thermal paste in your PS3? If so how often do you suggest doing this? I've had my PS3 Super Slim for about 5 years and never opened it to change thermal paste or even clean it. I've always been afraid of opening it because I'm afraid I might mess up something.
Hey man. I haven't changed the thermal paste on my PS3. I had it serviced before i bought it. My advice is that you should probably change your thermal paste. If are anxious to do it, take it to a shop. It shouldn't cost more than 10-20$ to get the thermal paste reapplied.
I've cleaned out and pasted a ps3 ss. They aren't too difficult, but you do need to watch out for all the tension clips. Just watch a tutorial video and carefully follow the steps and you will be golden. I recommend artic mx4 since it offers good performance and isn't too expensive.
I have and I used toothpaste instead of thermal paste for me its easier then the Xbox because of the x-clamp
Please use the X clamp tool one wrong move with the flathead and its over

You can get it cleaned it in a shop, brother. Shouldn't cost more than 20$
my xbox one was gotten with fo4 on christmas i should REALLY get someone maintenance it or learn to do it myself before she decides to hit the bucket however she runs fine even as she is now
I suggesting cleaning you XBOX ONE internally once every 2-3 years, brother. Actually the XBOX One is really easy to take apart.
These processing units are way smaller than a pc cpu, too much thermal paste can trap heat inside. I always used a pea size drop and had cores and cpu running at 18-25c. I wouldn't recommend the X pattern.

I actually never have had to clean mine in all the 8 years I've owned it. It's still pretty quiet, and has no issues. At the same time, even though it's still running fine with no issues, is it still really dirty inside? I've never had to open it before. Only consoles I've ever opened in my life time was my 360 and my PS3 for repairing Red Ring of Death/Yellow Light of Death.
Mine was running quiet as well. But as you can see it was quite dirty on the inside. I would advise you to clean your Xbox One at least once every 2-3 years. I don't think the thermal paste will be in a good condition after 8 years.

Great video, only gripes are the lack of teaching about the power button's ribbon cable and the white and black plastic pieces. Other than that, I was able to get it all done.
Followed this video to the letter and cleaned everything out. My thermal paste looked fine and not flaky or burnt, so I just reassembled it and it still cuts off. May actually be the thernal paste, but I'm unsure.
Can you describe how your consoles cuts off, brother?
@@SkvalaGaming Just playing my games and it just cuts out after a few hours. Can't power it back on unless I unplug it. The power supply isn't bad, as far as I can tell.
@@SkvalaGamingSo, about the thermal paste. Turns out it was super flat and flaky. Replaced it with Arctic MX4 in the same pattern you did. Will let you know the results soon.

Everything was fine until I saw dust not removed from the ventilation holes of the case, how can you clean it and leave dust on the case.
I cleaned it afterwards. I focused more on the internal parts

What kind of screw drivers and bits did you use? I know that Microsoft has a like for anti temper screws.
Just a regular torx screw, the console is very easy to dissassemble actually
hey bro its youkki sorry if im on so many alt accounts so my xbox one had cockroaches and spider webs all in the fan and thermal paste, i got it from gamestop and got it for christmas and the maunufacture date was 4/13/2013 no wonder why mine died thanks for helping me i will probably get a 1tb matte black halo master chief collection xbox one for christmas this year thanks alot my xbox was for some reason alot faster with disc games for some reason. see i have a halo 5 xbox one in my living room and a forza 6 xbox one in my basement and a call of duty advanced warfare xbox one in my brothers room. and a xbox my dads friend made for him he just had a skin on it. and they are extremly fast with the 4tb hard drive my dad bought for me on my birthday. those xboxs dont have any spider webs or roaches in it.

@@yupiter7you should do it tho, it is advised that you have actually to change the paste regularly every few years, now imagine what happens after not doing so in 10 years, there is actually no thermal paste left. Mine plus with the dust was blowing hot air like a hair dresser. It's really easy so don't worry

You can use rubbing alcohol to clean the old thermal paste

They came with a kit i got for my PS4 controller few months ago. Just look for some prying tools on amazon
My xbox one s was running pretty good but i decided to remove the case for the first time and clean all the dust off the fan and other areas (it wasn't that dirty), but i didn't remove any of the internal parts or put on any new paste etc
Im too nervous to take it completely apart to put new paste on ( i already cracked a piece off the black bottom part of the case taking it off lol)

Su video fue muy interesante talvez solo querias explicar sobre como poner pasta termica pero ya q desarmo la consola y solo le dio mantenimiento de limpieza al ventilador y sobre donde va la pasta termina y el resto de componentes de la consola se veia de polvo ya digamos hubiera aprovechado darle un mantenimiento general a la consola solo eso fue lo q no me termino de gustar del todo xq las carcasa o tapas de la consola sus bases la base metalica del ventilador y ect... Se veian de polvo y al final me hubiera gustado ver un mantenimiento general a la xbox one

@@shambles416 not really, but you just need to clean every single bit of dust , if you follow this video he explains how to disassemble everything. The more problematic area are the fan and the heat sink, they need to be clean to efficiently dissipate the heat.

It won't break. But you might get overheating issues.
Hey just coming back from the comment you posted. I misspoke the code I had. I had E208 and E105 and it ends in 00000000 8007001F. Sorry for the false info. I turned it on for the first time after cleaning the inside and applying new thermal paste like you said. Does E105 still means I need a hard-drive?
You can try this-
Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button for roughly 10 seconds. The console will turn off.
Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the Xbox button on your controller. If you don’t see the green boot-up animation when the console restarts, repeat these steps. Make sure that you hold the power button until the console completely shuts down.
I've been getting a error E208 and another time E205 code. Console can't make it past the boot up stage. Had it working then it stopped again. Is it safe to assume that it's time to Crack it open and clean and add thermal paste?
From what i read error code E205 is associated with bad hard drive. You might want to replace it, it shouldn't be that expensive

You could. But keep in mind you can't reuse these thermal pads.
Now if i put my xbox on in 1 minute it sais it overhated and its cold

Just a random one i picked up from my hardware store. I wouldn't go for some extra fancy or abive 15-20$
