      UCO candle lantern. Seen a couple of guys use them in Alaska at -20F and heated a 10X10 area to 65F with just two of them in a little over an hour. I know outfitters that use them in the back country pack in's as well.

      MPowerd Luci Solar String Lights, or other solar sting lights, that can be charged by sun or USB.
      Maybe a little less practical, but then they really do cheer the place up during a blackout, or just for hanging on your deck or porch. I love mine camping - especially since with all the wildfires, campfires were banned in our area from late spring to late fall. And gosh, who doesn't love a pretty holiday gift (pretty being in the eye of the beholder of course)?

    My gifts this year for my family are prepper stockings- each has some life boat food, sawyer mini, emergency blanket, poncho, learherman, flashlight, bandaids, survival tabs, duct tape, wet wipes, prep pads, morakniv, feuerstock fire steel, and a wera multi driver. All wrapped up in a compression bag. Last year I did other items in a dry bag. They laugh at me but really enjoy the bags. I only have 4 to buy for. Each bag is about $200, but I buy throughout the year so it doesn’t hurt so bad. Plus they are my family.

    In hurricane zones a folding solar panel with multiple USB ports, a USB fan, a power bank, and an Onite USB light bulb is a great power outage kit.

    I’ve had the luminaid lantern for about 5 years now and it’s the best. I actually found mine in the middle of the road, middle of nowhere, on one of my first trips out with my dad in my late teens and it’s been a staple of camping ever since. We just leave it on the dashboard of the car to charge during the day and it lasts almost if not all night

    My Dad gave me an Estwing hatchet when I was young (probably around 11 or 12). Thirty-five years later I still have it, use it regularly, and it's just as good as when my Dad gave it to me. Also, since my Dad passed away a few years ago, every time I use it, I think happily about him 😁

    The list of gift preppers' gear is great l took your recommendation of the luminaid lantern. I had a power outage in the spring and took out my luminaid lantern and it lasted longer than 9 hours of the power outage. I also bought the water filter that's better than a grayl geopress. And bought the mylar blanket as well. Totally love my prepper supplies and they're some of the best products out there. The luminaid lantern is great for a b.o.b as it weighs about 2 oz or a little less. The power bank is just as essential as a filter blanket or tent. I recommend the Beartwo power banks. They're both excellent power sources. Either the 25,000mah or the 10,000mah one, they both charge really well and the 10,000mah one charges 1.5/4 in three hours of sunlight as I've Seen it do that well on a hike. Great list of essential gear for a bug-out bag or blackout kit in an emergency.

    The only issue I have with the products containing lithium batteries is what happens when the they fail after three years right when you need them? Also, lithium doesn't function as well in low temperatures. With for example flashlights that allow user replaceable batteries you have a choice of using e.g. AA Alkaline, single-use Lithium AA or CR123A, Lithium-ion rechargeable, and NiMh rechargeable which last longer than lithium. You can use what is best for your circumstances and situation at the time or what you have access to.

    I have to disagree with your choice of hatchet. While Esting is fine quality and I do agree that they can last a lifetime, I cannot agree that it is superior to a wood handle....it is simply a tradeoff of features. Go find people that use axes or hatchets daily for their job and almost all of them will use a wood handle. Wood handles can be incredibly comfortable because they can be modified to fit your comfort. Wood handles absorb impact that steel only transfers (despite whatever handle material is wrapped around it). The setting hatchet balance is a bit off as well, putting more weight in the handle than is ideal and also less weight in the head where it is needed. The shape of the head of an Estwing is great for chopping but far from ideal for splitting. All-in-all there are better options out there for similar money.

    • @TheSaneHatter
      @TheSaneHatter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nude_cat_ellie7417 Hot water can be safely boiled in a single-wall steel bottle, while an insulated bottle might explode.
      Having said that, *I* carry a double-wall bottle because I have a cup for boiling to go with it, and I prefer to control the temperature of my drinks.

      @@TheSaneHatter I'm skeptical. I bought one in a previous video and left in direct sunlight for days and I live next to Mojave. It hardly generated any charge. The company sent a replacement that was the same way.

    • @baneverything5580
      @baneverything5580 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@abramknarr8132 The best combo is a folding solar panel and USB power bank. Putting a lithium battery in full sunlight ruins it fast.

    • @baneverything5580
      @baneverything5580 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@abramknarr8132 The good thing about the solar power banks is you can find great deals on them because ratings are often very low due to their poor performance. However, they have great batteries so I look for big discounts and charge them with much larger folding panels. During the day you can directly charge any type of battery with a folding panel with the right accessories. If the panel has multiple ports you can directly power a fan, charge a power bank, and a radio, flashlight, or phone at the same time. A 100 watt folding panel will provide power even on cloudy days.
