"20% of mobile home parks across the country have been bought by investors in the past eight years" When an investor takes over they will put in luxury hirise apartments and/ or condos which means the cities will make a ton on property taxes over the next 40 years. With all that money coming in they should be generous in giving relocation money to these senior citizens.
Mobile park owners pretty much can do anything they want and that is the problem is the state has no regulations and they are exempt from any laws in this state. Change the laws.
An investor came in from Colorado and brought up 5 mobile home parks here in Illinois, where I live. The company is named Tovia Capital Colorado....yes they are greedy investors from Colorado!
@@beckyjones3578Black Rock also is bying in my country Finland and raising rents. They use other companies that are working for them. Many business owners had to close because rents are too high now..
Best advice for people living in trailer parks like this is simple. Do the work to set up the park as a non-profit housing situation. Form a not for profit corporation owned by the residents to run the property. Im pretty sure most places will have government agencies to help with the process. Run as a cooperative housing corporation, residents own equal shares in the entire property, and those shares give them exclusive use of their plots. The land rent they are paying is likeky more than the cost of such communal ownership.
This goes on across the country. The owners want higher rent. At any cost. Its their business M.O.'s. Something needs to be done to stop this practice. I think the owner of homes need protection from the sharks of the world. The state needs to step in and help the poorest of the poor.
You don’t own the land. You only lease it. You knew this when you signed the lease. A lease is temporary, it’s not permanent. Compassion for others is vital for the less fortunate. However, a lease is a lease. Can the Feds step in and turn old military bases into affordable spaces for the people that are really desperate? Where are the Democrats who claim to represent the working man? We have open borders with little restrictions, where are all these poor people going to end up ? There is surplus federal lands sitting vacant all over the country. Where are all the rich politicians doing about this ? ZERO !
The person and or company knew it was a mobile home park BEFORE they bought it. Should be some kind of grandfather clause to protect the long term residents 😢

My landlord sold the house I had been living in for years without any warning whatsoever. Didn't even say he was thinking of selling it. He took my rent from my hand, then handed me a letter saying he had sold the house and how long I had to find a place and get out. I was hysterical and crying and told him to give me my rent money back since he took it from me not even owning the house anymore, and he wouldn't give it back to me. At this point I had 25 days to leave and didn't have any money since I'm on social security disability. I was renting through hud and called my worker to tell what happened and all she said was "well that's a shame " And said something about he had his papers signed right. Wtf does that even mean? I tried to get help from hud with moving, they're supposed to have some kind of displacement allowance and they wouldn't even talk to me about it. This happened when the virus hit and everything started shutting down including realtors and landlords being allowed to rent or show homes. So me and my son were in a very bad situation. The ones who bought the house wanted us out so they could fix it up and sell it, they were somewhat sympathetic to the situation and even told us they had been telling my landlord he needed to let us know he was selling it and I realized he didn't so that we wouldn't tell them all the stuff wrong with it to get a higher price. He had brought these two guys into the house twice in about 4 months or so and told us they were his home owner insurance guys that had to do a few inspections to adjust his insurance. We had made sure the house was picked up and looked nice when the landlord called explaining this to me about them coming over so we had no idea they were actually buyers. They even took pictures which later we found online with the listing for the house for sale. My son was in a few of those pictures and he was furious. About a couple weeks later my landlord showed up at the door asking if I'd found a place to go. So this is when everyone had just been ordered to quarantine because of covid. So he stood there telling me he hated how everything went and said he had a place we could move into. I tried so hard to find a place somewhere, anywhere else but everything was shut down. The guys who bought the house were pressuring me, hud was pressuring me ( and not offering any kind of help to move)so we were basically forced to move into another house by this same landlord I wanted nothing to do with anymore. We had to borrow the money for a u haul to move our stuff and the stimulus checks that came out had to pay for deposits and utilities getting turned on and pay back the uhaul money. It's been a nightmare and the same landlord went on to destroy our car with his riding lawnmower, he let the roof leak for a year and a half. We had to empty buckets they had placed in the attic everytime it rained. No we haven't said anything to anyone because being homeless is not an option, my son is diabetic and I have a disability so it's been awful but just trying to fight through the depression that is overwhelming sometimes. I wish I could win the lottery, I would help so many people right now who are suffering from the rents being raised across the country. I know that there are so many wondering what to do and I'm just saying we know what that feels like, not knowing what to do or where to turn.
Forgot to add the landlord was there both times the guys actually buying it were there, following them around repeating it was in good shape, just cosmetic. Huge lie.
You are welcome to buy as many homes, apartment buildings, or mobile home parks as you like and run them as a charity, but others are not obligated to do that. If people did not invest in rental housing, there would not be any homes to rent. You would have to buy, and many people do not have the credit scores necessary to purchase their own home so they need to rent. Our nation is blessed to have people who choose to invest in rental properties. They are usually much better maintained than public housing, which historically speaking, the government did not maintain public housing, and they became slums. Medical professionals that have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars for the education needed to get their medical licenses are not going to work for free so hospitals are all for profit, even if they claim to be a nonprofit. Unless government takes over our hospitals (heaven forbid), hospitals have to make a profit. Therefore, they are investment pools.
Greedy park owners. A number of companies are buying parks to squeeze residents for double lot rental fee. States have to protect low-income lot renters. Even if they moved -- there's nowhere to go!!
You buy a mobile you are at the mercy of the landord and if he sells the park you end up with nothing if you cannot sell your trailer.if your going to buy one get the cheapest one possible.
Well... if the land owners have given the legally required notice...what can you do? If you can't move it, I'd sooner burn it to the ground before selling (given those choices) it to them.
The owners of the land have every right to do this. It's unfortunate for these folks, but they'd be better off trying to figure out how to move forward rather than relying on the new land owners to have a change of mind. Maybe they could pool their resources to buy some land as a community, or reach out to some of the local churches to see if any relief could be organized within those networks.
There is a mobil home park near me that did this an word, got out now it's been 8 years, an they still don't have any homes on the pads, no one is moving into that park.fear of being evicted.
I had a mobile home in Joplin Missouri the Park was Bought I sold up the old and new owners were Scumbags no loyalty to anyone I made plans These people didn't Tough luck 🤞
Look into it. depends on your state, but I believe they have to give you compensation for your homes, also if they bought the park under the pretext of building something better you should get sompensation for that broken promise/contract. Time to get a lawyer.
No contract with the tenants has been broken. The leases are month to month, and the landlord gave them three months (90 days) to move. A month to month lease means that both the tenant and the landlord are committed to the lease for the month. The tenant can decide to leave and the landlord can't prevent it, and likewise, the tenant has to leave when the landlord terminates the month to month lease. The law in that city says the landlord has to give the tenant 90 days to move the home. The landlord gave the 90 days. It is sad (even tragic) for the tenants, but all rental contracts are for a specific amount of time. The tenants do not have a legal right to stay forever, even when it is difficult for them to move. A lawyer can't help them with this. The lawyer might get them 30 to 60 more days, but they will have to move. It is inevitable.
So blame the successful people for being successful? Such a cop out. Do better , period. The ‘ news’ story trying to garner sympathy said generations living there. What? No one tries to do better, make better choices? Whose fault is that?
You have to remember that some people are doing the best they can. Due to things like disability, not everybody is going to reach us high a tax- bracket as everyone else. That doesn’t mean that they should be treated so badly. Not everybody ends up in poverty, due choices they made I know it’s hard to imagine that these couldn’t possibly be excuses, but in the real world, not every opportunity is created equally
Just because the world works a certain way doesn’t mean that it should work that way. I get that we have to live in the world as it is, but things like this just should not happen. We don’t have a sense of community anymore, where we take care of each other and work together to solve problems. Social services are incredibly underfunded. Where are the unlucky supposed to go? This attitude that all people are in bad situations to the bad choices is naïve, obtuse, and sickening.
always while your working and do well, please buy your land and house whether it is a trailor or tiny home or house on some land that is in a cheap area, where the property taxes are fairly cheap, people get to comfortable with cheap rent and when it goes up or someone buys the property your stuck. we paid this off many years ago it is still a money pit yes but you have to live somewhere, we keep a savings, my hubby planned well in advance, what I dont understand cant they just get new leases and raise the rent a bit or what is the purpose o buying it up?
More than likely, the new owner wants to upgrade the community with newer mobile homes, or else, they are planning to close the mobile home park and redevelop the land for another purpose, such as building apartments, a shopping center, or a business park.

Look what happens every time the government gets involved. They screwed landlords over big time. This is a private business government has zero business getting involved. Is it sad? Yes, but these people have been there for generations? Generations? And no one tried to do better? Not once? And they knew this could happen when they signed the lease. Owners are not obligated to what someone else wants
I’m pretty much over with Biden n his bad policy ! If you created this bad economy mess than clean it up ! All of us are stress out with struggling to put on the table and you know what if any of us losing our hour or job than issue per job we loss 2k each stimulus check for one year and freeze our mortgage n cc payments n free utilities! It not outrageous to ask for this but we all can’t put up the BS that happening now ask us to be ok without breaking us down apart inside
Sadly stimulus checks got us into this mess a long with Biden policy and unnecessary Covid lock downs. If anything put a pause on property taxes which is unconstitutional anyway or at minimum a locking in of taxes at time you purchase the home so you’re not pushed out when you’re elderly because your house triples in price.
I have seen so many of these lately. They park owners should have to pay for moveing those trailors or pay them the going rates to relocate!!! Then good luck finding a mover, there are very few!!
30 to 40 years renting the land is insane. Could they not work and buy a house when property was so cheap and easy to qualify for? I bought my house in 1994 for the same I paid in apartment rent. When you rent you have little voice.
@@sfranklin75 The ground is leveled, it's zoned for family dwellings, it has the infrastructure already in place. It's perfect property to snap up and be ready to build on. Developing land for building can take years and millions in the infrastructure, trailer parks are already done.
No, not greed. Financial need for the mom and pop, or maybe the mom and pop died. This is tragic for the tenants, but everyone who rents should know that no rental lasts forever, just as the owner can't make them stay forever.
It's a scam that's been going on the past fee years. The former owner of the land sells it and the new owner gives you the choice of Either moving your trailer or selling it to the park owner and pay at least three times as much as you use to pay.

I do not understand why communities or cities can't buy a few lots of a few acres each, and give these homeowners a place to live, without the fear to have to vacate the place? Land is not costing that much in many areas of the U.S.
Operative word-give. Why not you pony up the money? They can’t afford the property tax after you ‘give’ them land. Will you pay those too? You can’t keep taking away from people and ‘giving’ because it never ends.
It's amazing that people aren't making hateful comments. These people aren't being called lazy, uneducated, refusing to work, bad parents, trailer park drug addicts. Wake up America these are the faces of the poor and no it's not who society tries to tell you it is.
It's predatory! It's wrong? It's theft! It's criminal! Look at the big picture here! Do the math. Price of the park? Price of rent? Number of renters? Just because it's a mobile home doesn't mean you can just hook up and move!
You mean the property owner who are allowed to do whatever they want? How is it the owners fault? They knew the deal when they signed the leases can’t expect the world to do what you want. It’s unfortunate but they need to take responsibility too. The ‘news’ is doing sob stories. Why not tell the other side of the story? The owners are NOT doing anything wrong as unfortunate as this is. The world does not owe anyone understanding, not even the owners.
If the guy built the place in the 80's he is probably retiring. Who is he supposed to sell to? And who are YOU to determine who he can and cannot sell to?
He is the owner and he has the right to sell. He should give them a lot more time, like a year. I mean you can’t blame him for selling. That’s capitalism. But we can’t forget that these people are real people that have problems. 😢
What does the Biden administration have to do with state law that’s been on the books for decades? The property owners have the right to do whatever they want with their own property. Are you a socialist?
The land is worth more with the trailers off of it.that’s probably the motivation. Unless the trailer owners have a relative with land, they are screwed

There are THOUSANDS of these 55+ communities in Florida that was once up a time an affordable option for senior's on a fixed income. Really SAD what's happening 😢
Who are the private investors buying???! Chinese?
An investor came in from Colorado and brought up 5 mobile home parks here in Illinois, where I live.
The company is named Tovia Capital Colorado....yes they are greedy investors from Colorado!
Biden's way. Let the chinese take over and buy America. We voted for this, shdh. 🙄
Yep. China and England. They go through Black Rock which owns 90% of our lands and homes.
@@beckyjones3578Black Rock also is bying in my country Finland and raising rents. They use other companies that are working for them. Many business owners had to close because rents are too high now..
@@Stephanie-vn6ir some company is doing in Iowa too, but they don’t make you leave. They just double the rent.
Very sad. That’s a risk you take when buying a mobile home. Hope they find new housing.
What are you supposed to do when that’s all you can afford?
Everyone knows that this can happen.
See my comment above
ZERO !

Sorry to hear that, I hope you landed on your feet.
The person and or company knew it was a mobile home park BEFORE they bought it. Should be some kind of grandfather clause to protect the long term residents 😢
40 years there. You could have bought your own land at that point. However if ALL of them have to leave, join together and buy a bit of land to set up their own trailer park.

@@Kim-yy8kl What, are you saying building and maintaining the infrastructure of a trailer park is not cheap? Yet SOMEHOW as those costs go up the OWNER is not allowed to raise prices?
Proposing solutions that you know are not feasible, is the equivalent of saying, screw them. As noted these people are often very poor and on fixed incomes. How are they buying land ?
@@rws91942 Easy. AS A GROUP. Instead they are crying because they are not getting charged less than break-even for the land they are on.
Property owners have the right to do whatever they want with their own property. To try and take that right away would be akin to socialism.
THIS GROUP NEEDS TO BAND TOGETHER, PULL THEIR RESOURCES LIKE A NEW FAMILY FOR BEST COMMUNAL OPTIONS ON ANOTHER PIECE OF LAND THAT THEY ALL CAN SHARE. THEY NEED EACH OTHER MORE THAN EVER!
What else can one expect when they don't own the land?
What are the poor people supposed to do?
They may not have a lot of options but I think the point is you have to realize this is always a possibility going in.
If you’re disabled and survive on SSI, then saving money isn’t just infeasible but LITERALLY not an option.
Knowing that the land could be sold right out from under, you doesn’t offer any solutions for when that happens.
They really are people out there who are disabled and have no family and what would their solution be?
Nobody's saying they have an abundance of options but that sill doesn't make this a good one.
But many own the trailers, just not the land. They should not leave
Who exactly are these investors that are buying up these lands to where the people can't even live in trailer Park homes????. With all of the lands that are available. Why do these investors purchase land that the people can't afford to move their trailers???? And knowing that. Why is it they want these people to move in 30 days...........? When they very well know that it is impossible for most of these people to do such???? And because they can't move it. They have the audacity to ask the people to sell the trailers to them? When infact these people have no place else to go??? I say if you want to invest in such in such land. Why don't you purchase some for people that are having hard times such as the people that you are trying to make homeless like these people that you want to leave the trailer Park. With no place to go. No other place to live?. And find other lands to purchase. There is plenty more vacant land that you can develop. Is it that you are so consumed with greed to were you are ruthless and heartless???? That you can't see the greater need of the less fortunate????? Are there not enough homeless people in America USA???? Especially senior citizens???? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Huge lie.
Thats so sad.

Housing and medical should not be investment pools.

How much you want to bet the new owner will put up some nice apartments on that lot and charge 2-3000 month
Which means they will pay sizable proprty taxes for decades. The city should help these people with moving expenses.
Well... if the land owners have given the legally required notice...what can you do?

I wish these news networks would put their state name after their call sign so we know where they're located at.
Tennessee
That's sad, the rich getting richer.
So blame the successful people for being successful? Such a cop out. Do better , period. The ‘ news’ story trying to garner sympathy said generations living there. What? No one tries to do better, make better choices? Whose fault is that?
Welcome to America
You have to remember that some people are doing the best they can.
Due to things like disability, not everybody is going to reach us high a tax- bracket as everyone else.
That doesn’t mean that they should be treated so badly.
Not everybody ends up in poverty, due choices they made
I know it’s hard to imagine that these couldn’t possibly be excuses, but in the real world, not every opportunity is created equally
This is so damn sad… this country is so disappointing

This is one of those rare times where government needs to take decisive action on behalf of the tenants.....
Government should take the park via imminent domain and put it under HUD.
The government is part of the problem, they will get more in tax revenue if the owner develops something bigger.

This has nothing to do with any of that. Greedy landowners are to blame for this fiasco.
30 to 40 years renting the land is insane. Could they not work and buy a house when property was so cheap and easy to qualify for? I bought my house in 1994 for the same I paid in apartment rent. When you rent you have little voice.
