All you need to know when it comes to Vito’s dominance in his day.... When Nuno Bettencourt was asked why his playing had become so ambitious he literally answered, “ cuz Vito Bratta is out there” Enough said....
I love the Wait solo but when I tell people of my greatest solos of all time it’s the Little fighter solo. It’s absolutely amazing and tasteful with everything. Tapping, arpeggios and even string skipping all with Vito’s incredible melodic feel.
Here's a tidbit of info about the wait solo that I bet a lot of people don't know. The wait solo you hear on the album was Vito's 1st practice run and one and only take in the studio. It was time to record the solo and Vito plays that solo right off the fly as a warm up. He tells the producer "ok I'm ready". The producer says, "what do you mean? That's it!" so that's the exact solo you hear on the album. I find that astonishing! EVH did the same on the beat it solo but I find Vito to be a lot cleaner with his playing. There is a radio interview with Vito on TH-cam were Vito reveals a lot of what happened with White Lion and why he disappeared from the scene all together. Highly suggest listening to it.
TOTALLY down for another Vito episode!! David, seriously - your videos are so inspirational- I’ve been writing a lot of new tunes using knowledge I’ve acquired from your videos! Thanks so much.

Vito is one of the best guitarrist coming out from the 80s and influenced by VH. My favorite one is without a doubt Nuno Bettencourt but Vito is right next. Both amazing players and legends in my book
Going to high school in the early 80's, EVH and Randy Rhoads were right in my wheelhouse and I saw both of them live, EVH a bunch, like whenever you had the chance. When Flexible came out, it was clear Vai was a virtuoso. Rising Force was promising for Malmsteen, but imo, that was his best effort. When Wait hit the radio, I knew immediately Vito was in that category. He got pegged as a EVH clone back then, but he was a lot more then that. It's great to see all these years later his stuff being dissected for it's inherent beauty and complexity. It's criminal that these guys were opening for Stryper on the success of Pride.
Sadly, folks are still on that " van halen clone" nonsense. The guy was far beyond van halen in melodic sense, phrasing, had a wider range of chord voicings, didnt spend 90% of his career lockedinto pentatonic leads over major chords... they just shared a lot of similar influences.
Dude I was 16 when Wait came out. I was watching Headbangers Ball and Wait came on. Like you, I knew there was a new gunslinger in town. Actually got to meet Vito on the Aerosmith tour they opened for in 87 or 88. Amazing guitartist. I wish he had a better lyricist to work with. But man what a band.
Wow at 7:50! After all these decades That's the arpeggiated bridge part! Sounds totally different played by itself. Like something a modern melodic band would would kill for. Vito was mad deep.
Heck yeah! It's weird that you don't really notice it until you listen for it and start playing it along with the song, and then not long after that, it's the only thing you can hear during that section once it gets stuck in your head. : ) I ignored that part for years (mainly because I was trying to cover the distorted guitar part), but once I learned it I realized that THAT was the cool chord thing happening in that section of the song, and it always eluded me until I finally sat down and learned how to play it. Great job man. Thanks. Vito is mythic to me. His career so short like Jim Croce almost, but have us so much in that small window. I really believe Bratta displayed enough talent and ability that he could, should be considered among the greatest guitarists.
I totally agree! And unlike someone like Croce or even Randy Rhoads, Vito's still with us and is almost "in hiding." Which is sad and a little odd, but I'm sure he has his reasons why he did what he did, and in some weird way I respect him for it, even though I really miss hearing his music and would like some new music from Mr. Bratta. : ) Thanks again and rock on!
@@LateNightLessons Yeah he must be very introverted in some ways. I have read and heard that Mike Tramp said it was at times difficult getting him involved with things even during their short bit of fame. He obviously isn't mental. I have listened to the Eddie Trunk interview and he is very articulate and soft spoken...sounded completely normal. His recluse nature at first seemed Steve Perry like, but I don't ever see Vito emerging from his quiet life. I have accepted it. I have four albums. Pride is a mastercraft...his magnum opus. What he gave us from start to finish in that album is beyond astonishing. I may be laughed out of town for this, but I believe it is a perfect album guitar playing-wise. The mastery and virtuosity he displayed puts him discussions with Vai, Hendrix and any of the masters. Just my humble opinion.
Love that you have the Pride White Lion logo as your PC desktop! Nice touch! Oh and congrats on breaking 700 subscribers. Your channel is gathering momentum and set to take off🤟🏻🎸🎸🎸
Thanks again buddy and I felt that background on the laptop was fitting. : ) Yes, it's really great to see this channel growing every day. Awesome lesson David , you've done a lot of research here . Vitto really inspired me to search out different chords ,much as I loved the solo to Wait ,it was the chord inversion that really I took to and have explored and incorporated into my own music . Thank you another stellar lesson.
Wow and thanks Richard! This lesson was a blast to put together and it really felt like walking down memory lane, as some of these riffs and songs I hadn't really played in a long time, so it was really fun putting this one together. Stay tuned as more stuff is on the way! : ) Thanks again!
Thank you so much and no offense to Golden Earring, but White Lion took that song and made it even better. KABOOM! Vito's solo is outstanding, the drums sound amazing, and the vocals are rockin'. That's one of the best covers EVER recorded (IMO). : )
Vito is fantastic, I was mesmerized even before I started playing the guitar myself. I was usually mostly into darker stuff like doom metal, but then there was white lion. I once played the solo in Going Home for my friend M, and he said it was the happiest thing he's ever heard, which I'm pretty sure meant he didn't like it. Well, I did, and I assumed everyone would hear what I heard.
I know about White Lion cause I was born in the 80's but I gotta admit... I never listened to them much. Those chords are so cool though... gotta check more of him out. Another awesome vid!
Yeah, I'd highly recommend checking him out. Even if you don't like the songs, the guitar parts, riffs, licks, and solos are worth checking out. Rock on man\m/
Not sure if has been said in the comments already, the chords of "Wait" are very similar to the chord progression of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds". Vito was such a tasteful, creative, melodic player. Excellent video as always Dave. 👍🏼🎸
killer sounds great with the wee taster at the beginning. I learned a lot from a guitar world interview on how he played in a 3-piece. keep up the, great work
Thanks and yeah, I always found really cool advice and ideas in the guitar magazines. I miss Guitar and Guitar One. They always had the greatest players and they'd have a song, lesson, and usually an interview too - so by the time you finished the magazine, you not only knew a little of their music, you also knew a little more about the player too.
Hello David. Loved Vito's style. His works are his own with a dab of Halen. I read some where that he was criticized sounding like Eddie. I didn't know why. He always mentioned he was influence by him. Every one had adapted Eddie's technique by that time already. I miss the guy. Such a great guitarist. Thanks for naming the chords as you play them. Big help. Liking your vids. Rock! \m/
Thanks for taking the time to share all these tricks and underlining the ideas behind each of them. Some of the stuff you show might be a little hard for me right now, (just because I'm not used to it) but I'm definitely gonna try to persevere in my efforts and include a few ideas in my own stuff. Really, really cool ! Thx a bunch once again. ;-) Regards from France !
This is great to hear and thank you so much for watching and for this comment too! : ) Take your time working through some of this material and if something is too hard or tricky/stretchy to play, you can move around and try things that are easier to play/grab and then come back to the harder stuff later, once you've had some time building some strength and technique. I can't tell you how many times I had to wait to play something that was too hard for me, and when I came back to it (whatever it might have been) I almost always surprised myself that I could play more of it, or at least play it better than I could the previous time I tried it. Some things come naturally or at least easier than other things, but once you find those things that are "hard to play" that's telling you there's something there that you can't do (yet), but in time you'll build the ability and strength to play it. Good luck and keep me posted on your progress! Thank you!
@@LateNightLessons Thx for your answer, really appreciated. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who is having a hard time dealing with certain things ! I just need to get out of my comfort zone, -good old power chords- , and start playing chords with different voicings, four-note chords, that kind of stuff, and get used to them. Take care.
I'd try anything and everything you see or can think of. You never know when you'll need/want to play something unusual or different so the more things you try and start wrapping around your fingers (and your head) the sooner new chords, sounds, and ideas will start appearing under your fingers. It takes some time, but once you start branching out like this, you'll find new things coming out of you every time you pick up the guitar. And once you get going in that direction, it's really easy to just keep moving forward and learn new ideas and sounds as often as possible. Take care and rock on\m/
Vito Bratta was so melodic every part of his music was s melodic statement and his tone was phenomenal, I read that he had medical issues with his hands, such a loss, he was a musical genius
He was such a great player and his music/ideas made those songs better than they would've been otherwise. They didn't last long after the '90s arrived, but what they did record and release was really great! It's REALLY interesting to listen to some of those early demos and alternate versions of these songs. They were a little heavier early on and added a bit more of a melodic/Top 40 style by the time Pride came out. Vito was on fire the entire time and really made their music special.
@@LateNightLessons Sure thing! Great job on these videos by the way. Real simple and to the point. Would definitely like to see more on Vito if you have the time!
In the music I write, I use a lot of those types of chords that you played around the 8:30 mark (the add 9 chords). I love the way they make me FEEL when I play them. Damn! The further on that this video progresses I can hear so many similarities in his style & mine. I do a lot of those style chord progressions, but I mainly play an old-school thrash style. I just try to make it melodic by using the same types of chords Vito liked to use. Of course, I am older now, do the latest songs I’ve written aren’t fast like the stuff I wrote in the early to mid ‘90s. The latest stuff I’ve written hovers between 100-120 BMP.
I love those chords too! : ) They make my creative side of things go crazy when I hear them. It's funny how something you learn/hear at one time in your life reappears and mutates at another stage in your life. Music rules! Thanks again and rock on man\m/
Late Night Lessons, 😂 Yeah, I have a song that I wrote & got inspired on the intro riff & didn’t realize it. One day it dawned on me: it is the intro riff to a Hexanhaus song (Mike Wead) only it was REVERSED. In my mind, I reversed it when I “wrote” the riff. It was purely unintentional. It is a cool riff. It has a similar feel to the one from the Hexanhaus song. I doubt anyone would ever notice unless I told them it os a reversal of the other riff. But, at that point in my life, I was doing a lot of LSD. 😂 So, that might explain me reversing the riff in my mind. 🤣 I think I suffer from “musical madness.” 😳 In bed at night, I often play my songs/riffs in my head, analyze them & try to figure out ways to improve or arrange them. Sometimes my mind gets too occupied with it. Music is my passion, my therapy.
That's awesome man. : ) I can honestly say that music and the pursuit of improving kept me out of a lot of trouble when I was younger and in high school, when my buddies were out getting in trouble with the cops, my ass was usually home practicing. I didn't get weird until several years later in college. : ) lmao Peace buddy!
Yes he was and thank you so much! Vito was a MONSTER player and it's such a shame he just vanished and disappeared the way that he did. Thanks again and rock on!
Great vid Dave,am a big fan of Vitos playing, very underrated in my opinion. The two Whites. White LIon and Great White. Those two bands had hooks galore. If you can do a vid on the licks and riffs of Great White.🎸
Awesome channel my friend! Thanks for taking the time and putting forth the effort to make sure an informative video! You brought back some foggy memories with this post. I actually dated Vito's cousin for a few months in Vegas! Typical New York girl too... HA! I was in a band (different life) and she was a stripper, OF COURSE! Anyway, nice chic as strippers go. She was so proud of him... You're certainly blessed with a God given talent man... New sub here... Keep the faith and keep fighting the good fight. God bless and take care...

Correct but they did do more takes because Vito insisted.

Vito and Lynch, my two favorites hands down. BTw, Vito is my neighbor here in Staten Island and a true gentleman.
If he is your neighbour then please urge him for the sake of the people who miss his music to come back once again
Great job man. Thanks. Vito is mythic to me. His career so short like Jim Croce almost, but have us so much in that small window. I really believe Bratta displayed enough talent and ability that he could, should be considered among the greatest guitarists.
I totally agree!
And unlike someone like Croce or even Randy Rhoads, Vito's still with us and is almost "in hiding."
Which is sad and a little odd, but I'm sure he has his reasons why he did what he did, and in some weird way I respect him for it, even though I really miss hearing his music and would like some new music from Mr. Bratta.
: )
Thanks again and rock on!
Vito Bratta! One of the best guitarrists of the world!!!!
Thanks for this nice share. What an ingenious richness of harmony there is in Vito Bratta, isn't it?
Love that you have the Pride White Lion logo as your PC desktop! Nice touch! Oh and congrats on breaking 700 subscribers. Your channel is gathering momentum and set to take off🤟🏻🎸🎸🎸
Thanks again buddy and I felt that background on the laptop was fitting.
: )
Yes, it's really great to see this channel growing every day. I see loads of positive feedback and excitement - which makes all of the time and work totally worth it (to me).
Stay tuned and thanks again for the comments and support - you rock!
Thought the same thing when I was working through wait. Noticed a little Zeppelin "Ten Years Gone" in that progression.
Under rated frome day one.....his melodic surfing is incredible....thanks for the vid
I totally agree and thanks for watching and the comment!
Rock on!
Vito is awesome, thanks for doing this video..👍
Awesome playing brother!!!!
Lonley Nights and the solo are one of my favorite songs to play.
DB....vito is one of my all time favorites...remember their cover of "Radar Love"...WOW!!!.....rock on my brother!!!
Thank you so much and no offense to Golden Earring, but White Lion took that song and made it even better. KABOOM!
Vito's solo is outstanding, the drums sound amazing, and the vocals are rockin'.
That's one of the best covers EVER recorded (IMO).
: )
@@LateNightLessons ....AGREED!!!
So cool... big Vitto fan back in the day. Great vid...
Thank you so much and yeah, White Lion ROCKED!
: )
Yes ! more Vito Please!
Now I get to revisit this as a lesson!
Awesome job !!!!!
Subscribed! Excellent playing and analysis. Thanks!
Thank you so much and thanks for watching too!
: )
Stay tuned...
Damn I love this mans playing Vito is amazing wish he came out with more material!
I wish for that too!
He was so damn tasty and melodic with everything he played.
: )
Thanks for watching!
Great Dave - the ten years gone connection
Not sure if has been said in the comments already, the chords of "Wait" are very similar to the chord progression of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds". Vito was such a tasteful, creative, melodic player. Excellent video as always Dave. 👍🏼🎸
I LOVED his playing!!!
Always love that Guitar for the Practicing Musician Mag cover of Lynch & Bratta; the demon & angel; dark & light.
killer
sounds great with the wee taster at the beginning.
I learned a lot from a guitar world interview on how he played in a 3-piece.
keep up the,great work
Thanks and yeah, I always found really cool advice and ideas in the guitar magazines.
I miss Guitar and Guitar One.
They always had the greatest players and they'd have a song, lesson, and usually an interview too - so by the time you finished the magazine, you not only knew a little of their music, you also knew a little more about the player too.
Can’t get enough Vitto stuff!
Me too!
: )
I've already had more Vito requests, so there will totally be more of his music and ideas in the near future!
Stay tuned and thanks you!
I'm really digging these chord videos
Thank you so much!
Stay tuned for more lessons and videos!
: )
"Wait" produced my deep love for the minor 4 chord
The bridge section just blew my mind
It's such a great song and that section is one of the coolest parts of the song, but it's rather hidden!
: )
Rock on bro!
You are the best bro... thanks for your lesson..
vito was incredible; a once in a generation guitarist
Just viewed some of your vids, and was like man, it'd be cool if he did a Chords of White Lion, and then BAM, you did that already!! I had to sub!!
That's great to hear and thank you so much!
: )
Stay tuned for more lessons and videos and take care.
Thanks again!
More Vito PLEASE!!! I'm requesting Broken Home and Shes got Everything! Thanks in Advance..
I watched the 1st 30 seconds and already liked....
Great lesson/Review of those parts...you've got very inspiring content...great tone as usual David!! Regards from Uruguay!
Rock! \m/
Thank you so much!
: )
I just posted a new Vito Bratta lesson and good luck with your studies!
Rock on!
: )
Take your time working through some of this material and if something is too hard or tricky/stretchy to play, you can move around and try things that are easier to play/grab and then come back to the harder stuff later, once you've had some time building some strength and technique.
Vinnie is very underrated IMO!!! Another good video!
Thank you for the knowledge
You fricken nailed it!
DUDE, you are a madman. Love your playing. Vito rules!!! Thank you for this lesson! New subscriber 😁👍
I thought you were started with Wait’s intro but its ok. I love Vito, skillfull and melodic at the same time, only few guitar players does that.
Awesome Video!!
Vito is amazing!!
Thank you and I totally agree!
He's a monster player!
: )
Great video!
Vito was a monster player! This is great!
Thank you so much and for watching too!
Stay tuned...
@@LateNightLessons Sure thing! Great job on these videos by the way. Real simple and to the point. Would definitely like to see more on Vito if you have the time!
Thank you so much and you got it!
More Vito is coming ASAP!
: )
i love ur content man...very insightful
: )
They make my creative side of things go crazy when I hear them. It's funny how something you learn/hear at one time in your life reappears and mutates at another stage in your life.
Music rules!
Thanks again and rock on man\m/
Late Night Lessons,
😂
Yeah, I have a song that I wrote & got inspired on the intro riff & didn’t realize it.
😂
So, that might explain me reversing the riff in my mind.
🤣
I think I suffer from “musical madness.”
😳
In bed at night, I often play my songs/riffs in my head, analyze them & try to figure out ways to improve or arrange them. Sometimes my mind gets too occupied with it.
Music is my passion, my therapy.
That's awesome man.
: )
I can honestly say that music and the pursuit of improving kept me out of a lot of trouble when I was younger and in high school, when my buddies were out getting in trouble with the cops, my ass was usually home practicing.
I didn't get weird until several years later in college.
: ) lmao
Peace buddy!
Haha, thanks.now I need to go and watch White lion..I agree Vito was way underrated. Thanks for the video..
Heck yeah and I'll see what I can do!
: )
Thanks!
That ONE chord in Lady of The Valley!
Whoa...that's wickedly awesome and outstanding.
: o
Thanks for watching and for this comment too!
Take care and ROCK ON\m/
Very Cool!!!!! Keep the 80’s players coming!!!!! Maybe some Michael Schemker, Paul Chapman from UFO........
Thank you and speaking of Michael Schenker, I did create a Three-For-All lick lesson featuring him a month or so ago. Look around and you should be able to find it in the mess of vids.
: ) lol
Rock on!
That’s right......I had forgotten about that video!!!! Thanks!!!! Have you listened to UFO with Paul Chapman? He was also in another band called Waysted!!!!!
UFO rocked but I never listened to Waysted.
I'll check 'em out!
: )
