I remember watching Jeff and The Boys on Sky Sports. Hammer Tony Cottee was covering the game and when we were 3-0 down after 18 minutes, I thought the top of his head was going to fall of, so big was his grin. After Hughesie scored the winner, he looked as though someone had told him his dog had died.
Gosh remember this game. My youngest's birthday party. I was supposed to listening the DJ we'd hired for the afternoon but had half an ear on the radio!
I was about two rows back behind the goal (which was effectively below the pitch at the Boleyn) and had mates who were West Ham fans in the home end. When Defoe went through on goal at 3-0, I promised myself I would leg it up the steps as soon as it hit the back of the net and drown my sorrows in a nearby pub. He didn't score, it all changed and we went absolutely mental when Hughsie hit that winner. I remember standing next to a dad and his young son and telling the lad that he would always remember the day for as long as he lives. He must be in his late 20s/early 30s now and I bet he's watched this a few times! UTA
I lived in London. and went to this gutted to be losing but then! we we singing "we're going to win 4-3. and by heck we did now in Suffolk. forever a baggie just love the stripey shirts on the rampage! good old Hughes, sadly went pear shaped after this xx
