      If the outlet is below water it doesn't matter. The problem with too big outlet otherwise is that air will come in if the flow doesn't fill the pipe.
      If air enters the system it will accumulate at the highest point, and will eventually make it stop. It's smart to have a system to trap and potentially bleed of any air.

Yes it works for few minutes but eventually the flow of water either begins to flow in droples or the water in the barrel gets exhausted. And that's the reality of it...when tried.

      Its NRV... that hold back the water against gravity in the intake column. And the whole principle is make storage tank vacuum tight. The drum volume also act as storage buffer to maintain the constant flow..
      When you open the outlet valve, water rushes in due to level deference though the drum outlet. And this creates vacuum in the entire supply chain connected to inlet water column. The vacuum then sucks the water thru water column NRV from river or bore well ( as the inlet). Thus maintaining the flow. Pl note, outlet flow pipe dia must be smaller then inlet pipe.

    i watched the other clip ....the explanation is that one need to fill the water all through the system no matter what, opening valves needed at the beginning and at the end of the system as well as in the middle. the concept is negative pressure occurs while you open the valve on land. negative pressure will draw water from the pond to fill up the tank.

    The only way for this to work is if the out line is very large. The drop will make a vacuum pulling on the drop line or in line it should equalise and stop running. But is worth experimenting with. If you do please make a video so we can see your results. I use the air lift method. It uses atomized water and air to lift. It's lighter than water alone. It will float and bubble into a cistern.

      @accaciagame1706 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dano5562 Nah. You've been fooled. The outlet is actually lower than river water level. All you you need is the initial suction to get the flow going. A bit like you would do with a hose that goes up and then down.

    • @luckydubeinrc5165
      @luckydubeinrc5165 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@accaciagame1706 that is not correct... look again. Think of a boat motor drawing gas, from tank, if the tank has no bleed valve the tank will draw a vacuum. that pipe from the river is the filling pipe(aka vacuum fill inlet), the higher we have to lift the water from river more vacuum!!! untill you can even sqaush the drum, this works upto 30 ft!!! if drum is strong enough and holds enough water.

    • @ddyy5110
      @ddyy5110 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too am thinking on the siphone effect in that the outlet is lower than the inlet position. Because siphon works only if the outlet is in a lower than the inlet water level.another point i want to understand is in many similar videos, i observed that tge barrel should be full of water with out any air. If there is air i think it should not work. So i need these two explanations

    • @andak93
      @andak93 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have to think the engineering side of the system. The drum is acting as the pump. It does not matter if there is air or not as long as it is sealed after being filled with water. The outlet pipe need not be lower than the water level in the river. Once the outlet stopcock is opened water will flow out, creating negative pressure in the drum. This will in turn suck up the water in the river into the drum and out thru the outlet pipe.

      So here he has a drum. Then he has a three valve setup hooked up to the drum. One valve is on the bottom and there are two valves up top. Bottom valve has a pipe after it with a tee and a pipe coming out the top of the tee with a cap on the end of that pipe. The other open end of the tee has another length of pipe and a valve on the end. The First top valve is for air venting, it is located at the back. In the front, closest to source water is a 45 degree bend attached to an elbow coming off the valve. At the 45 degree bend, a pipe is installed to reach the source, this is the inlet. An appropriate filter may need to be installed, as debris would accumulate inside the drum over time. In this particular configuration it can be used without a filter and free flow is used to flush the drum continuously. The water is from a stream that is not very muddy at all. This system is expected to run without clogging for a number of years, until repairing the leaks and possibly changing the drum is required for preventative maintenance. Use ptfe thread tape and ball valve replacements if required. Joiners can be used to repair sections of pipe.

    Well done, but i think there is no need for the drum, but only pipes would do the work. Since the elevation of water as source is higher than the elevation of the output, it would work. But if the output elevation is higher than the source, it would not work without using a pump

    Just to be clear. This is not a pump, it is a siphon. The drum it to prime the system (fill it with water). The pressure at the outlet (if closed) is the difference in height between inlet and outlet. And of course the outlet must be lower than the inlet. If you could fill it with water a pipe along the ground will work just as well.

    • @compostsfertilizers5471

      There is nothing insulting here. But if you consider it a pump, where does the energy to pump water come from?
      If the answer is gravity, and there are no moving parts, it's a siphon.

    • @compostsfertilizers5471
      @compostsfertilizers5471 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AldriFerdig It's a vacuum system. Water is sucked from the river due to the vacuum created in the drum. the force of the water in the outlet stops air from sipping back hence water from the river raises to the drum.

    • @AldriFerdig
      @AldriFerdig 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@compostsfertilizers5471
      Apart from the detail that it's more correct to say that it's the air pressure that pushes the water into the drum, and further until it runs downhill, your description is correct.
      This is how a siphon works.
      Btw. there are no vacuum in the drum. A siphon can be used to lift water about 10 meters high, as long as the outlet is lower than the inlet. The limitation is that one atmosphere of pressure equals 10 meters of water.
      If it could pump water to a level higher than the input it would not be a siphon, but this system is a siphon. A hundred drums between the inlet and the outlet doesn't change this.
      There are gravity powered water pumps, but this isn't an example of one of those.

    For this siphon to work the water level in the river must be higher than the output to the field. With a foot valve at the input, no blue barrel is needed. No need to lift the barrel that high, only makes it more difficult to fill. No need for marer valve just at the output from the drum. No need for white container. No need for the vertical pipe.
    In short, one simple tube can do this. All the rest is just to get the tube filled with water.

      It is a siphon. As long as the outlet is lower than the inlet the middle part can be up to about 10 meters, as that is the water column corresponding to one atmosphere pressure.
      There are no absolute max lengths, but friction will eventually make it stop depending on the size of your tubing.

    I feel so impressed to Link up with people of great minds. my question is that what if I put several air bags along the bigger outlet pipe,will it increase the discharge pressure
    and also the standing long pipe,is it enclosed or opened because if it's closed, I think this necessitates putting a valve at the drum outlet because pressure in enclosed fluids is equally transmitted through the fluids. this means that without valve at outlet of drum, some water might be forced to go back into the drum once. thanks

      No tanks along the output pipe is needed. Only waste money. Dip the exit end into a bucket of water to prevent air leakin in from the outlet.
