I've received many comments about this, such as, "I'm just a fresher, what can I do?" and "Why is there so much hype?" Let's explore these questions.
Is this the end of the software engineer? Let's discuss.
I have over six years of experience in software engineering and have worked with many developers who have more than 20 years of experience in this industry. For this video, I've gathered thoughts from many people, including software engineers with over 30 years of experience from all around the world.
So, let's dive into what software engineers do:
Design
Develop (They spend most of their time checking the code directory, planning, and if they have any doubts, they use Google to fix the issue.)
Debug
Test (Create test cases and test multiple functions)
Document
Deploy
What does this AI do? It provides an interface that brings all these functions into one place. It has separate areas to create code, analyze code, and test after deployment.
Features include:
Own command line
Own code editor
Own browser
Initially, I needed to add some APIs, check my site performance, and provide documentation. The AI uses the browser to read docs, create code, debug, and test, showing the output. That's great!
But will it replace all software engineers? No. The human touch is critical in every aspect.
For example, this AI does what software engineers do, such as taking some data from old code, trying multiple times, and solving the code.
But what if the AI doesn't have the data to solve the code, or it's a first-time error? What does the AI do then?
Let's take a real-time use case!
WordPress and Shopify allow you to create a website within an hour. Did they completely replace web developers when they launched a few years back? No.
High-budget businesses need unique websites with specific functions. They won't use the same tools as low-budget businesses.
Chat GPT came in 2022. Did all software engineers lose their jobs? No. But it's beneficial to many people, including me.
For example, a few months ago, people thought content creation could be replaced by chat GPT. The idea was to create a script, use an AI tool for voice, post a video, and make money. Many people failed.
Why? How many of you have subscribed to AI-based channels? Probably 1 out of 10. I haven't subscribed to a single one. They're boring.
But Chat GPT helps me solve errors faster at work.
When did research into autonomous cars start? Any guesses? The 1930s. It's still not fully functioning, but some features, like reversing, are easy.
One last question. Do you think a high-priority company like HDFC would use AI to create code for transactions? As an employee of one of the top 500 Fortune companies and one of the world's top financial companies, I haven't seen a single person using chat GPT in the office.
Why? Because of security.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was ordered to pay $210 million to DXC Technology by a Texas court in a trade secrets case. The world is at that stage; it will not replace all engineers.
Even Cognition AI stated that it's not a replacement for developers. It's useful for developers but won't replace them.
So, don't believe the rumors. If you learn something, it won't be a waste. Focus on your effort, not on the output.
But work smart. Use the help of AI.

Yes it will finish off engineer dream for many IT people. It will replace/remove 80 engineers from 100 engineers in IT Industry. So going forward, IT industry progress with less number of High IQ Tech professionals. That’s all. Others can switch over to other streams slowly from now to less than 2 years.
AI is to fill the skill gaps we find in our day to day task and its not our replacement. AI is employee friendly not Owner friendly...
May be not completely replace but it will reduce the head count for sure and country like INDIA with huge population it's bad news. Initially infosys founder was not agreeing it but now in recent time evn infosys stated to train for ai. Singapore has introduced a separate scholarship for learning ai who are above 40age.

AI cannot replace developers, but will help developers to complete tasks in less time. So in future out of 100 developers only 50 developers are required to complete a project. Developers requirement will be 50% less in near future as everyone is learning AI and also using it daily may not be in their workplace but at home.

people should understand software engineering is not all about coding, it is just a part of software engineering, beyond coding there is a huge area in software engineering that we need human interaction compulsorily
Whatever it is definitely students joining in BE CS or IT will definitely get low. To much of anything is good for nothing. Likewise too much of AI and automation is good for nothing. Why because no one will get hope whether they will get job or not in IT. Or else what will happen if sudden layoffs happens. If they bought house by depending on salary if they are laydoff what will they do. So everyone will think about this here after and joining in IT or BE CS or else high amount course will definitely get reduced. And interest in the IT jobs will get reduce, why because each and every day we need to compete with AI and we are just humans we can't do that. Apart from that no one will ready to continue their work by getting fear that they will layoff or not. Its the time to start to learn some other skills apart from IT. Day by day everyone is loosing the hope on IT field why because they are not getting jobs even though if they are getting they can be simply layoff.

Here are my take. Change is constant and change is inevitable, whether it is good or bad.
So, yes, AI will assist us, it won't take away our jobs. But, Caution, the number of software engineers required for a project may go down. For example, a company books a mega deal for which it plans to hire 10k resources, if it was 2010, they may go with 10k to 11k resources, but if it is 2024 or 25, it would be only 7.5k, so what the rest of the crowd will do? Go and check new avenues, go to core engineering or try something in AI itself. AI is already crowded.
Abi mentioned about self driving cars. Good example. But, with advancement in science and technology, things won't take 100 years, it will be pretty fast. It all depends on individual decisions, corporate governance and government policies.
One thing is for sure, we are heading into dark space.
Quantum computing, they said may take 100 years. Now, they say it is within reach and we can see it in action in 10 years.

The use of AI has constantly increased in our organization. We started with 3 people and grew to 10 people, but we stopped at this number and instead of hiring 20 more. AI usage increased our productivity enough to compensate.
I do feel AI is stealing our jobs, and with AGI around the corner, false hopes may hurt us more than hard facts.
I already have a new business model:
