    Just staring down the rabbit hole of Home Assistant and your videos are BRILLIANT! I'm binge watching and following all the beginers tutorials (playing as I go) after playing for WEEKS and getting nowhere.
    I've added a few intergrations (and have no idea where from) but I really needed to start from the ground up. Keep up the good work and here's to an easter weekend of more tutorials and a working HA system. Now I've repaired my Unify system I can intergrate that soon (he hopes lol!)

    This is one of the best videos I’ve seen on how to set up HA if you’re not a technical expert. And I’ve watched lots of HA videos! I love that you show what it looks like when things don’t go as expected and how to work your way out of the hole.

    Great video, very helpful. One thing irked me: you say we should check all the boxes before HACS can be installed, because we know what it all means 'because we're smart'.
    We may or may not be smart, but one thing is certain: we're 'BEGINNERS': your video title invited us specifically! One checkbox I did not understand, is the one saying there are no add-ons in HACS. Whilst I can dimly make a guess that this means there's no official Home Assistant add-ons in HACS, that very same guess seems invalidated by the next checkbox which is kind of redundant to the previous one, if I indeed guessed the meaning of the previous one. So yeah: would really have appreciated a little explanation there.

    All 5 installed! Thanks! Ready for more videos. I'd really like to learn about how to properly name Z-Wave/Zigbee entities in HA, and how to setup groups. So far all my devices have weird ID names so I don't even want to start on groups yet, and if I rename them, what breaks? Why so many places to name?

    • @MarkWattTech
      @MarkWattTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice one Jason :) I will be covering YAML, customization and entities in a video which should help clear all of this up.

    Another brilliant video! All my SSH and Samba share stuff set up easily. You've come along at just the right time for my HomeAssistant journey.
    Any chance you could try to cover setting up ZWave devices on HA? Zigbee seems to be quite straightforward, but Zwave seems a bit opaque.

    What are the best bulbs to purchase so that hone assistant can detect them?

    • @MarkWattTech
      @MarkWattTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends what route you want to go down to be honest. Do you want local only control? And what protocols do you want to use? (WiFi / Zigbee).
      A couple of example of bulbs I personally make use of :
      Shelly bulbs. Shelly do some great bulbs which HA automatically detect. They use WiFi and can be local or optionally use Shelly cloud.
      Novostella do some good Full RGB bulbs which are fairly cheap and use Tuya or Local tuya to connect them in HA.
      Phillps Hue via huebridge and HA integration, or use a Zigbee usb gateway such as the conbee II and connect directly to the bulb (i use conbee for my hue bulbs).

    • @MarkWattTech
      @MarkWattTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks Bruno. The HA terminal is a little limited and I don’t think you can add htop and other bits like that (more packages etc). I haven’t tried doing a huge amount in the HA terminal so I could be wrong.
      Best place to start would be checking the terminal documentation for what it supports. If you find anything cool let me know :D

    So, just curious, why did you choose the Home Assistant community add-on of SSH with the security score of 1 vs the Official add-on SSH with the security score of 6. That would seem to be counter-intuitive unless there is some other reason that you didn't mention.

    • @andreoppermann6709
      @andreoppermann6709 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The community add on is more powerful. If you do sth wrong with it you could damage your systems. Hence the lower security score.

    • @TTechGuy
      @TTechGuy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andreoppermann6709but without highlighting what more powerful things will be done, it still doesn't make sense to make it as a suggestion. Especially without the caveat that one is inherently more dangerous than the other.

    Thanks for all these videos, really useful. I've got a bit of an issue with HACS though as I seem to be in an endless loop of "HACS is disabled (ratelimited)" for the Github API calls, or HACS not loaded. I've seen in the HACS guide something about the intiial install will trigger the Github limit but I've had it installed now for about 3 days and I've restarted HA probably 10-12 times for other things in that time. Sometimes it seems to be running but as soon as I try and do anything in HACS like install an Integration, the integration installs pending reboot and then I reboot and HACS is disabled again. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
