  • Join us for an Italian Food Tour at Central Market in Florence, Italy as we sample numerous savory and sweet dishes on the second level of the market. Prior to arriving at the Central Market (Mercato Centrale) we had this idea that it would be upscale and touristy with prices to match but were pleasantly surprised by how affordable it was to grab tasty bites on a budget. We ended up spending just over 23 Euros total for the two of us to sample a lot of different food at Florence Central Market (Mercato di San Lorenzo). Here is the list of food items we had at the market:
    1) Parmigiano Reggiano (parmesan cheese cubes)
    2) Burrata sandwich with prosciutto
    3) Trapizzino (pizza dough with a stuffed filling)
    4) Arancini (crispy rice balls with a savory filling)
    5) Cannoli dessert with gelato inside
    6) Malaga gelato (rum and raisin flavored ice cream)

Italian Food Tour at Central Market in Florence, Italy Video Transcript:
It is lunchtime in Florence and we are back at Central Market (Mercato Centrale / Mercato di San Lorenzo). We were here yesterday to buy some produce and a few groceries to cook an Italian meal at home. And then we noticed that on the second floor they have a whole bunch of restaurants and deli shops so we figured let's come back and actually have lunch here.
That is the plan for today. We've just arrived but we're going to have a little wander through to see what is available and then we'll start buying little bites. We've got to scout it out really well before we pick.
We've got our first two items. That kind of startled you there. Yeah, I was admiring my cheese. We got a little cone of parmigiano. Parmesan. Parmigiano Reggiano. This was 3.50 in Euros. The best part is it comes in these massive cubes and you've got this little fork to pierce them with so look at the size of this.
All of the cheeses, the meats, the pastas, the pizzas. Wow. The gelatos. It is like this is really good. Italy is making me chubby.
And you know what is next. This little thing. This little thing. I believe this was called Burrata. And it looks like it this looks like focaccia bread or something. It has kind of been made into a sandwich. It is a sandwich. It has prosciutto. I'll kind of lift it up here so you can see. It appears I could be wrong but it appears to have a some salad. Some salad. Ensalada. I think there is some creamy cheese as well. It was 6 Euros.
We found our next dish. This is called Trapizzino. And it looks amazing. Basically this is pizza dough in the form of a triangle and then it has been stuffed with filling. You can choose what filling you want. They have a whole bunch to choose from but we went with the eggplant and the tomato sauce a little bit of pesto and then parmesan cheese on top coming in at 4 Euros.
Moving on to snack number four. So this is something we've seen a few times and we've wanted to try it. And we've never had it. It is basically a giant crispy rice ball (arancini). Inside there is different flavors. We got the one with prosciutto for 3 Euros.
Alright we're moving on to dessert. What do you got in your hands?
We got two desserts. We did. But let's start with this one. So this is the Cannoli at 3 Euros. And instead of being stuffed with a cream of ricotta it is actually gelato made with ricotta cheese and we got rum and raisin gelato called Malaga at 3.50 Euros.
That brings our total to 23 Euros for two people. Basically 11.50 per person. We got to eat a lot of like amazing delicious food. I mean this far exceeded my expectations.
This is part of our Travel in Italy video series showcasing Italian food, Italian culture and Italian cuisine.

Watching this video is making me hungry, but most of all so very glad the apartment I will be staying in when I am there is 2 minutes from the Mercato Centrale. Shopping for groceries and taking them back to the apartment to cook or taking advantage of the all those choices upstairs, WOW. Heaven Italian style!!!!! We were there in 2018 and truly enjoyed the market, it really is great value for money and made me want to have an apartment where I could cook this next trip. Looking forward to 2 weeks of living like a local.

I absolutely love the central market, there are so many incredible choices that you can spend an hour just figuring out what you want and everything is top quality. It is quite expensive though, being from Florence myself I know a lot of other places that are way cheaper. But it is very nice to have all that amazing food and beverage all in one place for sure.

I love all the "marketplaces " you find. They remind me of a larger version of Quincy market at Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston Massachusetts. They all have the converted warehouse feeling with loads of sky light streaming in, with loads of people milling about and eating... and then of course there are the vendors with their luscious tempting spreads.

Well....Sant'Ambrogio it's a normal district. In the morning you can visit the market. You can try the "Lampredotto" near the church ;) There is also a flea market not so far. This zone, during the evening, it's full of restaurants where you can have an "aperitivo" on the street. Students and workers are all there.

This video made me very hungry 😂 I am so sad you said Rome didn’t impress you, but I understand why. It is one of my favourite cities, but last time I visited in July and it was horrible. The first two times I visited in March - the weather was perfect, there were no queues and we managed to see everything without crowds. However, in July, it was so crowded that we couldn’t even approach Di Trevi. The next day we started the tour at 7 am and managed to see everything without people. I know you visited in February, and that Di Trevi scene looked like July :D
Kisses from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. I really enjoyed your Mostar videos and I hope you will give Sarajevo a go :)

Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos probably genetically modified food, garnished with pesticides, or antibiotics, sulfates, tons of sugar, fat and starch, colors, chemicals, etc. all “delicious” and “healthy” products sold by default across American markets and restaurants😂😂😂😂 producing the “very health”, fat and sick American population that ultimately need to use an abominable, horribly expensive and useless because low quality health care system to...cure themselves, when they can afford it!

Italian food is indeed the best under all point of views. Starting with the freshness, quality and variety of food. Ending with the way of cooking which doesn’t cover up the actual test of food, like French do with their tons of sauces, but amplify by keeping as fragrant as possible and by complementing with the right delicious condiments.!
Thumb up for the incomparable Italian gastronomy to any other one, as much as good can possibly be.
PS I hope that the new Trumps’s trading agreements with Italy will not destroy the quality of Italian food/gastronomy by allowing introduction of genetic manipulation, Monsanto’s seeds, meat with steroids, antibiotics, hormones, etc.!
Is appropriate to say “viva lItalia, abbasso gli USA!”

Parmisan ( parmigiano reggiano ) cheese is strong based on the time of maturation .
To eat alone as that cone it's used slightly seasoned Parmesan (12 months) which has a less intense taste , while on pasta or pizza or or whatever you want , it's used the tastiest one (24 - 36 months maturation
      or even more ).
