Florence is an amazing city. I went there three years ago. I went to that market but only until Mario’s that is a block away opened for lunch. Their specialty is Florentine steak and ossobucco. Shared a tiny table with three other people. All food enthusiasts. The couple across from me from NY got the steak. The chef from Japan next to me came all the way from Turin to Florence specifically to get their ossobuco. Which is what I got too. Stellar. Glad you got to experience the specialty of Florence

This made me want to go back to Florence so bad! I only got to spend 1 day there. We went there basically just to see David. When we were finished there, we walked down the street and into the Piazza del Duomo. I will never forget it. So big and so beautiful!!

Bravi! I subscribe and love your videos! I'm thrilled to see you in Florence, where my wife and I have lived for five years. Glad you enjoyed Mercato Centrale and all its great food, I think Pank has the best bread in Florence. Also very happy you liked the Bistecca Fiorentina; Tuscans are great meat-eaters and this is the epitome. It's been rainy here lately, but I hope you were still here to enjoy the city today (Monday) when we had a little break. Enjoy the rest of your visit to Florence, Tuscany, and Italy-Ciao!

Loved your video! I am from Florence and the Central Market is amazing!
The only point is that Bistacca alla Fiorentina is not what you had! It is Bistecca, but in order to be Bistecca alla Fiorentina it must be at least 1.5 kilograms and it must be 4 fingers high. Usually in restaurants they sell what you had, but it usually is for turists.
No critique, it is just to make it clear and do not get misled when you come back to Florence. ☺️

    • @paolazzzo

      (Volevo scriverlo io 😂)
I add that "bistecca alla fiorentina" is a T-bone, so it aslo has fillet, and the only meat accepted is "chianina" (a tuscany breed of cow).
But don't worry, most of italians donesn't know these things.

Great video. I was there 10 days ago, except for Da Nervone where half of the customers where locals and the prices are reasonable, the market seemed like a tourist trap to me, most of the visitors didn’t speak any Italian and the prices are higher than other places. I found better products and prices at local Conads and Coops or at the market on the other side of the historic center. You are right, the bistecca alla fiorentina is one of the best steaks I ever had as well. You didn’t try the trippa alla fiorentina, the bollito or the bombolone, 3 delicious local foods.

Burrata is just fresh mozzarella, hand-formed into a cup shape, filled with heavy cream, and then sealed up with the cream inside the ball of fresh mozzarella. The longer it sits, the more the cream turns to cheese, and eventually, it would become fresh mozzarella all the way through. Needless to say, it doesn't ship well.
The way you guys had it, with the tomato and basil salad underneath, and a variety of delicious cured meats, is the perfect way to eat it. The only other things you could want are some nice Italian bread, a little extra virgin olive oil and a little aged balsamic vinegar in which to dip the bread. Perhaps a little piece of honeycomb, a bit of currant jam or quince paste for a bit of a sweet counterpoint. Top it off with a rich and flavorful glass of jammy red wine, and, if you died after a meal like that, you'd die a happy person.

We were just there last month. We had been a few years ago, but the upstairs wasn’t built out or we didn’t see it. I had such amazing wine a super Tuscan that was amazing. Those rice balls were actually very good. I could t do the tripe however.

I was sad to see you guys didn’t get any paninis. The paninis in Florence were probably some of my favorite things I had while I was there. There are also these secret late night pastry shops that are so great!

One thing did notice, was so many of the stalls are operated by obviously non locals. I wanted to purchase Tuscan olive oil and was a bit worried I might get oils that were mixed from elsewhere. We did enjoy tasting the different flavored and found the Tuscan one was actually peppery. It was so good. We bought 5 for gifts!

Hats off to Eric for trying the tripe (knowing what it is). In the UK 40 years ago, tripe and opinions was common as a meal. Nowadays tripe is only available as pet food. Not sure why.

We were there last year in the same market.. and really really enjoyed the lambredottio The soft textured tripe with the crusty loaf was delicious. We were too full to try the steak Florentine and it was way too expensive for our budget. I still dream of the roast porchetta sandwiches... Yumm.. tuscan food and wine... la dolce vita.

Schiacciata is now my favorite bread, whether plain or with herbs. Mercato Centrale should be a UNESCO heritage site, IMO. :) PanyDory is supposed to have really good schiacciata and cantucci (I'll try it soon), but I walk all the way to Panificio Ghibellina for both those things. OMG. Split the bread, drizzle a bit of good taggiasca olive oil on the cut face and toast it in a pan. Have it with a bit of smoked bufala, some burrata to offset the smokiness, fresh Confanetto cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, good balsamic, sea salt and pepper... It's possibly the best veggie sandwich ever.

Should have got something from that pasta place, when I was in florence I had the pesto pasta from there and it was unbelievable. It was 6 eur and one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten went back one more time that week for the same thing. I have had that pasta on my mind ever since.
