Terrific match. I have played Brad & Autumn on numerous occasions back in the day (Paul Cheon too, come to that) and they are all great folk to play against. Brad has always been awesome skillwise, and much more relaxed face-to-face than his poker-face demeanour here suggests. Nice to see him finally pushing through to the top levels. Autumn has improved exponentially in the last few years: fantastic to see her as a stable performer right at the top of Magic.
Bit weird that Brad has the Saltire but Autumn has the Union Jack, not make more sense if either both had the Union Jack or Autumn had the St George's Cross?

Because when you board wipe rdw the game is effectively over. Chandra can win a game on her own but it takes time, which gives other decks chances to remove her. Muxus is a otk card and with skirk and matron there's a lot of ways to kind of cheat it out.
The fact that they talk about the different tactical options regarding the uw player, while with the goblin player it's only "will she be lucky, topdeck a Muxus and win" shows so clearly how much muxus needs to go... Honestly how could they ban winota and simultaneously introduce the monored counterpart xP

i don't play a ton of historic but from what i understand most of its decks are either the goblins one you see here or simic + x midrange with uro. a typical draw-go control deck will just get outvalued by either, but brad's deck has some specific maindeck inclusions (namely grafdigger's cage and cast out) to give him the edge in those matchups.
UW is fair magic, and the top decks don't play fair magic anymore: they get too much mana advantage too easily, either through ramp or cheating creatures, and Uro Is a Nightmare for every deck to face. But apparently his UW build was perfect to face against Sultai and Goblins. He has a bad matchup against Sacrifice, but all the Yasharn decks made sure Sacrifice wouldn't get past the initial phase. He brought a deck to beat the tournament meta
Pretty sure there was a slight misplay at @34:57. Autumn should have cast Muxus first, and after resolved, then hit the graffdigger's cage with Cratermaker. That allows the Cratermaker to remain in play and attack if Barclay had a counterspell(which he did).
I think it’s the nature of the matchup. Brad was basically a wall of counter spells and board wipes. There’s not a lot of surface level strategy that the commentators can latch onto; Control players usually go deep in the tank.
The same could be said for 2015 Ivan Floch vs Jackson Cunningham the non control player is often seen as the underdog and thus rooted for. Oh yeah Ivan Floch won with 0 creatures mainboard 2 mutavaults and an elixir of immortality to shuffle his board wipes, draw spells and counterspells. Goblins wasn't really good either and the greatest strength of the deck is also its greatest weakness, it is super luck based. Autumn's greatest merit in this tournament is that she reduced the luck factor on goblins to the minimum by adding a lot of card advantage engines to it.

@@vibritannia5381 Yes, they are. I made a Chandra planeswalker deck that beats goblin decks 12 of 13 times. I almost never lose to them. All you need are the acolyte of flames, the novice pyromancer, the awakened inferno, 4 Chandra elemental cats, 3 torches of defiances, 2 angers of the gods, and two flame sweeps. The key is to the 4 mind stones and four elemental cats. That allows if you have a 4 mana cost Chandra and her regulator, access to 6 mana on turn 3, and 11 mana on turn 4. I out ramp rap decks. This deck took me to top 500 mythic. I haven't played in a few days, so I'm probably much lower now, but it's good.

Control players do have greater patience, I must say. But games with control with soo many counters and removal spells just aggravate me to the core. Especially when they have that perfect draw with EVERY answer they need. Which feels all too common. But overall, you're right. It's inevitable. Control decks will always exist. Being able to play around them does take skill and knowledge, BUT it mostly relies on what deck you brought also.
@@randyrhoads4737 one tip I'd have for your main complaint is to start realizing when a control deck has locked you out. The thing is a good aggro deck with a similarly perfect draw is going to steam roll you just as effectively, it's just going to take a lot less time. Realizing when you're too far behind against a control deck and just conceding can save a lot of frustration over just sitting there hoping the control player drew 5 lands in a row and that you somehow get something passed their counters.

She certainly had a chance and was never necessarily locked out until the very end. She had hope. It all came down to the right, last minute sequence of draws.

UW control was a tourney meta call. Brad knew people were going to play decks that are soft to counterspells. Go ahead and play this deck on the ladder - I'll bet my gonads that you won't have a fun time getting beaten up by Randos/Jund/Uro piles. Also keep in mind that if UW or any control deck isn't playable, you'd have an even more disgusting meta.

Even if i win against a pile of control i feel like i lost 5 years of my life from how much i just wanted to concede out of frustration and boredom

@@Josh17656 I totally get it. I really do. I have control decks too and yes, I do have fun with them. I suppose I lack the shear amount of patience CGB is soo good at exhibiting. Lol. Control players do have greater patience, I must say. But games with control with soo many counters and removal spells just aggravate me to the core. Especially when they have that perfect draw with EVERY answer they need. Which feels all too common.
But overall, you're right. It's inevitable. Control decks will always exist. Being able to play around them does take skill and knowledge, BUT it mostly relies on what deck you brought also.
@@randyrhoads4737 one tip I'd have for your main complaint is to start realizing when a control deck has locked you out. The thing is a good aggro deck with a similarly perfect draw is going to steam roll you just as effectively, it's just going to take a lot less time. Realizing when you're too far behind against a control deck and just conceding can save a lot of frustration over just sitting there hoping the control player drew 5 lands in a row and that you somehow get something passed their counters.
@@Josh17656 Yeah, you're absolutely right. But sometimes it comes down to being able to drop a haste creature for the win and you just can't get it down. Like what happened to Autumn. She certainly had a chance and was never necessarily locked out until the very end. She had hope. It all came down to the right, last minute sequence of draws.
This new meta is just soo much disgusting .
on one side aggro deck that cheats broken thing on the board like it's normal and on the other side control deck that live just to deny any play .

Un mazzo aggro con così tanto card advantage non piace manco a me. Quanto al control... Ci sono sempre stati fatti così. Poi può non piacere lo stile e lo capisco, il midrange manca pure a me!
UW control was a tourney meta call. Brad knew people were going to play decks that are soft to counterspells. Go ahead and play this deck on the ladder - I'll bet my gonads that you won't have a fun time getting beaten up by Randos/Jund/Uro piles.
Also keep in mind that if UW or any control deck isn't playable, you'd have an even more disgusting meta.
@@Sosroseno Are you blind ??? he plays main grafdigger's cage just to prevent rakados,sultai and jund plus many of his removal are exile effect so bye bye kroxa uro and folks ,every other card in his deck is just to forbidden you any other action, so basically as you can see in his match he can't lose(unless he draws really bad).

But I’m sure if using they is difficult you could use other pronouns to refer to a non binary person like autumn
