*You guys have probably noticed there is no video for this one. While I contemplated making this a giant 40 minute discussion with a bunch of edits, I really did...well... in all honesty it wasn't viable for me to do so with this film. Not only that, but I've been trying to not get a stressful when I go to edit videos and so I decided to just do this. And usually, if you're an older viewer, you're used to maybe a couple videos a year being simple back drops like this. As for the "massive 40 minute review where I watch it multiple time, front and backwards + a category by category breakdown and throwing in the kitchen sink too" well not sure when that'll be out. It took me MONTHS to do the first film like that, so I imagine it'll be in 2020 when you'll be seeing my mega review for Heaven's Feel II. So I decided to do this to tide you all over, it's just a simple first impressions of the film and my thoughts on most of the scenes and such in the film. Also, if you're still reading this, I'll be watching Oath Under Snow and doing a video on it as well as one for Absolute Demonic Front for good measure. It's something you've been asking for and I am here to deliver.*
Interesting. Regarding the finger sucking, it is pretty spicy and I can certainly see the argument that it was overdone. In the artbook, Sudou, the director was asked specifically about that scene and gave 3 reasons for it. 1. He wanted to show that Shirou was not accustomed to matters of the flesh. One could read a number of other reasons into this; juxtaposition of Shirou’s bashfulness with Sakura’s experience being just one. 2. He wanted to show that mana transfer can be done through fluid exchange, which wasn’t shown in UBW due to censorship, and 3. He wanted the later scene where Shirou and Sakura make love to be an act of affection, not one precipitated by mana needs. At the same time he felt that Shirou and Sakura’s relationship needed physical bonding. I particularly agree with him on the latter point. Heaven’s Feel is brilliant in its juxtaposition of the dark ugliness of the war (which was presented as “heroic” in the previous routes) with the warmth of home and family and domestic tranquility. And I also feel it calls back visually to the scene in Presage Flower where Shirou watches Sakura tasting the soup. A sort of Chekhov’s Lip Focus, if you will. Sudou is masterfully bookending little details like that and he layered Presage Flower with some of the greatest and most subtle foreshadowing for Spring Song. I look forward to sharing that masterpiece with you all next year. I will also say I think in your discussion of the rain scene and comparison to Re;Zero is a little off. That scene is one of the pivotal scenes of Heaven’s Feel, if not the most important, because Shirou diverges from his previous idea of what being a Seigi no mikata is. Any “confession” happening in the scene is secondary to the broader thematic import. Not meaning to bash on you, I get you only have a limited time to work with but that struck me as something that was glossed over.
Ah yeah, why aren't you the TH-camr haha? That was a beautiful comment, you are much better with words than I am. But yes, the Re:Zero comparison is a little off, but when I saw that it gave me weird vibes and the only thing I could think of was ReZero. But yes, those are good reasons indeed for him to want to show that, though I think right now I would still say it's a little too... anime cliche sexy time stuff for me. And yes, what's funny is while saying that, I was thinking, "There is a reason for this, I shouldn't be so dismissive of it, even though I'm not quite understanding the point... maybe I'm not seeing it from the right perspective just yet."
SeaTactics Heh, thank you; I may be a TH-camr someday if I can publish my writing. ✍️ I fully get where you’re coming from. I’ll admit I’m biased towards Heaven’s Feel, as it’s my favorite work of fiction PERIOD, not just favorite anime, and Sudou puts the same amount of love into everything so far. And yet it’s quite possible that the best is yet to come.
So yeah Shirou and Sakura is what if Adrian and Marinate hooked up (Same VAs that voiced in both Fate and Miraculous Ladybug). Sorry if you didn’t caught the reference.
Well... I saw that movie for the first time around February and... I've watched it like 16 times already, and even translated it in my country... so I probably know most of the dialogue lines. So I can say... this movie is fu@#!ng amazing, i love it. But it's not perfect, it has some quite visible bad exposition lines like... in two short scenes, and have like... five cheezy lines... and thats all. Animation, story, character development and everything else is amazing. 9/10
I agree, it's virtually perfect honestly. Next week I'm talking about the other half of the film and I am really excited to see what you all will think about what I say in that. The movie also gave me that "post blockbuster amazing movie" feeling you get when you've seen something truly spectacular.
I just finished the trilogy and this is one of my fav trilogy of all time, after the third film I want more fate content pls lmk what else mimics this quality
Just some thoughts. I was somewhat concerned with how they were going to handle this part of the visual novel. The middle of the route is a little bit slow pacing wise after the confrontation at the Einzbern castle. I thought the did a really good job of adapting it by having the battle be the halfway point of the film. The rest of the events leading up the Sakura's transformation don't have to last as long and you don't have to add much to fill time. As VN reader, I did think they should have kept some of the scenes pertaining to Illya and Kirei's own development in the route. It is somewhat subtle in the VN, but here it is almost non-existent. Those are things they could, with some work, rectify in the final film. Cheers. :)
Damn, do you think we'll be getting that development in the third film? Also, they may not since Fate/Zero has lots of development for Kirei, and I feel like I know exactly who that man is.
@@SeaTactics I don't know if it will; but, with some good directing, I don't see why it couldn't be in the final film. For example, this second one actually moved some of the Illya scenes that would have been in the first film's time frame to the beginning of the movie. That makes a little more sense as Illya has more focus here than the first film.
I agree with Flood as a VN reader, and actually hope that Kirei gets the necessary material. It’s true that he got a lot of development in Fate/zero, but you don’t REALLY know him until Heaven’s Feel is done, IMO.
SeaTactics Kirei was developed pretty well in Fate/Zero, but he gets a lot of more development and backstory in HF, most of which happens in the latter half of HF, and so hopefully they can incorporate that into movie 3 with the limited runtime they have, since it'll be really important for that movie in particular.
Interesting fact about Archer: He's the same persona in every route. I mean... he was summoned in Fate route, when he died there he was summoned in UBW route and after that in HF etc. Archer in HF lived and remembered things in two previous routes.
@@HeroEmiya I wouldn't consider it as a bullshit. There are few hints in Fate/Grand Order (Emiya Interlude) and Fate/EXTRA (when you chose Nameless) that this theory is true. And if you go deep on Archer's character, every decision he mades, in that case sort of makes sense.
@@HeroEmiya Still... Nasu didn's say at loud if this theory is true or not, he's keeping it secret or wants us all to decide what is true or not, he wants our own opinions from us. I believe that this is true. When THAT scene in a movie happend I felt very emotional because for me this Archer is the same Archer we know from UBW, I wouldn't feel the same if I would though diffrently.
That's is so cool to think about. I think I may talk about something similar to that in the second part of this video, so if you can tell me if I'm wrong on that when we get there. But that really buts perspective on a lot of things, so that's really cool.
I thought movie was amazing overall but if I can have some complains - it would be weird pacing in the first 30-40 minutes and scene that follows right after big fight in the forest where Shirou comes home to Sakura. That one was so horrible it actually took me out of the film for a while lol
Interesting, I think for me it flowed rather nicely. My main complaints often were weird fetishy stuff or bad dialogue, I'll see if I can pick up on it with a rewatch.
It was definitely abrupt. I thought the humor worked pretty well on a thematic level, but can see how it would be confusing. As a VN reader, I theorize and hope that they might actually revisit the intervening time in Spring Song, for reasons.

that finger scene is in the Vn and a few times actually
The scene of Shirou decapitating Sakura is a nod to the Superhero ending in the vn version of HF.

Sakura becoming the yundere
When I was watching, that what I was thinking. Of course, I think she's more than just a basic Yandere, but your mind can't help but drift haha.
