    Mine is on 295,000. Totally reliable in last 7 years. I do look after it, services early, every 10k. Gearbox Transmission service every 100k . Timming chain at 200k but they said it was in good shape. Never gonna sell it. I recomend full emmision delete to stop dpf cat egr getting bunged up with black carbon soot. Plus a remap. Mine is running about 360 hp 520lbs. Can do a bit more but i backed off for durability, exhaust temps were too high. 34mpg is low, i get 40s now and mid 50s on the highway. Great car.

      @brandonrivera2489 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is impressive! Where are you located? Would love to keep mine running this long and I know a delete is necessary for that to happen. At what mileage did you delete and tune?

      Is that 295 000 miles or kms?

    • @hungrysurfer9471
      @hungrysurfer9471 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mrbokke81 well now its reached 304,000 km. And i just fitted E.Primacy tyres. Highway fuel consumption is in 60s mpg now. Town mpg is high 40s. This summer im driving all over Europe, Turkey Italy Portugal. Probably gonna add well over 10,000 km in July and August. I cant recommend E Primacy yet. Need to drive them more km. But first impressions are amazing fuel consumption, with scuttleshake on bumpy roads mid corner and poor wet weather performance in very heavy rain, aquaplaining. Light rain is manageable, slow down with these tyres because they have less wet grip (Only 6mm thread depth brand new). This tyre really needs 8mm or much more thread depth to help disperse water in heavy rain. Steering weight is noticeably lighter in dry conditions and even worse in wet weather.

      @@hungrysurfer9471 my goodness that's impressive. I've been driving a 520d for years and I'm feeling like a serious upgrade. The 535d certainly sounds reliable!

    • @hungrysurfer9471
      @hungrysurfer9471 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mrbokke81 Thanks martin. Just wondering what sort of mpg do you get in town and on the motorway with your 520d. When i first got mine town was 30s mpg and motorway 40s mpg. Now its much better 40s and 60s mpg after all the mods mentioned above. Have you ever maxed out the top speed ? Can your reach 140 mph ?
      My 535d has been reliable thanks to a bit of preventative maintenance. The rear suspension is a self leveling system that needs maintenance and some seals / fluids. I did those every 125k. They were not yet knackered but were going to need work soon. Right rear hub went at 280k but i chose to change both left and right hubs.
      My thinking is 2 important factors. First is that since they cost a lot of money to buy new and then they depreciate massively year 1 to 5. If I spend money on looking after it properly, it might last 15 to 20 years. If I invest in looking after it so it lasts, the depreciation years 6 to 20 is so much lower. Can you imagine loosing 40k per car 3 or 4 times in 20 years if you owned 4 cars. So you save a fortune keeping 1 car long term.
      Second factor is I dont like the way the new version drives and I hate the technology. If BMW brought back the nice steering feel, round dials and gave you a option to remove all the technology id consider trying one. But my 535 is much nicer to drive than the new version and has simpler less tech. Plus better fuel consumption with a bigger tank. Thats why I want to keep mine forever, its a much better car to drive as a daily than the new model. I have tried new 540d, 330d both (f31 & g21). BMW removed steering feel and made it too light. Plus added tech which i dont want on the car like steering that steers itself into the center of a lane and hitting a cyclist you were trying to steer around. Or braking for no reason at the wrong moment when there is nothing infront of you.
      My neighbour has a mint E30 325i from the 1980s. He bought it new and looked after it. He said the steering and handling is amazing. Hes never gonna sell it.

    I have a 2015 X5 M40d thats the same engine in an X5 with a true twin turbo. 313 bop 630 nm torc. It’s a beautiful car.a great cruiser with plenty of power and masses of torc. Over here we also have the M50d which is again the same 3 litre straight 6 diesel. With over 400 hp and over 800 nm of torc. I know diesels aren’t popular in the US, but in a country where we dont really do bit gasoline engined cars because of fuel cost, diesels over a great economical and powerful alternative. I also love the way they drive and pull with lots if low down power, it just feels so sweet

      I have a 2009 535d here in England and love everything about it close to 300 HP and 485 lb/ft of torques, it is very fast, very quiet and overtakes are measured in minus numbers :-) One very important fact about the DPF is to keep them in good shape you have to get the exhaust pipes heated up by driving occasional longer distances at higher speeds so that the particles are burnt off and thrown out the back of the exhaust as dust. Driving them around town at 30mph only without getting them up to temp' is not a good thing as the particles end up like tar slowing down the gasses from exiting the pipes.

    Beautiful as it is, that car should be having its second transmission fluid change at 120K.
    BMW's "lifetime transmission fluid" guidance is a crock of shit. I just drained the pan on my 328d with 72K, and lots of unpleasant black stuff came out with the once-amber fluid. And remember that mine is only digesting 2/3 the engine torque of that straight six.
    Let the owner know that he needs to pony up for the service now, or his ZF 8 speed will soon become a very expensive problem.

    • @brarautorepairs
      @brarautorepairs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is simply not true. The fluid doesn't brake down the way it did in older cars. When we had transmissions without lockup, conventional base stock oil and bands, changing fluid was a part of regular maintenance. With newer electronic transmissions combined with better fluids, you really don't need to change your fluid in your transmission. What you do need to do, however, is replace the transmission once its useful life is over. The number of kilometers a transmission lasts normally comes down to the amount of heat that the transmission has been exposed too.

    • @morganlingsweiler9813
      @morganlingsweiler9813 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@brarautorepairs the manufacturer of these transmissions, ZF, recommends fluid changes as early as 60k miles, so I'm sorry but saying you don't need to change the fluid is incorrect.

      NY has very strict emissions testing so I'm not sure if deleting the DPF would cause it to fail testing. I haven't heard of a carbon buildup issue with the 535d like there is/was with the 335d. I know my X5 35d has a low pressure EGR and a high pressure EGR where the 335d only has a low pressure EGR. I'm not sure if the 535d has both but I know the owner of this one hasn't had any issues.

    Apologies for the formatting - looks like TH-cam really wanted to make a mess of it... I've got a 2014 535d that I just bought about 2 months ago with 50,000 miles on it and have a couple of comments:- liked the video, all though I'm curious about the low tire warning - not too sure I'd be driving in a sporting manner with that on the display >;- that car is quite far from well equipped, mine has:> lane departure (I know, I'm not a fan of it either...);> blind spot monitor - does not work anywhere near as good as the one in my former car (now my wife's, 2013 Lexus ES350) and I don't trust it 100%;> front side cameras (very nice for coming out into pedestrian traffic when exiting some parking garages, or even when pulling out of some shopping mall parking spots when the huge suvs are all around you;> Bang & Olufsen sound system - absolutely fantastic! Blows away the Mark Levinson in the Lexus - absolutely worth the money - when I first got it, I questioned the value, but the more I listen to it, the more detailed and amazing it sounds, especially with media off the built in hdd;> HUD - heads up display - very close to one of my favourite features. In addition to speed, next turn with required lane; next song/station; incoming phone call; warnings/alerts such as traffic or near freezing temps and more, are displayed here. Even find myself having to consciously think about looking at the speedometer when driving any other car like my wife's Lexus;> Navigation Pro with ARTTI services - the navigation is nice and the traffic warnings work well - was just alerted the other day with a triangle warning on the screen as well as in the HUD about a car fire on the highway;> comfort seats - absolutely amazing! at first, they look very similar to what was in the car you show, however, a couple of immediate differences:--------- electrically extendable thigh support;--------- electrically adjustable headrest height positioning;--------- the part I love the most, mid height seat back articulation - not only does the entire seat back recline and come forward, but you can also adjust the top half of the seat to recline or come forward - cradling the shoulders just that much nicer - really puts all other seats to shame;> adaptive LED headlights - amazing!;Couple of nice touches:> when programming a destination in the nav, if you have enough fuel in the tank, a white dot appears on the fuel remaining display below the speedometer, indicating how much fuel will be needed for the trip, kinda neat...;> the center vents below the nav screen have a nice temp adjust wheel that lets you have the car at one temp, but say you wanted cooler air on your face, dial towards blue...;> call concierge from car and they can send nav instructions directly to the car. I've used this when the nav can't find something because the address doesn't jive - the concierge can search it online and upload to my car which automatically fires up the nav and sends me on my way;> picture at destination - enter a destination and click to see google street view of that spot - have amazed friends that recently moved to Elliot Lake, ON and I was able to show them their house from in the car;> online search from idrive - want to find a steakhouse near you? Search from the car and read Yelp! reviews. Call the place or accept as destination directly from the main display;> the above car data/communications items are all operational with a subscription through BMW (think I paid $200DCN for the year) and works throughout Canada/USA with no additional roaming charges - ie: my mobile phone is not required for that to work;> carbon black exterior paint is amazing - you need to see it in different types of light. car can look blue, black or even purple! depending on the light and angle you are looking at it from. I even had to question my sales guy as to whether or not it was the same car when I went back for the 2nd test drive;I'm pretty sure I'm missing some other stuff, and there is stuff that my car doesn't have:> rear seat climate control - mine has heated seats, but not the climate control;> adaptive cruise control - have it on the Lexus and kind of miss it, but I can get by with the standard config;> night vision - drove a 7 with this and just don't think it's implemented the way I would like to see it (ie: takes over the nav screen when active, meaning that you need to take focus off the road to view and nothing else can be on the screen when that is functioning);> probably something else I'm missing....All in all, it is a fun car to drive - a bit heavy steering and more luxury than sport, but I drive 50,000miles (80,000 km as I'm in Canada) per year. The fuel economy is great and I have seen an average of 6.8 l/100km (34.6USmpg) during my regular commute (120km (75 miles) each way at about 125 km/h (78 mph) - I have seen a best of 6.1 l/100km (38.6USmpg) during a recent trip to NYC. I'm thinking I can easily break into the 5's with summer fuel and driving. Now, for the reliability, glad your friend's car has been trouble free - largely... So far, I've had pre and post cat sensors go ($1000 CDN each) due to "incorrect exhaust fluid - restart not possible in 200 miles" when we were leaving NYC. Quite the ordeal but we were able to drive the car all the way back to Kitchener, Ontario, Canada and leave it with my dealer to sort out. If I would have shut the car down when the counter got to 0 (somewhere around Binghamton, NY), we would not have been able to restart the car. Lucky for me, the car is under CPO warranty until 160,000kms (100,000 miles). They also replaced the low pressure fuel pump that is under the rear seat when my car was in as it was "noisy", according to the mechanic.I received the service history on my car prior to my ownership and this is what it shows:- one of the cat sensors was already replaced;- both front cameras and cables have been replaced;- other minor issues (unfortunately don't have the paperwork with me);All in all, a fun car that I'm hoping will serve me well for a number of years.

      The timing chain is at the back of the engine and is not a serviceable part. The engine needs to be removed to change the chain if it fails. If the chain fails while in use it's a new engine. I had 3lt 530d and it done 130,000 miles with no issues at all I bought it with 63,000 on the clock.

      I think we are talking about two different issues. 1) the timing chain is made for the life of the engine. The end.....Look it up. 2) Bmw has had issues with timing chain failures on the 2lt D (e90/91 e60/61) and has changed and modified the tentioners for the timing chain from 2011 onwards. Bmw never took responsibility for the design failure as it only effected 1 in 500 cars with this engine. Look it up.

      3.0 Six-cylinder twin-turbo In Europe there's a M550d which is the same engine but tri-turbo. The new one has quad-turbos. 😉

    That´s not a 535d, thats a 530d. First, you have the exauste and second 313hp in a 353d and 245hp for a 530d. You should learn...

      It literally says 535d on the back (not sure how you missed that) and the US-spec 535d is the same as the Euro-spec 530d. There is no 530d in North America where this was filmed.

      You should learn..... the US have different emission testing compared to here in the U.K.. that IS a 535d in the USA market but here in the U.K. it’s a 330d

    Pretty good info but it’s cringy to watch you romp over and over on someone else’s awd car from corners... especially in a high torque car like that. The last 2 minutes of the video let me know what I wanted to know, the rest was just you in gym wear making faces as you romp on someone else’s car

    1st of all this ain't the 535d you're a liar. It's the 530d the 535d has 306 bhp not 255bhp and the 0-60 time is around 5.5 seconds not 5.9 seconds.

      USA badges it as 535d. That’s the only version available in America. USA 535d = UK 530d
