    Thanks for this tip. It's been a game changer for my forehand. Also important emphasizing is keeping the elbow AWAY from the trunk on the forward swing. Love it!

    Tom how do I lead with the elbow and create muscle memory doing both?

    Hi Tom,
    Taylor Fritz forehand is a great example of leading the turn with the elbow, isn’t it?

    Thanks Tom...how about Sampras?

    Hi Tom ! I don"t think there's a relation between elbow high and racquet face closed. Racquet face closed depends more on the grip and the wrist position ; wrist flexion => racquet closed. Elbow high helps having a large swing and large swings help for precision and smoothness. All the best.

      Yes I see your point... but if someone has close to an eastern grip high elbow helps... it even helps on crushing shoulder high forehands around the service line for players with semi-western!
      To your tennis success,
      Tom

    What forehand grip do you use and why?

    • @Fundamentalsoftennis
      @Fundamentalsoftennis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use all 3, semi-western for more spin and short angles... eastern for a flatter ball and depth... continental for slice and drop shots.
      To your tennis success,
      Tom

    My arm tends to stop when swinging threw the ball its as if I have no control over my arm when trying to play the stroke .

    • @Fundamentalsoftennis
      @Fundamentalsoftennis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're trying to control the shot TOO MUCH... you must follow through to develop as a player... don't worry about the RESULT... FINISH the stroke with the racquet over your left shoulder assuming you're right handed!!
      To your tennis success,
      Tom

    What about the elbow position on the forward swing? When I use elbow away from the body straight arm I generate less pace on the ball than elbow closer in. Why is the reason for pace deficiency?

    • @beaglesrfun5896
      @beaglesrfun5896 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe you're not using the kinetic chain?

    • @jlook6070
      @jlook6070 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@beaglesrfun5896 Good point, that could be the reason in a roundabout way. My stance is solid and the kinetic chain is fully utilized for the bent elbow method. I guess extending my elbow out to do more straight arm relies more on centripetal force and loses the kinetic chain efficiency a little. Then in that case it would be interesting to see a scientific study on the elbow angle effects on outgoing velocity. Though some pros can do straight arm with full kinetic chain efficiency too. Good catch, thank you Beagles.

      Djokovic, Murray use elbow in closer... Nadal and Federer straight arm, all 4 obviously great success... both ways highly effective, personal preference... but kinetic chain is a good call by Beagles use the entire body not just the arm.
      To your tennis success,
      Tom

      @@Fundamentalsoftennis That is true, you do lose lag and kinetic chain as you go straighter. How do the pros do straight arm while doing the ATP forehand? I find the WTA elbow angle in far better as an option personally.
