Finally the Feelgoods make it to reactions! Saw them in 81. Still the best gig I've ever seen. Without this band there would be no punk.

I so enjoyed that performance by Canvey islands finest! They were such a good live band and Wilko's guitar style was unique, great lads who loved their blues/rock, as always many thanks for reacting ❤

Wilco (lead) had a unique style, playing both Lead / rythym together.
Rip Wilco and Lee the singer.

And also John 'Big Figure' Martin, the drummer, sadly. Dr Feelgood were also unique in that all original members were called John. True. Look it up.

Wilko took his playing style from Mick Green from Johnny Kidd and the Pirates. They became good friends and co-wrote 'Back in the Night' together.

Dr Feelgood once again belting out their music like there's no tomorrow and their lives depend on it - at the same time demonstrating there's no need for an expensive, fancy stage setup complete with lasers and pyrotechnics to send an audience home with a memory that'll last a lifetime. Just wow!

  • @BackToTheBlues
    @BackToTheBlues ปีที่แล้ว +2

Back when they started, long hair, flared jeans and standing around was still the order of the day for musicians. Dr Feelgood were rebelling against that - in a way, they were the precursor to the punk music movement in Britain.
Their act was about energy, action and aggression, hence the stiffness - you had the idea that they might just come off the stage and start a fight if they felt like it. They looked like dodgy geezers; the drummer, Big Figure, even looked like he could be the musician brother of Norman Stanley Fletcher (and if you don't know that character, Google him).
Wilko comprised about 90% speed back then, and would whiz about the stage like a madman during his solos (a style he developed from a move a guitarist in the MC5 made when he saw them at The London Rock and Roll Show at Wembley Stadium in 1972). That little stage he was confined to would've been driving him mad!

The reason Wilco and Sparko go backwards and forwards in a straight line is because they used to practice in a corridor. He's right about the drummer. Nice to see somebody on the other side of the pond enjoying Dr Feelgood.

Like often,a "new" musical direction is adopted because some people got fed up with what's going on.Here,it's prog rock, disco and pop for rich kids.So ,it was back to basics and back to roots.Fifties r'n'r/r'n'b .
You see them on TV,like a nice band ,a little bit stiff.
But in 75,it was an earthquake.
Two years, they got two years. After they became an ordinary band.
Because ,at the end of 76,punk arrived.

Nother great choice and reaction guys.
Yeah...good old Dr. Feelgood. As you say...Great 'pub rock'...true rhythm & blues meets punk...before punk took off.
No Dr. Feelgood...no Jam. This being around 1975 i think(?)The Jam's first album 'In The City' (In '77) heavily influenced by Dr. Feelgood's sound. Weller kinda combined the scratchy guitar sound of Wilko Johnson and Lee Brilleaux's caustic vocals.
Both guys now gone unfortunately...but what an inspiration. Was lucky to have seen them both play in Belfast here...in the 80s and 90s...and Wilko a number of years back.

But if you to check them out in a laerger venue , then have a look at "Doctor Feelgood 15 minutes of Magic at the Kersall " Tis the Pier at South End it is a great in sight to what they were like live ! The singer "Lee Brilleaux "also plays slide guitar and harmonica .
