    Thank you very much.
    This was video number one in my "learning to use Zoom to teach" video tour.
    I teach about 40 students (in person) per class all day long, and am looking to enable myself to teach online, too.
    Thank you again.

      @@CharliesLessons Yes, 40 per class, and that's in a public middle school.
      I am sure I will continue to enjoy your videos and benefit from them, too.

      I was going to ask if you worked in a public school. With that number of students, you must use breakout rooms a lot!!

    • @staninjapan07
      @staninjapan07 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CharliesLessons I don't know what a breakout room is. Assuming that is a room into which only some of the students go, then no. 40 students start and finish in the same room. Here the students sit in columns, usually six of them. There are 6-7 kids in a column. When I want inter-team or intra-team activities, I ask them to move their desks so that they face one another. Other than that, they remain in their respective columns all through the lesson. It poses significant challenges to the usual ESL orthodoxy, to put it mildly.
      As this country follows its own ideals for English classes, and not the ideals asserted by ESL professionals, this is what everyone is used to.
      I can tell you, though, that once you are used to it, and once you know how to play the system to i(and the kids') advantage, it is not as insurmountable a problem as it may appear.
      If the teacher loves this work, and understands what a privilege it is to have so many minds focused one person as I do, then it can be positively rewarding...and some days just a pile of steaming sh1t!
      40 kids laughing at your jokes and trying to do what you require of them is Heavenly, though 40 kids looking like they want to sleep or die... not so much.

    • @CharliesLessons
      @CharliesLessons  ปีที่แล้ว

      So the students are not connecting online then? The students are in a physical classroom and YOU are the one online? Sounds like a hybrid classroom.
      I can imagine the skills you've learned in overcoming this obstacle will serve you well in the future, I'd put it on your CV for sure!

    Hi! Do you use Slide presentations? Also, how do you make individual whiteboards? Do you have them prepared before class and distribute it as pictures for ss to individually work on themm?

    • @CharliesLessons
      @CharliesLessons  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I will often use Google Slides if I can't find the right material elsewhere. I assume you mean individual whiteboards on Zoom, if you have a premium account you can make multiple whiteboards but with a basic account you can only make a maximum of 3, so it's not viable. Your idea of making them as PDFs or PNGs, works better as it means you can make lots of them. I would share them with individuals or for groups, it depends on the type of task.

    Thanks for the informative video! Are students working collaboratively and you write the answers for the Stop the Bus game? Or do all students work on a separate whiteboard ?

    • @CharliesLessons
      @CharliesLessons  ปีที่แล้ว

      For the Stop the Bus game, the teacher usually controls the whiteboad. But for future games you could allow the students access to the whiteboard and let them lead the game.

      Hey Avigail, firstly, if you have a basic Zoom account you won't be able to make more than 3 whiteboards at a time. So if you have more than 3 students, you could have some problems there! But when you create a new whiteboard there should be a blue share button in the top right hand corner. You can add their email address or if you've set it to edit, you can copy the link and send that to the student too.

    • @CharliesLessons
      @CharliesLessons  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This must be because the Zoom whiteboard is launched within the browser. Try reducing the number of tabs open and/or deleting cache.
