    I remember buying 10 year old used cars in the 80's and they were junk. Since then I've only owned two new vehicles I've driven for over 15 years each. Now it's time for something new and the choice is a new car full of high tech crap or risk something old just about to turn into a money pit (I'm just a little jaded about buying used cars). Thank you NHTSA and EPA!

      I'm no mechanic but I went with an 07 Camry manual transmission for 3 grand. Turns out it's the year they were massive oil burners. But being a Toyota its still running great and idles like a dream after I drove it 50k miles now at 230k and still passes smog in California amazingly. Don't be intimidated just do a little research and you'll be much better off buying used off somewhere than the stealership.

      My mum used to buy my brother in law's used company car every two years from new. She'd then give them to me as a teenager. At four years old, they were rust buckets with parts literally falling off. Oh, I do miss the 80s......not.

    I bought my crv in 2013 from Silko Honda in Raynham Ma. The dealer gives a lifetime warranty on the drive train. I have 99K and have never had any problem. If I need to have any work done on the drive train, I only have to pay $100 deductible. I just have to prove I had the schedule maintenance done. (I have all the receipts) I never had to return to the dealer for a drive train repair. My crv feels like the day I drove it off the lot 11 years ago.

    I have a 2021 GX 460 with 35k miles. We don’t drive a lot so the poor city MPG doesn’t bother me too much. On the highway at 70 mph it typically gets 22 to 22.5. We bought it used and saved the initial massive depreciation. This GX will be around long after I’m gone and I expect my much younger wife will get decades of useful life. I bought it bc it was a V8 and I didn’t want the new engine with a turbo.

I bought used bc I’m tired of taking big hits on depreciation. I bought a Landcruiser in 1994 that is still on the road in good shape with the 2nd owner I sold it to in 1998. Anyway I’ve owned many high line cars that I would never buy again. MB tops that list and I’ve owned at least 15 of them but no more. IMHO Toyota/Lexus is the only way to go but I’d wait a few years on buying the new smaller engine with a turbo until they prove themselves.

    Biggest issue with older Honda trannys is they had ma mesh screen filters in the tranny, they thought it was a good idea to capture any debris, but they didn't think of the filters getting clogged and choking tranny causing over heating.

      Check the screens, replace the exterior filter and change (no flush) the fluid every 30,000 miles and the transmission is reliable. Is there a particular reason why not all engines are non interference engines? It seems kind of like a scumbag thing to do. Put a rubber belt on a car that if/when it breaks your car goes kaboom

    • @davedave9552

    I had a 2004 Lexus GX470. It was a pretty good vehicle… and yes it was a gas hog (All Wheel Drive). Silver paint faded; window/door seals and leather seats were falling apart. Changed the timing belt every 100k miles. Around 265k miles, it developed major leaks where the drive shafts come out of the transfer case. Couldn’t find an independent mechanic who wanted to tackle the job. They all recommended that I take it to our local Lexus dealshipship for repairs. Lexus wanted $7,000 to replace the transfer case with a rebuilt unit. I wound up walking out the door with a check for $2,000 and said goodby to the Lexus GX470. Just didn’t want to pay for a major repair on a 20 year-old vehicle. I thought there would be more major problems to come.

    The only problem with that car is you can’t get standard. I know I have a 2013. I have no trouble with it but I tried to get someone to put a standard transmission. I could buy the transmission from England. I offered a guy here in the states $8000 to convert it he wouldn’t do it. He doesn’t want to touch, the harness and the computer involved he said this is supposed to be an automatic leave it that way does it piss me off you bet I got thousands in, rims lowering kits tires suspension parts

    This is one area where I'm not sure there's any advantage to buying the Lexus over the Toyota. Especially when you get to the Lexus LX/Land Cruiser comparison. Now the Lexus ES does have a much better interior vs the Camry but when it comes to the SUVs it seems like a lot of people buy the Lexus just for a status symbol.

    • @The.Machiiine
      @The.Machiiine 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      China is the largest car market in the world and also dominate the EV manufacturing (in volume); their auto industry will definitely be around. There are many Chinese car companies, many backed with sloppy state subsidies, several major brands (BYD, DongFeng, FAW, etc…), and some have domestic mergers with western brands, such as Mercedes & GM.
      There are many Chinese brands, particularly EVs, that have made inroads in Europe and other parts of the world (Australia, S.America), but it will be a decade or more for them to grab a foothold in N.America, unless they build factories here.
      Much of their market share is due to low prices , including dumping (illegal, below-cost pricing).
      Japanese engineering & manufacturing quality and reliability is the best in the world. Their culture is one of great precision, attention to detail and craftsmanship. They may lose some market share in the low end market eventually, but in my opinion, it would take China a while before they can establish brand recognition or trustworthy build quality, on a par with Japan. Similar to when Hyundai first landed in North America with the rusty, low cost Pony. Decades later, the Koreans (Kia and Hyundai) offer full lineups of cars, EVs, and class-leading SUVs, leading edge design, and a competitive luxury brand, Genesis.

      I paid 12k for my 06 4runner with a v8 same engine, same everything just not as luxurious. It had 198k. It's currently got 230k. I've owned it for 4 years. It's a very good car. I've only done simple maintenance. Like suspension and oil changes, coolant flush. At 250 I'm going to do a water pump/ timing belt and put a new radiator in it. I've maybe dropped like 3k in it in total since I've owned it. So 15k for a reliable car that's safe and well structured. I'll take it.
